Im not anti-btc, but theres something I dont understand

How could BTC be used as a payment solution in stores when i takes at least 10 minutes for a transaction to confirm? Do you just gotta wait in the store until the payment is confirmed? I'm guessing I'm missing something but please don't hate on me for being stupid.
