I’ve been seeing a lot of people posting about how cool the lntip bot is lately. I love the feature, especially since it is an incredible way to promote quality content on this sub and also exercise the Lightning Network! However, I’m seeing a lot of posts and comments that just scream “give me sats!” I don’t know, am I the only one that is seeing this? For example, I‘ve seen people post about how all of a sudden the lntip feature makes them SO excited to go all in on BTC. Like what!? That’s what did it for you!? I’ve also seen a lot of people ask how the bot works. IMO these types of posts/comments are just attempts to try and get people to throw sats their way. I've been seeing a lot of new people that seem to have no grasp on the basics of economics regarding currency, what gives it value, etc. I posted this as a comment in another thread that didn't get much attention, so I thought I would post it again as its own post to help those who are new to Bitcoin or don't have much understanding of the fundamental value proposition of Bitcoin as a currency. First you need to ask yourself why the Dollar has any value. Learn a bit about the history of money. The first currencies were commodity money. They derived their value from their intrinsic use. But they were cumbersome to use. So we invented paper money that was backed by commodities such as gold, which could be exchanged for it, and gave it value. In 1971 the US Fed stopped allowing Dollars to be exchanged for gold, making our money fiat money with no backing. Fiat means "command". It is created out of nothing by an issuing authority. I was watching one of these random videos from Youtube Shorts, and I came across a video of a very, very rich individual, commenting on how he prefers to use Crypto for very high transactions, like millions of dollars, because bank transfers are an extremely bureaucratic and annoying. The video is very short, it doesn't go long, but it ends with him saying "If I want to make a transaction of 1 Million in the Bank, I will spend weeks signing papers and answering questions. If I want to transfer 1 Million with Bitcoin, I click two buttons, pay a fee of about 50 cents and wait a few minutes”. The video is basically that. August 2020 I started DCAing when btc was around 10k. Minimum wage delivery driver. Put everything onto a hardware wallet. January 2021 holdings already were mind blowing when it hit 25-28k. I discovered Celsius during this time. It doesn't matter if people talk shit about Bitcoin. What matters is that people TALK about Bitcoin. Because whether they talk positively or negatively, Bitcoin will be mentioned and every mention yields awareness. In marketing, this is called a 'brand touch point'. I will give you 500 free sats to then give to others or keep. As you wish. I recently discovered there is a tip bot that you can use in the bitcoin sub (and I think others). The great thing about it is that althought you can get yourself a lightning wallet and then withdraw your tips, or use your own lightning wallet to add sats to your personal tip jar. You don't need to. If someone tips you 500 sats then the bot will automatically set you up with a lightning tip jar on your username and add in 500 sats to it (that's the minimum tip). Then you can use the same command in a message and tip someone else. No need to even set up a wallet! You can use sats all you want just from your own tips, get them and pass them on. As you might know the Lightning network started back in March 2018 and serves as payment-layer to scale the transaction speed of the Bitcoin network and reduce the cost per transaction at the same time. Due to the lack of liquidity it was really hard to actually send payments at the beginning. While it became easier to participate in the network there are still challenges to solve in order to make it accessible for the broader mass. As every week I post this here too. Hi there, as always I post these stats weekly. Last week it was a bit higher, 32 BTC. Still monthly average is around 120 BTC. Years ago it was over 1,000 BTC for weeks! LocalBitcoins is only a reference because they make public their stats. For sure it's not the most used one. Binance is king because their P2P (with Bolivares), AirTM, Reserve and others, sadly they don't make public their numbers. One BTC trades around 250,000 Bs. Exchange rate is around 11.70 Bs. per USD (last week was 9.30 Bs.). This is the official rate, street rate is around 13 Bs. per USD. Not so many zeroes because since 2007, goverment has removed 14 zeroes from the currency. One current Bs. would have been 100,000,000,000,000 "old" Bs. Monthly minimum wage is 130 Bs. so that is around 11 USD at official rate and 10 USD at street rate. Inflation is "only" 140% since January, way lower than before. I had a post before on how to send $10,000+ back to the Philippines fast since my father was in critical condition and they need money ASAP. Traditional wire transfers will take me 8 business days, excluding weekends and some BS verifications, calls, and papers. Someone recommended me Bitcoin and that piqued my interest. Currently use binance, they kinda suck. I tried to swap to strike but they verification department doesn't actually want the company to succeed. Is this the kraken that people use? Is there another app I should look at. I buy sats every Friday and move them to my moon wallet. Thanks for the help.
