The first time I experienced how much more convenient Bitcoin is than a bank.

So, long story short, the wife and I are closing on our house this month. The builder needed x amount wired by monday. We were told this on a Saturday, after visiting the site. Great- banks are closed on the weekend, and the wife works monday. Fortunately, I was off duty that monday- otherwise, I'd have to use sick or vacation leave. The wife was able to leave the office early, and we were both able to wire money to their account by the day's end to satisfy the deadline. The entire time I'm doing this, I am thinking "Dude, if you had a bitcoin address I could just send you the money as soon as you told me." I wouldn't have had to stress about wiring the money in time, taking time off work, or waste time dealing with the bank. After we were done, I was explaining this ordeal to my father and told him "This is exactly why we will have Bitcoin. This is so inconvenient." It kind of clicked for him too at that moment. IBWT! Why does the current AML/KYC system assume everyone is guilty by default?

Literally everyone has to provide documents for amounts above X dollars. Even if there is no tangible evidence that the funds are illicit in any way. Have we come to a time where everyone is assumed guilty unless proven otherwise? This seems like a massive loss of trust to me. Not everyone is a criminal, and not everyone should be treated as such. It also seems like a massive loss of resources as the vast majority of these transactions are legit. Most people are law-abiding citizens, after all. And in spite of these extremely tight controls, billions of dollars are still getting laundered (just check the Danske Bank scandal last year). The criminals will simply use fake ID's and fake personas. Do these controls actually prevent anything or do they just waste a massive amount of time and resources? Storing all those documents in a central location is also a massive security risk with huge implications if the place is hacked. Submitted April 29, 2019 at 08:16PM

Wasabi Wallet just did a CoinJoin - with 92 Participants! (Cross Post)

Hey Wasabikas (& Bitcoincers!), Just thought I would share this with you guys, since it looks like we are all excited about privacy in Bitcoin. Since the recent new release of the Wasabi wallet, the total number of peers that are required for registration is 100, but if more than a couple of hours go by without a CoinJoin, the peers do one anyway. This is quite a big leap from before the update, where Wasabi would wait for 70 peers. So hopefully we will see some big CoinJoins in the next few days, but the biggest one (I have come across) is this beauty right here: https://blockchair.com/bitcoin/transaction/39f791a562f61a9ad19851429f92ffc45ea2ca18a799dea2738215427c5a30c0 This beast of a CoinJoin had an anonymity set of 92(!) for the lowest denomination of ~0.1 BTC, here are the anon sets for higher denominations: ~0.1 BTC = 92 Participants ~0.2 BTC = 29 Participants ~0.4 BTC = 15 Participants ~0.8 BTC = 8 Participants If you spot a Wasabi CoinJoin with better numbers than t

Trust as a currency.... the USA $ is based on trust alone. Nothing else. That trust can fade just like in 2008 when banks halted lending. MATH can never lose trust.

Inflation is a hidden tax. Good money replaces bad money. Don’t you want a currency based on the ultimate trust (math) and agreed upon inflation that decreases till 2140 unless consensus agrees to do a 0.5%. We are in the early days and don’t need to worry about inflation. We get to enjoy the adoption years. Future generations that aren’t born yet will look back on this thread to see how we judged bitcoin in its early days. We relied on math as trust over human judgment (central banks). Limited block size is necessary for the long term security model of Bitcoin.

Limited block size is necessary to build fee pressure and finance POW security after the coin rewards drops to zero or near zero. Why does nobody ever mention this in the context of the big blocks vs small blocks debate ? This is by far the most compelling and obvious argument. Unlimited block size and cheap transactions simply does not work and can never work, there needs to be POW security. Why they never mention this ? Thanks to Dave Bitcoin from walletrecoveryservices for recovering my wallet.

My long forgotten wallet, which I had given up upon to access ever again. For years I had accepted that those bitcoins were lost, forever. Only a small amount of BTC in it, bought at the time for something like 80 euro's per BTC. Than I stumbled on a post where he was mentioned, and I thought, why not give it a try. Mailed him on a Friday evening, got an answer on Saturday, and when he started his magic, it only took a few hours. I received a mail that he had decrypted my wallet! So thanks Dave from https://walletrecoveryservices.com/ and I can recommend him to anyone! Thought it was a nice story to share here! Greetz, and WRITE down your passphrases and passwords! KYC is the equivalent of trying to catch pedophiles by legally requiring a body cam on every single citizen 24/7, "just in case".

