Every talking head complains bitcoin doesnt produce an income or provide a yield. Warren Buffet even saying its worthless because it cant mail him a check. But these same people turn around and say cash is king and you should always have cash in emergencies. They think bitcoin is trying to be some kind new asset or investment. Its not, its replacing cash. In fact cash is trash, bitcoin is the superior form of cash free from inflation. They cant get past this paradigm because bitcoin is volatile against fiat. Inflation is a symptom of a bigger disease called central banking and unfortunately, as I post this, bitcoin is still tied to and valued in fiat currency. So I'm fully invested in BTC and have believed for a while that it's main use is as a store of value specially against inflation. However I had a weird thing happen today as I couldn't buy from an online store (CBD) I've purchased before with my regular visa/Mastercard cards, yet saw the store accepted BTC. Decided to try it out and it worked no problem. It's amazing that with it's vast global network MC could not approve the payment (credit was more than fine) yet BTC network had absolutely no problem. I almost immediately bought some more tasty dips of BTC mind you, but it's quite a simple proof that it's not just a sore of value, or a hedge against inflation, or a way to transfer value internationally. I don't know what is going through Bill Gates' mind, nor do I care too much with regards to Bitcoin. He is only 25 years younger than Warren Buffett, but he is a billionaire and he isn't one of those people that "needs" bitcoin. He has so much money that he could probably find a way send it to North Korea without using bitcoin or cryptocurrency and find a way to conceal it - and if he were to be caught I'm sure he would only get a slap on the wrist. Without lingering on any billionaires in particular, when they reach that status, they have access to financial services that you and I do not. So there's a local deli where I work and I eat at this deli at least twice a week. At their front register, they have a laminated sign that reads "CASH IS KING- we appreciate payment in cash is possible." I've developed a relationship with the manager/owner over time and I asked why they prefer cash payments, and it basically boils down to credit card fees eating away at their profit margin. As the relationship grew, we got to talking about how nobody carries cash anymore and everyone pays with a card or their phone. I asked them if there was a digital way to receive for them to get paid, but had virtually no fees if they would like me to show them how to set it up. They were super interested and I was able to get them set up on lightning. So now, I get to pay for my lunch with BTC on the lightning network. I have been hodling for several years at this point, and have had "not your keys, not your coins" drilled into my head, but have kept my coins on Coinbase the whole time anyway. I even bought a hardware wallet several years ago but was too nervous to actually transfer my coins to it. I figured a big company like Coinbase is probably better at security than I am, so what's the real risk? A post here last week was what finally pushed me over: pointing out that in bankruptcy, Coinbase could (and probably would) liquidate my coins to pay creditors. While I don't think it's likely that my Coinbase vault would get hacked, I do think there is a much bigger chance for Coinbase to do something dumb on the business side and go bankrupt during some particularly bad market volatility. Read that title carefully. 40%. It doesn't even include the dollars printed in 2021, and the first quarter of 2022. People around Reddit are saying "the dollar is getting stronger!!1". No it isn't. It is getting stronger compared to other currencies that haven't stopped the money printing. I don't care who you are or what bridge you are trying to sell me...printing 40+% of all your nations currency in the span of 2 years IS going to have repercussions going forward that we haven't felt yet. The BTC to Dollar exchange rate is being affected by the fact that those who purchased BTC as a speculative asset are moving their money out of BTC back into dollars because they are fearful of a market crash. I know it ain’t much but hear me out. I have been following actively the crypto market for 6 years now (Since I was 18 y/o). The first time I heard about bitcoin I was a 12y/o kid who had just heard about the deep web and how Bitcoin was used to pay for assassinations and drugs and child porn and so on… Fast forwad to 2018 I thought about buying but Bitcoin had already hit 17k (euros) and was at the time at 6 or 7k. I thought to myself “It dropped from 17k to 6k, that’s no good, besides, 7k is still too much”. Then it dropped to 3k and 2k and I kind of lost interest, and now I regret not buying and Hodling at the time. However today I can see why Bitcoin is and will always be the number one cryptocurrency. I bought my first satoshi at 39k, I bought more earlier today at 29k and will continue buying every month and Hodl it for a very long long time. Thank you for reading. It's a silent project that operates in the background. There's no face to it. The founders created it and walked away. It's like an elegant clock set into motion that continues to tick away. There's no promise of some complex protocol to come 3, 5, or 10 years down the road. It does what it's supposed to now without self promotion from the founders. Since it doesn't need self promotion to thrive, it doesn't fall victim to the vices of marketing from greedy, charismatic leaders, with overly complex projects. Sure, there's Saylor and Novogratz that sometimes fall into that role. But bitcoin doesn't need them to survive and won't need them when they die. The project works now. I'm relatively new to bitcoin. Over the past few months I went down a rabbit-hole trying to really understand what money is. That led me to start learning Austrian Economics which I am genuinely fascinated by, especially given the current state of our economy. I've therefore been trying to move away from holding fiat and instead I was look for something, anything, that would keep its value in the coming years. I then happened to stumble across a Michael Saylor podcast where I finally began to appreciate the real value of bitcoin. But what's concerning is I probably wouldn't have appreciated it had I not already been learning Austrian Economics too. Listen , I bought at 69k , and my portfolio is down a lot to say the least . But hear this : Look at us now . We are at 35 thousand per coin. We have proven to the world the value of decentralised money . Look at every other time bitcoin peaked , and then it went down after . This is just the same . Once you're out of fiat, you can spend a small percentage of your bitcoin if you need to. Spending bitcoin is the only way it can be distributed to people around the world and become universal money. If you're an employee, increase your income by improving your skills and climbing up the ladder (either through promotions or applying for new jobs). Fidelity will soon let employees have bitcoin in their 401k . If your employer uses fidelity, consider sending a private email to the 'benefits' team at your company asking them if they'll enable bitcoin support. If people in your company complain bitcoin is bad for the environment, respectfully point out that they are free not to invest in bitcoin, and that a respectful work environment can't have employees trying to control other employees' choices and beliefs.
