Bitcoin and relationships are not incompatible

I keep seeing posts or comments on this sub about how people don't tell their wife or long term partner about their holdings at all or dramatically understate them. Or also draining their joint future savings and putting it all in crypto without discussion. This is what gambling addiction looks like, you should not have to hide it. Money, including bitcoin, is ultimately an ends to a means, so your strategy should be in line with your partner for your hopes, aspirations and goals. So don't blow up a good relationship because you believe in crypto, you can have both if you just communicate. Submitted December 31, 2023 at 11:05PM by leo_the_lion6 https://ift.tt/gdnTcDp

You don't own Bitcoin

As an OG hodler who has been mining since you could do it on a Pentium 4 desktop, with all the sincerity in my heart, OG's - SHUT UP. The entire ethos of bitcoin is that anyone can do what they want with their property. If noobs are excited about what bitcoin ETF's can do for this space, it's none of your business. All this growling about it is just out of order. You don't own Bitcoin Network. You are not special. Knock off the self-righteous criticism and dooming. If bitcoin is what we say it is, it won't matter anyway. Submitted December 30, 2023 at 10:26PM by PepeDeCorozal https://ift.tt/GseuaQl

Gold is slow to transport and that is why after invention of telegraph in 1860, paper money defeated Gold

I learned this by reading excerpts of Lyn Alden's new book Broken Money . This is the only time in history where, on a global scale, a weaker money won out in terms of adoption over a harder money. And it occurred because telecommunication systems introduced speed as a new variable into the competition. Gold, with its inherently slow speed of transport and authentication, couldn’t compete with the pound, the dollar, and other top fiat currencies with their combination of speed and convenience, despite gold being in scarcer supply. The combination of legal tender laws, taxation authority, and greater speed has allowed fiat currencies to outcompete their slower but scarcer precious metal counterparts all over the world in terms of usage. This mismatch or gap in speed has been a foundational reason for the greater and greater levels of financialization that the world has seen over the past century and a half. Monetary ledgers became increasingly detached from any sort of natural co

Do you know anyone else that owns Bitcoin?

I literally don’t know of anyone else that owns Bitcoin.. none of my family or friends do. There’s a guy at my gym who says he has a small amount.. and that it. Now I know some of you are probably extremely paranoid and don’t talk about it in public for fear of a $5 wrench attack, but I think just casually talking about BTC and not saying how much you own if any, shouldn’t stop from hearing about other possible owners.. just seems weird that there aren’t more and more people talking about it.. I’m in the US btw.. Submitted December 25, 2023 at 09:39PM by Physical-State3960 https://ift.tt/OzjWdLA

Two sides of the Bitcoin

Heads: My 69 year old Father-in-Law recently asked me if I had any of “The Bitcoins”. Of course I told him that I do have actual Bitcoin as well as exposure to Bitcoin in my IRA. He watches Jim Cramer on CNBC but said he hasn’t heard him talk about positively about Bitcoin. I gave him a few high-level reasons as to why I believe it is a solid but still volatile investment. He was very receptive to how I explained Bitcoin to him. I also explained to him about the potential of Spot Bitcoin funds in January, 2024. The next day he asked what stocks he could invest in that would give him Bitcoin exposure. I gave him a few suggestions for research since he wanted to do this through his Charles Schwab account. A few hours later he said he was “in” and is still interested in the Spot ETFs. Tails: I gave my 8 year old Grandson a “gold” (made of aluminum) Bitcoin token as a gift. He thinks it is cool. He has heard of Bitcoin at school. I explained to him that the physical coin isn’t wort

Fiat and crypto is a perpetual rug pull. Bitcoin is the exit.

Greed is part of human nature and everyone who is in charge of a monetary system can't help themselves and will sooner or later rug pull it's users. In crypto this happens on a smaller scale but it's more rapid, blatant and obvious, in fiat it happens on a large scale, a slower more subtle multigenerational rug pull. The long term outcome is the same. It doesn't matter how late you are to Bitcoin it will always make sense to buy it if you can avoid becoming a victim of rug pulls. This is true today, true 10 years from now and true 100 years from now. As long as the blockchain works without interruption it will make sense to use it as an exit. Stocks and real estate are a good alternative as an exit strategy but stocks are subject to geopolitical and economic risks and real estate requires active management and expertise if you want to beat inflation. Bitcoin should be the logical choice for many people. Submitted December 24, 2023 at 04:07PM by bitcorner22 http

Are there any current methods to borrow against BTC / use BTC as collateral at the moment?

Uk based, but generally here it’s often said that when someone has accumulated enough BTC instead of spending it on,say, a house, we could borrow against it, so that we would still benefit from any further appreciation on the BTC… in reality are there any methods or companies where this could be implemented right now or in the short term future?? No Intrinsic Value

I think one of the laziest arguments against Bitcoin is the 'no intrinsic value' statement. Ive been bickering with GPT over three glasses of wine to better understand the lens through which people make this argument. My end take away is that anyone making this statement has no idea what they are talking about, and are simply puppeting a type of corporate buzzword speak. Outside of the financial world I first learned of extrinsically motivated people to focus on external rewards (such as money), and intrinsically motivated people to be more value based (such as volunteering at a soup kitchen). I'll stop there, but anyone care to represent Bitcoins lack of intrinsic value? Arguing for fun here. Submitted December 23, 2023 at 05:18AM by MrFatwa https://ift.tt/xuwVCFd

Look at how scarce Bitcoin is and its about to get even more scarce in 2024!