The fact that people are not outraged by it tells me everything I need to know about the general attitude, fear, and intelligence (or lack thereof) of the population. We need to catch criminals, but not at the cost of EVERY person's freedom. Bitcoin lets us transact without permission. Don't surrender this right so easily, even if you are doing nothing wrong. Find out how you can help overturn these nonsensical laws. If you really care about Bitcoin, and the success of Bitcoin, and not just here for "FOMO and HODL gains", and actually see the real value of Bitcoin, then it's worth it to try. Who does the FinCEN report to? When were anti-money laundering (AML) laws introduced and why? Is it constitutional to have transactions tracked by personal identification? How can you help bring awareness around KYC and bring an end to financial surveillance? How much crime/terrorism does it actually stop? What are notable cases of money laundering done by large corp

Bitcoin will become the most stable asset known to man

Bitcoin will become the most stable asset known to man because prices are determined by supply and demand, and bitcoin has the most transparent and predictable supply and demand metrics ready to analyse publicly. Demand is known through blockchain analytics, essentially observing and quantifying capital flow metrics on chain. Algorithms will evolve that can give detailed public information about the demand side of bitcoin. Supply is known firstly through the mechanics of the block reward and secondly also through quantifying capital flow metrics on chain. No other asset in human history can provide such detailed and real-time information and insight into supply and demand metrics publicly for the world to analyse at will. Period. Once bitcoin is nearing the end of its free market price discovery phase the stability will start to set in like no other asset on earth ever has. Not stable in fiat (because fiat is in and of itself unstable and therefore no good to measure things agains

the curse of stacking sats and delaying gratification

I have been DCA'ing and HODLing for a couple years now (yes all the way up and all the way down during '17 and '18 no regrets) and I noticed I have changed...I have a really awesome normie job that pays well...but I still can't bring myself to get a better car (current car is 20 years old but still runs fine), better phone, or build a new gaming pc for the 4k era like I have wanted to for over a year now. Every time I look up cars or pc parts all I can think is...do I really need this? I could just stack sats. So that's what I do. I stack fucking sats and live like a hobo(not really) on a near 6fig salary. Instead of buying a new game, I try to learn python. Instead of going out drinking, I play with my LND node and try to learn stuff (usually because I break something), etc. Anyone else can relate? Coinbase holding BTC Hostage for 5 months

I was very happy with coinbase for over a year, but in early December I was notified that my account would be closed, and they would not tell me why. During closure, they allow you to "transfer out" the BTC in your account, but I had over 90% of my BTC transferred into my Coinbase Pro account. I am unable to access Coinbase Pro to transfer the funds back into the regular account. I have over a dozen service tickets that have fizzled out, and customer service is literally just a shield from accountability of people with no access to do anything. Any ideas on if there is anything I can do? Update on BTC scarcity compared to gold.

Current world gold stock is estimated to be 185,000 US tons, the equivalent of 167829177 kilograms. Dividing that with the number of BTC currently mined (17,660,987.5) brings us a ratio of 9.5028195337. This means that owning one BTC is as scarce as owning 9 and a half kilograms of gold. Keeping this in mind we can look at the current price of gold (€36447 per kilogram) and get a "fair price of btc based on its scarcity" of €346,349 The stock-to-flow ratio of BTC will be rather close to gold after the upcoming halving (reference @100trillionUSD on twitter and the Stephan Livera podcast episode 67) so this price prediction seems like a good estimate for the next peak/bubble. I traveled the world on 1 BTC -- and finally finished writing the book!

afternoon all, 6 months ago I wrote a post: "Finished Traveling the World ... on 1 Bitcoin." Well, the comments and questions motivated me to write a book about the journey. I tried to get it up by today -- in honor of World Book Day. The title is a bit cheeky: Stolen Wallets: And Where to Buy Them. I've always been a fan of Harry Potter, right. The titles J.K. Rowling would give. Especially "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." That's the title's inspiration -- though the content is much less P.G. haha. I experienced far too many R-rated scenarios for "Stolen Wallets" to be anything but HBO material. If you enjoy Breaking Bad, it's like that -- with a bit of Terry Pratchett's humor mixed in. Here's the back cover blurb: --------------------------------------------------- What's in your wallet? You okay with a stranger poking through it? I'm not. Never in a million. My wallet is my private little hell. Recei

Stop overpaying fees! I made a website to give better fee estimates. The goal: simpler and more accurate by observing mempool flows.

