Bank of England in big trouble: "The purchases will be carried out on whatever scale is necessary to affect this outcome"

The Bank Of England just committed Billions of Q.E. to Bail out Boomer pensions, in a similar historic moment that inspired Satoshi and the Bitcoin movement.

On the 3rd of January 2009, The Times published a front page article with the heading "Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks". These words were stamped in the Genesis block of the Bitcoin blockchain. While Nakamoto never clearly stated the meaning of the message, many have interpreted it as a reference to why Nakamoto developed Bitcoin: to cut out the banks and middlemen that he saw as corrupt and unreliable, electing to create a more people-driven currency. It transpired the Bank of England provided emergency funding of £61.6bn to crisis hit banks at the height of the financial crisis. On Tuesday night, the yield on any new long-term government borrowing had risen to 5% – the highest level since the global financial crisis of 2008. The rapid upward move in gilt yields had implications for mortgage rates, overdrafts, company loans and pension funds. As a result, the Bank has responded with a temporary and targeted round of quantitative easing (QE) – the bond

Why would any normal person adopt Bitcoin?

Title says it all. I'm very skeptical of the real-world value of cryptocurrency for a number of reasons. From an outsider's perspective, it practically looks like gambling and speculation in the form of "hodling" or whatever you call it. Why would a middle or upper class person in a first world country (aka the largest group of people with the most spending power on a global level) adopt bitcoin over fiat currency? I do see its use for people in countries undergoing political and economic crises, but I don't see widespread use of it beyond that. Is The Bitcoin Standard worth the read?

My understanding is that you read The Bitcoin Standard to understand why Bitcoin matters (as opposed to reading Mastering Bitcoin to learn how it works). As someone who already believes in the Austrian school of economics, I see very clearly the benefits of a system based on Bitcoin as opposed to fiat. Is there anything you think this book could add outside of other more classical sources such as Fredrick Hayek, and Ludwig von Mises? QE restarts in UK

https://www.reuters.com/markets/europe/bank-england-buy-long-dated-bonds-suspends-gilt-sales-2022-09-28/ As one might expect, the first of the big central banks just threw inflation fighting out the window in favor of more printing to prevent their debt from spiraling out of control. It's a clear sign that the fight against inflation is less important than the fight against sovereign default. They always print more, eventually. Weird feeling about the next 2-3 years.

Everything seems weird right now. Feds raising rates, inflation at 9% (higher in reality), political infighting, the US looking at regulating stable coins, war, midterm elections, etc. It seems like the next 2-3 years that include this recession and the halving in 2024 will be a perfect storm. I've recently upped my contributions to $1K/mo (mostly the top two blue chips) and a few metaverse gaming stuff to take a swing at, but I truly feel like we come out of this way ahead. Hang on for a few years. It just feels like something big is going to happen, I don't know. Maybe I drank some bad kool-aid. Either way, this thing is too big to fail now. You have no guarantee that Bitcoin will be a success. On the other hand, you can be sure that the current system is flawed and not fixable. You have to go to a better alternative, and that is Bitcoin.

Some people tell me: You have no guarantee that Bitcoin will be a success. My answer: There is, and that's why we fight every day for the Bitcoin revolution to succeed. We have no guarantees other than those given by the Bitcoin protocol. But the guarantees of the Bitcoin protocol are incredible: There will never be more than 21 million BTC in circulation 10 minutes delay on average between the issuance of each block of transactions An adjustment of the mining difficulty of the Bitcoin network every 2,016 mined blocks A decrease in the reward given to miners for every 210,000 blocks issued A consensus algorithm based on Proof-of-Work Bitcoin is the most secure decentralized network in the world A permanently available network (Uptime > 99.985% since Bitcoin creation) A never hacked network The data of the Bitcoin Blockchain is immutable The Bitcoin code is open source If you follow me, you can see why we Bitcoiners are so excited about the Bitcoin revolution. I have an average buy price of about 50k and listened to everyone who was saying we will never see X price again and 100k btc imminent. Now I feel like an absolute idiot and whenever I see those same people who I listened to now saying that Bitcoin will go to 10k makes it sting even more. I know the common advice people will give is to keep dca and lower your average but I put in my life savings and don’t currently have the room in my budget. Now everyone here is saying that the next bullrun will take another 2-3 years which will feel like an eternity so how can I deal with the depression of being a bag holder? The Fiat Debt Based Monetary System is Close to Paralysis ~ if not Collapse.