As of today, it looks like there are only 1,822,809.97 bitcoins remaining on exchanges. The rest are stored in cold storage. These are typically people who are not thinking of selling in the short to medium term. Some are on exchanges but are lost forever. Some are on exchanges but owned by Spot ETF's like Fidelity (Yes Spot ETFs because they are already approved in Canada. Just one of Fidelity's spot ETF holds 3223.4255 bitcoins on exchanges.) now consider all the people that DCA'ing all over the world everyday in small amounts. This means each day 1000's of bitcoins are being bought up and that overall Bitcoin on exchange number is potentially reducing as a portion of these people move to cold storage periodically. Now consider when Spot ETF's in the USA get's approved and the halving happens. 100k/Bitcoin is just the tip of the iceberg and as they say, holding even .01 BTC (1,000,000 SATS) is going to be significant. Bitcoin is not even 1 Trillion in

There are 60 million millionaires in the world, and every single one of them has a store of value problem.

There are 60 million millionaires in the world, and every single one of them has a store of value problem. And so does everyone else in the world. The cost to ship a sizable amount of gold internationally costs hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars. Even if you just buy hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gold domestically and bring it home, you're paying a spot markup of thousands of dollars. The cost to close a luxury mansion real estate deal (which many wealthy people just own and leave empty as a store of value) can be hundreds of thousands of dollars or more, and then depending on their jurisdiction they pay hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in property taxes on it. An international wire transfer often costs like $30 and takes days and is entirely permissioned/centralized/credit-based. Credit card fees are like 3%. The global banking industry generates hundreds of billions of dollars in fees per year even though it's all centralized. Bitcoin is a d

Financial planning/advice subreddits are the saddest places

You see people celebrating buying multi-year CDs with 5% APY. So much wasted opportunity. They have no idea what inflation is or what it does to the average person. Yet these subreddits are all extremely hostile to Bitcoin. It's truly depressing. Edit: I keep seeing a lot of "risk tolerance" explanations in the comments. This is silly. Bitcoin is volatile, but not risky. It's not about your risk tolerance, it's about your ability to self custody properly. Trusting your money with custodians is risky, bitcoin is not. PSA: Do not make many transactions directly to your wallet

I posted something earlier and it seems like there some people that have made this mistake. If you DCA into BTC and for example, have 1000 transactions into your wallet instead of 10. Selling all that Bitcoin will be more expensive than selling the Bitcoin you bought with 10 total transactions. In essence, the more you use the network the more you pay for it. I’m sure there are some people here that can explain it much more in detail than I can. I work around to this is to buy on an exchange for a few weeks, then move the BTC to your wallet instead of instantly moving to your wallet after buying. I know there are a lot of new people here learning about Bitcoin and exploring for the first time so I hope this info helps you as much as it did me. Hope this helps, and anyone who wants to add to this is more than welcome. Submitted December 12, 2023 at 08:40PM by Competitive-Can-2484 https://ift.tt/kEtjVpY

Been buying bitcoin every month for 75 months

The goal is 1 million euro bitcoin stack, stacked one month at a time, currently 6 years in, I'm pretty sure I don't need another 6 months to get there! I call this the bitcoin retirement plan, since the monthly amounts are in the same ball park that me and my employer needs to put in the government Ponzi plan (actually government Ponzi is more expensive). The main difference being, bitcoin plan will actually give me retirement and in a timely fashion whereas the government Ponzi will only promise me retirement but actually never give one. Why is Bitcoin so hard for most people to understand?

The first time I heard and researched bitcoin in 2017 I immediately understand that bitcoin is the best currency the world has ever seen I am 49 years old and during the nineties my country located in Southeastern Europe experienced hyperinflation. My life experience with hyperinflation helped me understand bitcoin right away With fiat currencies, due to excessive printing, there is the possibility of galloping hyperinflation caused by excessive printing of money, as the name itself suggests, it is inflation that develops rapidly, progressively, and which, even in the face of energetic attempts to contain it, ends in a complete disaster of the fiat monetary system. Therefore, fiat money is not suitable and very risky for saving Banks go bankrupt and fiat currencies devalue Save fiat and keep money in the bank only as much as you are willing to lose Bitcoin is a lifeboat Bitcoin is the first currency in the world that reliably scarce than gold and more private and transactionally

How much of your net monthly income are you DCAing into bitcoin?

How many people sold at bottom?

I recall last year when my heart dropped when seeing btc at 15-16k. That was when I just accepted that I might lose it all (put life savings into it around 45k). I never had a high loss tolerance but the constant dips made me numb to it. I managed to average down a bit and just kept holding and tried to focus on other things and stop checking my phone without getting depressed each time. Fast forward today and I am almost at a breakeven on my portfolio after seeing it down 80% at one point. My question to everyone here is how many of you sold and panic sold ? As someone who has been DCA through most 2022 and 2023, seeing BTC at 43k feels unreal

2022 was really hard, i worked so much to be able to DCA. There was so much FUD,exchange bankrupcy, depression and negativity. Seeing BTC now at 43k and all around positivity feels like some dream.Even though i know we can still crash 20%+ in short term, after year and half its really nice to see all those sacrifice and hard work to DCA pays off Submitted December 05, 2023 at 10:46PM by neda6117 https://ift.tt/7YQUrP1