Hey there! Today I'd like to show you a small project I've been working on: https://bitcoiner.live/ Basically, this is the tool I wish existed, to be able to use it myself quick and easy or to recommend to newcomers when they ask questions about fees. Existing tools are either too complex with too many numbers or have a tendency to overestimate fees. So I built this fee estimator with the following goals: simplicity, the home page goes straight to the point reasonable estimates: to achieve this I developed a custom algorithm that looks both at the current weight and velocity of transactions entering the mempool at different fee brackets (more details in the "how it works" tab). This is unlike some other websites that look at the previous blocks and return the median fee which yields huge overestimations, since one doesn't need to pay the median fee but just the minimum to get included in a block. Of course, no algorithm is perfect and it certainly cannot

Will the next FOMO wave take us to 6 digits?

The context is allready in progress, Venezuela, Iran, Cuba, Mexico, Turkey, but a lot more countries are slowly going to CC since their local currency is inflating to hyper inflating. Right now the market seems to be in a balance, the offered Bitcoins match demand. This is partly thanks to these currencies being allready inflated a lot so available fiat can buy just a little Bitcoin compared to some years ago. But the overall demand is just increasing since more and more currencies will get more inflationary. At some point demand will simply outrun supply. This will make Bitcoin go up again to the point it will become headlines in the news again. Then the next wave of new FOMO kicks in. Besides the countries that are more or less forced to use Bitcoin due to their native fiat inflating away, a lot of other people will be triggered to accumulate. Once this turning point sets in I presume we are in for a surprise. The last down turn has done a good job getting rid of the weak hands.

IMF doesn't give a f* anymore..

"In a cashless world, there would be no lower bound on interest rates. A central bank could reduce the policy rate from, say, 2 percent to minus 4 percent to counter a severe recession. The interest rate cut would transmit to bank deposits, loans, and bonds. Without cash, depositors would have to pay the negative interest rate to keep their money with the bank, making consumption and investment more attractive. This would jolt lending, boost demand, and stimulate the economy." For everyone who has still some brain cells left, this is a good time to buy bitcoin! "Inflation is theft" - old discussion but still very valid

This is from 2012 but still very current. You can hear some very good insights why Bitcoin is safer than what the central banks and governments are doing with fiat currency (and the necessary trust behind the fiat). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJgzx88RgEw " Inflation is theft. " (quote from Ron Paul at 3:18) - A dollar has depreciated approx. -98% in value over 100 years. This means people's savings and pensions has been constantly lowered. Rich people know how to invest and evade inflation, but poor and middle class are the ones paying it. And many did not like the US government's financing of wars with their perceived budget capacity. " I want to legalize competition on currencies... " (quote from Ron Paul at 8:18) - Agred but the competition from Bitcoin and crypto is slowly happening with or without legalization. The time passed gives a good perspective why budget deficits, debt and inflation will make people trust decentralized crypto more and m

The story of my first bitcoin. Hopefully someone will learn from my mistake.

My brother had told me all about this new type of internet money that no one entity controlled, it intrigued me. I had decided to cash in the change I had been collecting for the past year to I buy my first bitcoin at 740 Canadian (Late 2013 I believe). Saw it rise to over 1000 USD then Mt.Gox happened.. Ofc it nose dived, to 200 USD and for about 2 years did nothing. Then it started to go off again and it hit around 1000 USD again.. I decided I would sell out of .7 of it to buy CSGO skins hahaha (digital goods) this was early 2017. I had to watch bitcoin triumphantly rise to 20k thinking what have I done!! I held this thing for years!! Don’t make the same mistake I did. Our previous ATH will be crushed just like every past one. I thought I would never be able to buy another bitcoin but I was blessed with this bear market. I took it as an opportunity to rewrite my past mistake. Hodl strong my friends! Bitcoin is the marshmallow study for adults