The FED has raised the price of debt again as inflation is out of control because they QEed too much for too long. If the FED raises the price of debt much more debtors will mass default and the entire fiat debt based monetary system will collapse. The FED knows this and is bluffing - they know they cannot increase the price of debt by much more before mass defaults will collapse the entire fiat debt slavery monetary system. The fiat debt based monetary system is close to paralysis, if not collapse. Submitted September 22, 2022 at 01:25AM by solomonsatoshi https://ift.tt/OaYFSd4

There is only 2,093k BTC on exchanges, but there is 657k Bitcoin Futures Contracts on exchanges. effectively diluting the supply on exchanges by 31%. I think its these fake IOUs that have caused the number to go down.

source is CoinGlass on the numbers. Eventually they are gonna run out of fake bitcoin IOUs to print up out of thin air. There's only 1,843,794 bitcoin left to be mined and it looks like 657k got sold "pre-mined" (not that kind of pre-mine) via future contracts. Few acutally understand this. I’m a college student and am going to put every dollar of my campus job into BTC

I originally got into BTC when I was 16 in August of 2017. Ended up selling half after the bull run of December 2017 but still held about half of what I had until this past bull run. I haven’t bought any since 2017 or 2018, though. Last year I started a job dishwashing at my university for 16/hr. I ended up getting promoted and a raise to 18/hr last semester. The money I made in the dish room helped me get through the school year. However, this summer I had a job serving, where I made a lot more money, and worked a lot more hours. For this reason, I decided that every dollar I make in the dish room this year is going to go into Bitcoin. Every other Friday, I am going to dump 100% of my paycheck into BTC and hodl until the next bull run. We’re all in this together. Hi guys, I'm Venezuelan living here, like to post this here too because the main subject is Bitcoin! Amount traded here (using LocalBitcoin only) dropped from 38 to 32 BTC this week. Around 8% of the worldwide trade there (408 BTC). Why LocalBitcon? It's the only exchange that post its stats. It is not the most used or popular anymore, that is for sure. People use Binance (king), AirTM, Reserve and others. One BTC is around 160,000 Bs. -Bolivar, our currency- (Missing some zeroes? Government removed by law 6 zeroes last year, third time doing it, first 3 zeroes in 2007 and 5 in 2018, one "current" bolivar would be 100,000,000,000,000 Bs. before 2007). How can this be the next currency replacing fiat for the best hope to financial freedom if all it takes for me is to lose my “keys” forget my password, or die without having any of my family members having access to my holdings. Satoshi Math mistake?

On page 7, where Satoshi shows the Poisson distribution, the probability that the attacker can reach and find a malicious node and reduce the gap by -1. He has the Poisson formula, multiplied by each attacker's progress, where there is a split function. If k <= z, Qz applies where (Z - K), but in that case, wouldn't K be less STRICT than Z ? since if K <= Z, and if K = Z, then (Z-K) = 0, giving rise to the division of a 1, and it would go to the party case below, creating a contradiction, since the one below gives 1 always for K > Z, but the other K = Z also gives 1, and K is not > Z in this case. Shouldn't it be something like, the first case IF K < Z , and the second case be K >= Z ? American in Kazakhstan. Lightning is the way. Context inside. Describing currency debasement, and the trouble with dealing with cash as opposed to electronic payments.

TL;DR - People here mostly use electronic payments, but that doesn't protect the local currency against debasement whenever America turns on money printers or slaps Russia with sanctions. I've been in Kazakhstan for about a month now. If you check the timeline of the exchange rate fluctuation of the Kazakh Tenge (KZT) to the USD, then you see a trend: when sanctions hit Russia -Kazakhstan's largest trading partner- both the rouble and the KZT (as well as some other central Asian / former USSR currencies) dropped in value against the dollar. Speaking to some people here who have family living abroad, if a friend or family member sends an international remittance to Kazakhstan, they would rather let the money sit in their bank account in USD as opposed to KZT because there is at least some volatility. For the first month, I tried using my American debit card to withdraw money from ATMs locally and use it to pay for everything I need everywhere. I've been in Asia for

Stop trying to get businesses to accept bitcoin or accept crypto. 99% of the world is not going to accept bitcoin, 99% of the world is not going to accept shitcoins through binance partnerships, 99% of the world is not going to accept stablecoins. What will most likely happen is lightning will proliferate as a better value transfer protocol than Visa Mastercard and Swift. There will be API services that allow merchants to accept lightning invoices and instantly receive dollars into their business bank account. Banks will plug into lightning APIs allowing their app users to scan and pay lightning invoices using their dollar balance. Businesses and individuals will still use banks but money flows and transactions will happen over lightning instead of through Visa and Mastercard. This is fine because this is how 99% of the world will become bitcoin users without even knowing it, they will be using bitcoin everytime they transact. The fun part of this is that once all merchants are acc

If you control 3.125 BTC worth of UTXOs, you had 50% of a block reward before the halving, and you'll have 100% of a block reward post 2024 halving. 1 BTC = 1 BTC Have a nice day. Submitted September 11, 2022 at 02:44PM by NYKNYb https://ift.tt/H9L1RJn

I am amazed that not a lot of people seem to be talking about Saylors “all in” on bitcoin. The amount of conviction a CEO must have to basically say “go bitcoin or go down” is staggering and pretty much unheard of. Ask EVERY vendor "Do you accept bitcoin?"

