In 1970 1oz of gold was 35$. For 35$ you could buy a nice suit and a bicycle. Today 1oz of gold is $1900, still enough to buy a nice suit and a bicycle. 35$ today on the other hand is enough to buy 2 pizzas. 2 pizzas in 2010 would set you back 10,000 BTC, today just 0.0027btc.