The marshmallow study is the longest running human study ever made. Toddlers were given marshmallows and told if they dont eat it in 10 minutes while they're by themselves with the marshmallow, they will be given 2 marshmallows. 90% of toddlers ate the marshmallow and failed. Later in life the 10% who didn't eat the marshmallow had better lives, longer marriages, and financial stability. While the other 90% had the opposite outcomes. Bitcoin is doing the same I see now. Those of us who can resist short term happiness from the money we put in now can let it grow for long term gains. The study found the biggest difference in the kids was the 90% that ate the marshmallow looked at it constantly, causing them to eat it. The 10% who didn't eat it, distracted themselves by looking away from it. So psychologically the answer to their results was to forget about/ignore their short term happiness to be able to make it to the long term gain. So if you want the best odds at doing th

Beware of this scam if you're selling your bitcoin for cash

I'm writing this post while being overwhelmed by what happened to me but I have to warn everybody selling bitcoin for cash against this scam as it could cost you a lot (it cost me 1 bitcoin). I got contacted by someone wanting to buy bitcoin with cash on localbitcoins, we then sent messages on Telegram to make an appointment. One thing you need to know first is that Telegram recently made a change to allow deleting messages on other people's devices, this is relevant to how the scam works. Cutting to the chase: I went to see the guy in a café, he was there with another guy, he handed me the cash and I counted it, then he sent me his bitcoin address on Telegram, I copied the address in my wallet and sent him the 1 btc as promised. I check the transaction on blockchain , it had 1 confirmation at the time but he showed me his phone and there was nothing in his wallet, I check Telegram to check the address again and I realized he deleted the conversation on my device too! so

BTC is better than Danish Banks.

In denmark when you put 10k usd into your account the bank will ask you where you got the money from and you will answer it or they will deny it. If they allow the deposit you will be charged a yearly fee for keeping your money at their place. If later you want to withdraw your own money they will also ask you why you want to withdraw so much money at one time. A friend who buys and sells used cars got so tired of the questions that he told his bank 3 times when withdrawing, that he would spend the money on luxury prostitues in Hamburg (German city). The bank dosent think he is genuine so they are considering throwing him out. The fraud continues - Craig Wright just purposely submitted a provably fake email into evidence in the Kleiman-Wright case

Craig Wright's fraud continues. Yesterday, he submitted into evidence an email he says was from Dave Kleiman to Uyen Nguyen asking her to be a director of his 'bitcoin company' in late 2012 . It is provably fake. Craig didn't realize that the email's PGP signature includes a signing timestamp along with the ID of the key used as metadata. Was the email actually sent in 2012 ? Let's find out! The beginning of the signature is as follows: iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJTH+uQAAoJELiFsXrEW+0bCacH/3K Converted to hex, it's: 89 01 1c 04 01 01 02 00 06 05 02 53 1f eb 90 00 0a 09 10 b8 85 b1 7a c4 5b ed 1b 09 a7 07 ff 72 We know how to find the long ID of the key used and the timestamp of the signature. I've bolded the ID and italicized the timestamp. Looking on the MIT keyserver, we can find the fake* key . The timestamp of the signature is 1394600848, which is March 12, 2014, two weeks before Craig filed to install Uyen as a director of Dave's old company, and

As a result, localbitcoins (based in finland) is now having to enforce KYC checks. To clarify, "a directive is a legal act of the European Union, which requires member states to achieve a particular result..." Most people probably saw this coming but this is only half the story. There is another clause in the directive which specifically calls for the de-anonymization of users engaged with virtual currencies. This means obtaining associated wallet addresses and owner identity. Section 0.9 of the directive states: "The anonymity of virtual currencies allows their potential misuse for criminal purposes. The inclusion of providers engaged in exchange services between virtual currencies and fiat currencies and custodian wallet providers will not entirely address the issue of anonymity attached to virtual currency transactions, as a large part of the virtual cu

(Venezuela) One BTC is 23,000,000 Bolivares (Bs.), last week it was 18,000,000. Minimum monthly wage is around 5 USD. Localbitcoin trades around 1,500 BTC weekly.

Crisis has worsened. Caracas has electricity 24/7, the rest of the country has between 21 and 18h per day. Zulia state only has electricity 6h per day. Monthly minimum wage (Here in Venezuela a lot of people earn minimum wage) is 18,000 Bs. per month (One USD is around 3,500 Bs. fixed by the goverment and 4,500 Bs. street rate) that is like 80,000 satoshis. Dr. Wright could easily prove he’s Satoshi

Just sign a message with the keys that creates the first block. Most people will be convinced. End of story. Some people will still speculate he stole or bought the wallet. But, why sue people when you have a reliable way to prove them wrong? Clearly he’s not Satoshi. Submitted April 13, 2019 at 11:52AM by binarygold http://bit.ly/2P8djxm

BCH and Roger are much worse than BSV keep that in mind!