I think one of the best things we can do is to simply keep asking merchants and vendors everywhere you go if they accept bitcoin and try to explain simply to the ones curious to ask but don't over do it. If enough people are coming in and asking they'll get curious or will start accepting it. Ive gotten a few vendors to start taking bitcoin by just asking. Less success when your just talking to a worker as the ones ive engaged were owners / managers and they're responses have also been "your the first person to tell me about this" , leading me to make this post. JUST KEEP ASKING tips: Luckily a lot of places use Square and they have links/posts in their PoS (point of sale) system that helps them integrate bitcoin, direct them to explore that. Another quick talking point is on the bitcoin payment rails they wont be charged fees for every credit card swipe and they can receive U.S dollars or Bitcoin its their choice and still avoid the fees. How likely is an indirect US Gov attack on bitcoin via curbing carbon emissions and reducing energy usage? And what are the ways of resisting this attack?

Seems like the propaganda narrative is being constructed to eventually argue against digital assets that use proof of work. So far we have inside and outside the US No nuclear energy Strong push for inferior / less reliable green alternatives Hindered development of fossil fuel sources, and rising energy costs Power shortages, rationing, and blackouts in California Laws with language that positions proof of work as possibly illegal or at least subject to onerous impossible regulation. So it would appear a perfect storm is brewing to make people suffer, cause a lot of anger, and then setup a direction to focus that anger. ie Proof of Work —> bitcoin Even if bitcoin helps power grids stabilize and doesn’t use as much energy as football or Christmas lights, that won’t matter if you’ve rallied the people to be positioned against it. And certainly hash rate can move outside the US, but it would still hinder the market for a long time. And even then, these laws will

Those who know don't talk. Those who talk don't know. Close your mouth, Block off your senses, Blunt your sharpness, Untie your knots, Soften your glare, Settle your dust. bitcoin is the perfect international currency for the multi polar world order

As we all know whether you believe it or not, there are some rumors of a creation of a multi polar world order to replace the currenr uni-polar system. I'm such a decentralized power sharing system between nations, bitcoin is the idea currency as no country would be scared of using another's currency for fear of inflation or being affected by internal crisis of such a country hosting the currency. I strongly believe Russia's acceptance of bitcoin for international trade is geared towards this whole idea as other parties don't need to trust Russia or trust Russia's economy to be able to use it. As things unfold, world powers will have a hold of their areas of influence and respect those of none allies and the multi polar world system might be established and if such a system is, only currencies like bitcoin will be able to facilitate trades between these powers. As long as transaction fees stay ridiculously low that is all that matters. I can send 1,000 to my sportsbook for 3 bucks. With the commercialization and mainstreaming of bitcoin I don't see it going back to where it was, but that's fine. Submitted September 07, 2022 at 06:05AM by d1r03 https://ift.tt/ZPWaT9m

What if the price of BTC continued to plummet during a halving?

I don't think this is likely, just hypothetical. Curious what you guys think. Let's say there's a new world war. And it isn't a thermonuclear mass extinction war. Let's say it's on par with WWII. Maybe nuke a couple cities at the end to finally end the war. I think the price of BTC would plummet in such an event. What if it plummeted so low during a halving that miners could no longer recoup their expenses? I guess a lot of assets would get wrecked during a world war. But is BTC uniquely vulnerable? I used to be worried about 51% attacks years ago, until I learned that the Nodes storing Bitcoin’s blockchain historically have just rejected the miners attacking blocks, no matter how much of the hash rate they had. All they’ve done is create Bitcoin forks. This has happened numerous times before.

It’s funny how people always seem to forget, or haven’t yet learned that the nodes storing Bitcoin’s blockchain would simply reject a miners 51% attack blocks, no matter how much of the hash rate hey had. All they would do is create a fork. One of many. It’s happened many times before. If hashrate actually mattered, then shitcoins would be priced based on their hashrate, and not their network effect and user base. It’s a 3 power system: 1-The nodes that store the blockchain network since its first transaction. 2-The users that use the network, choosing which blockchain has value with their usage of it. 3-The miners that hash it all out. As long as The nodes and the users disagree on the block, then the opposing party just ends up creating a shitcoin. Not every fork is the result of a network update that is rejected, some are from invalid blocks being accepted by miners and nodes who continue to mine and record that shitcoins chain, before usually reorganizing to mine Bitcoin’s

Helping People Down the Broken Money Rabbit Hole

Like many, my interest in bitcoin has led me to learn about the current monetary system and how broken it is. While bitcoin offers hope, I understand that it’s not the right choice for everyone right now due to its volatility. However, it kills me to see well-intentioned people supporting policies with long-term effects counter to what they purportedly support just because they’ve been gaslit by their government and can’t see past the policies’ first-order effects. I’m not the confrontational type and I think that people generally need to figure things out for themselves at their own pace, but I want to help more people see our current system for what it is. I started a small business on exporting rice in my town. It's been several months and everything is going well. All my customers are happy with the service. So to make things a bit more interesting, I've decided to accept Bitcoin as a payment method. Submitted September 02, 2022 at 11:17AM by NavCToken https://ift.tt/bJQgMnP
