So the other day I was helping a friend learn about bitcoin because he wanted to play online poker. I explained he needed to open a gemini account and link his bank. He was exited. Went through the steps. Then got a notice that the bank account number was wrong. He goes down to the bank and they tell him they don’t put account numbers on outgoing wire transfers. So now he’s out the $100 for 3-5 days while his money sits in banking limbo. Oh and they charged him $30 on top of the $100 so that he has the luxury to have his money frozen for a while. He still can’t get registered with gemini and all he wanted to do was deposit $50 into an online poker site for a little fun. So finally he gives me $100 cash. I give him the bitcoin on his phone standing next to him. Done and done in under 10 seconds. A few minutes later the $100 worth of BTC was worth $102. Frictionless. Easy. Fast. No hassle. No forms to fill out. Etc. Banks and traditional systems are simply archaic by comparison when...

I run a small law practice. I do mostly Estate Planning (wills, trusts, & probate) and Evictions (oddball side of the practice that grew out of the probate side but is now about 35% of my business). At the end of most client meetings I ask: "How do you want to pay me?" Clients will often reply: "What will you take?" I always answer (in a light-hearted way): "I'm a lawyer, I'll take anything...cash, check, card... I'll even take BitCoin." (This gets a chuckle out of most clients). I've been doing this line for years.... never gotten a taker. Years! Today, the client said: "You take bitcoin?" And after printing my public key QR code, client transferred fee via bitcoin. Took about 30 seconds to show up as pending, that was good enough for me. We finished up meeting and client left office. I recently downloaded the software and I have been very impressed so far. It is quite easy to install and setup. Now that localbitcoins.com requires ID, this is the easiest way to buy bitcoin anonymously. It's also much less scammy. Decentralized exchanges are the only way to prevent governments shutdowns and interference. Think BitTorrent for buying and selling Bitcoin. I highly recommend trying out a small order so that you are familiar with how things work. The volume is quite low at the moment so this would help the network grow. Here my experience: Yesterday i placed an order in Bisq: At 9.30am i placed the buy order with a wrong Swift code. My failure.. (Swift instant instead of swift, i didn't knew the difference). After work at 6.30 pm i noticed it. Direct after i created a new buy order with the correct settings, 15 min later i had a new seller. 5 min after accepting the trade, Bisq opened a transaction on blockchain. Both of us had to send security deposit, which was confirmed in minutes. Then i had to send the Fiat to the private account of my trade partner. Nearly 20h later i recieved my bitcoins! If you think about it, most who are currently manipulating will cease doing so for the time being while this investigation is ongoing. While they obviously can't detect everything, you'd think this would scare off at least a solid amount of the bad apples. There isn't a single 'investor' who has ever received a break-even ROI. This is a fact. Everybody who has ever given them money has ended up with less than they gave. If the price shoots up, sure it feels like you're making gains. But the reality is that if you gave any crypto to Genesis, you will only ever get a fraction of your original crypto back. Not even 100% of the initial investment, let alone profit. It is a clear ponzi. This company's operational costs are obviously in fiat. They rent IT spaces in various countries, buy servers and graphics cards and netwoking equipment, pay salaries, advertising, travel, etc. So they're taking all your money in bitcoin and then what? I've been banging my head against this for weeks. I run a small crypto consulting business specializing in mining. I'm not even talking about the near impossible task of calculating your tax liability unless you use just one exchange - just good old fashioned bookkeeping is pretty much impossible if you have any inclination towards accepting raw crypto in your business.. The only accounting software that even supports BTC as a currency directly to begin with is Quickbooks Online - and they round everything to two decimal places. Which essentially rounds every transaction to the nearest $100, and transactions below $50 round down to $0 - so it refuses to accept/import them. Which makes that functionality completely useless. So of course I can manually enter the dollar value of the bitcoin when I receive it - which is multiple times a day in small amounts due to mining. And then when if you want to directly spend it....just forget about it. Its not worth it. You'll never b...

Just thought I'd share what I see as the most important lesson I've learned since I started to get Bitcoin. Its current price is not its value. Price is only temporary and will always adjust to value in the end. You can get a grasp of Bitcoins real value everytime you see news about which new country or organisation is adopting bitcoin. Everytime you see some random sign that says "accepting Bitcoin now". Hell, you can get debit cards by now that you just use like the normal ones and in the background every payment is paid from your wallet instead of your bank account. But most importantly I learned to bother less about how much fiat my coins are worth because getting Bitcoin should be about having Bitcoin to use in the future because for me there is now doubt about it replacing our current money system. It already is. So better be honest to yourself. Do you really trust in Bitcoin and are willing to ignore the price going down because you see its true value? ...

What I discovered was that the value of the dollar relative to the *median* price of gold over the last 225 years has crashed significantly and not recovered twice. *Only* twice. Once was at the beginning of the great depression, and the other was the minute the gold standard was abolished. Note: There was a scenario on a similar scale of the great depression during the Colorado Gold Rush of 1859, but this only applies to gold and I think this is due to peoples' tastes and preferences leaning towards gold. His Bank processed the transaction on the same day and told him that the funds will reach ICICI account in 2-3 days time. 3 Days went past and I called my Business partner and told him to collect SWIFT Transfer status copy from his Bank. On the SWIFT Transfer status copy, I could see that the transfer was successful but my ICICI Bank didn't credit the funds in the account. I'm currently traveling through South America, where credit cards are rarely accepted (only by really high-end restaurants and hotels). I normally take cash out of the ATM and use that, but I screwed up and forgot to take my card back from the ATM so it got eaten. I called the ATM's bank and they said it would take 5 days to get the card back, but I was already on my way to a different country.