I know some of you have been following the latests flop from the Craig the fraud and the Calvyn the pedo suing a random user with couple thousands followers on twitter. Although that movement brought the bitcoin community together and showed how powerful we are lets not forget a couple of things: 1- Bcash and their fraudulent marketing on b . Com is still scamming/misleading/tricking millions selling bcash instead of bitcoin to newcommers. Bcash is actually the real cancer. 2- Fakesatoshi might be a fraud yeh, a charlatan and a clown but he has never conducted any sort of scam related to ICOs or Shitcoins. He has always pronounced himself loudly against all of them for being bad actors, its easy now pile on him but don’t forget who drags bitcoin’s popularity/price down. 3- Exchanges like Coinbase Binance (Cz) or Shapeshift joined the action threatening of delisting Bsv... what about the other 99% of shitcoins with proven fake volume, watchtrading and spoofing? What about bcash and

I have received my letter from Craig Wright's legal team, you can see all four pages here: https://twitter.com/PeterMcCormack/status/1116733748794540033 It is pretty much the same as the other letters they have issued. I think it is important and within the public interest to see how they are bullying people for challenging Craig Wright's claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto. By claiming to be Satoshi and pushing a fake version of Bitcoin, I believe this is a fraud and people will be led into investing into the shittest of shitcoins. Fuck Craig Wright, long live Bitcoin! Here is the message for curious: Hello there, mzzntn. Are you still considering bitcoin trading, xxxxxxxxxxxxxx instead of hodling and hoping for the best? my advice is to stay away from manual trading and go automated route. No headaches, everything is automated, and excruciatingly profitable. Manual trading, any trading, be it forex, stocks, cryptos.. is 100% destined to fail . Millions of retail traders get punished everyday, and the only winners are wallstreet & bank traders.. why? because they don't trade manually. Educate yourself on how whales, banks & wallstreet traders actually trade, they are not glued to their screens looking for ridiculous shapes to form on charts.. analytical analysis and manual trading is a BIG HOAX . They use auto-trading tools like this one https://autoprofits(dot)netlify(dot)com/ Actually, that's why Auto trading has a bad reputation and for a good reason to be honest. Wallstreet sharks and bank traders only trade with HFT algori

Bitcoin will have high fees. The block size shouldn't be increased.

We've had this debate for years, and it's cropping up again. I think we need to nip this in the bud now. If you increase the blocksize then you will decrease fees, thus making it easier for Veriblock and Coinbase to spam the network and never bother to optimise their platforms. When VeriBlock temporarily paused their system, confirmed on-chain transactions dropped from ~325,000/day to ~225,000/day. That should give you a sense as to just how much spam is being caused by low fees. If we go to 2MB, those companies will fill blocks up again. Fees will rise to the exact same level in a short period. Now you've got the same situation as before, except a whole lot of full node operators can't keep up with the bandwidth so turn their nodes off. Blocks will propagate through the network slower, centralising mining and providing an unfair advantage to the previous block winner. The final point, which really should shut this whole discussion down, is that we've already b

Bitcoins killer use case is already here.. we just dont realise it yet..

Opening a bank account and opening a brokerage account. Both are a headache. They are tedious, time consuming and tiring. They are like this because the bank or brokerage firm is liable for your actions. Decentalized networks, decentralized exchanges, decentralized market places, decentralized wallets are not liable for your actions nor can they be made to become liable. They are technologically neutral just like the internet, therefore need not impose any friction whatsoever. Bitcoins killer use case is its permissionless nature. Instead of bank branches and passports and forms and files and bometrics and hundreads of pen and paper signatures, now all you need is an app.. Send money globally, trade crypto assets globally, all without anyones permission. That is something that is impossible to compete with. Monthly minimum wage (Here in Venezuela a lot of people earn minimum wage) is 18,000 Bs. per month (One USD is around 3,500 Bs.) that is like 100,000 satoshis. https://coin.dance/volume/localbitcoins/VES/BTC https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-venezuela-cafe-con-leche-index/ AMA Venezuelan living in Venezuela Submitted April 07, 2019 at 06:40PM by WorkingLime http://bit.ly/2UkJ1NT
