QuadrigaCX is bankrupt.

As far as I can tell its all over. They lost the private keys to the coins, and the cash looks to be frozen pending a court order. https://www.quadrigacx.com/ Message from QuadrigaCX Board of Directors January 31, 2019 Dear Customers, An application for creditor protection in accordance with the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) was filed today in the Nova Scotia Supreme Court to allow us the opportunity to address the significant financial issues that have affected our ability to serve our customers. The Court is being asked at a preliminary hearing on Tuesday February 5 to appoint a monitor, Ernst & Young Inc., as an independent third party to oversee these proceedings. For the past weeks, we have worked extensively to address our liquidity issues, which include attempting to locate and secure our very significant cryptocurrency reserves held in cold wallets , and that are required to satisfy customer cryptocurrency balances on deposit, as well as sourcing a

4 years ago today I bought my first BTCs...

that day 4 years ago I purchased my first few Bitcoins. They were about $320 each. Most people said meh why, crypto was weird, stupid scheme and so on. I started digging into this phenomenon step by step and into the startups growing within it. And now look at this. Tons of blockchain companies founded around the globe, millions of people work with it, trade it or implement it somehow. I'm so happy I stick around and I have zero doubts you’ll feel the same in 4 more years. It's wonderful times we're living in. Interesting thing I just heard on CNN a few minutes ago...

How do I add Bitcoin as a payment option for my company

Hi, I am not sure if I am in the right place for this, please direct me to the correct subreddit if this isn’t allowed! I run a travel agency and am interested in implementing Bitcoin as a payment option. With that said, I’m not sure where I need to start and also any legal issues I need to be aware of. Could someone enlighten me if they have a prior experience adding this as a payment option? Would payments be converted to USD automatically or will I have a choice to keep it in btc? A word about LIGHTNING. !AWESOME!

After 3 long weeks i finally set up my Lightning node on RPI and i could not be happier for all the things i learnt in this journey, i read about programming, command lines, bitcoin, lightning and DAMN i realised how little i know about all this amazing world and how much I FKING LOVE IT! But one thing sticked with me... I'm planning to keep learning and spreading the word, the power of lightning is real! I can calmly say that if i managed to make this happen ANYONE (LITERALLY) can do the same for less than 100$ just like I did. I never opened the terminal in Mac before and today im amazed by all the things that little black screen can do. I also should be thanking for all the help i got from the Lightning Network & Lightning Network en Espanol channels in Telegram, there are 3 or 4 lads over there with the patience of a MONK! Explaining certain kind of things to me wasn't an easy task for sure. So u all non believers or lazy people, get on board now and i promise t

I helped three people get their first btc today

I was out after work with coworkers having some beers when I realized I left my wallet at home. "No worries, just cash app me". I said "how about I pay you in bitcoin? We can download an app and have it to you in 5 minutes" My coworkers have always had an interest in bitcoin, but even when I tried to walk them through buying $10 in an exchange they weren't comfortable doing it. "I'll do it later" they say. I noticed this trend in all my friends. Interested, but couldn't pull the trigger on a $10 purchase. I had them download Breadwallet (it's all I know) had them write their passwords on a napkin, take a pic for them to secure, made sure they knew the importance of those words and transferred them $10. Almost instantly they saw it in their wallet and I could tell they were happy to finally be in the community. Something that had seemed so foreign to them, they suddenly had it. I remember the feeling I had when I first got my coin and enjoy

$312,000 Kraken Account being Close - I'm being forced to Buy Bitcoin With the Cash Within 24 hours

(In case Kraken is paying attention, the ticket number is: 2057654) I've had a Kraken account for over 3 years now. I have done millions in transactions and have withdrawn hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of these 3 years without problem. I verified my account up all the tiers, and the bitcoin I received was from legitimate business dealings back in 2011-2012 when bitcoin was worth much much less. So last week I went to withdraw $200k in cash. Kraken contacted me telling me I need to send them additional tax returns from my business, which I did as proof of funds. Of course since the money was earned 8 years ago, none of this would actually show a proof of funds. (also note I have withdrawn over $700,000 from kraken in the past) Two days ago Kraken emailed me telling me that they are closing my account and can't say why. They then told me that I have to withdraw the 4 BTC I have in the account as well as the $290,000 I have in my account in cash, but t

Why i still hold my Bitcoin after losing around 1.9 Million Dollars

Throwaway for obvious reasons. I accumulated Bitcoin from early 2013 till 2017 and all bought and traded around to 100 Bitcoins. Did a lot of Crypto Trading in that timeframe, specially on btc-e.com, a Russian crypto gambling and trading site which was seized by the US Government. Thankfully I had a good nose and traded all LTC I bought there to BTC and send it to myself 2 weeks before the site was shut down. At the time that was around 17 Bitcoins. Never leave your coins in an exchange. Then 2017 came and i was a financial idiot at the time. Well after trading some more real money for some Coins I had a + of 2.350 Million Dollars. And I didn’t sell anything but my investment of around 90k. Now I think It was a stupid move. One of my main causes then was the Tax money I owned in some trades and I would have payed around 400k+ in Taxes which I would have liked to avoid. Maybe you can guess the country. Still – it was retarded and I know it. On the other hand, If I always had done

Bitcoin (BTC) Has Seen One Major Rally During Each Block Reward Era

https://i.redd.it/lf7p0zqyn5d21.png https://cryptoiq.co/bitcoin-btc-has-seen-one-major-rally-during-each-block-reward-era/ So far, there have been 3 block reward eras for Bitcoin (BTC) . The first era started with the genesis block in early January 2009, and there were 50 Bitcoin per block. The second era began at block 210,000 in late November 2012, and the block reward halved to 25 Bitcoin. The third era, which we are in as of this writing, began at block 420,000 in early July 2016. The block reward is now 12.5 Bitcoin. When we overlay block reward halving dates on a logarithmic chart of Bitcoin’s price (below), it becomes apparent that there has been one major rally during each block reward era, at least so far. Further, roughly a year before the block halving that begins the era, the major rally of that era begins. Source: @MoonOverlord on Twitter As can be seen in the above chart the Bitcoin rally of late 2013 which brought Bitcoin over $1,000 for the first time occurr

Imgur for example the ubuntu software store, fedora software app, etc. There's software tagged as bitcoin, or wallets that are not what they look like and may contain malicious code. that's because the maintainers of the store are not being responsible with its users. you are trusting them by using their store. So if 1 billion people had a transaction on bitcoin to get onto lightning, it would take 3333 days. the only solution i see if people buying bitcoin from exchanges already on lightning, essentially bypassing the blockchain layer. does anyone have any insights to this issue? Holy Cow yoga studio in Courtenay B.C. proudly accepting Bitcoin.

Hello! I've been following Bitcoin for a while, and have finally got around to accepting it at my business, a yoga studio on Vancouver Island in BC, Canada. I have been lurking here for a while too, and have finally made an account (with 1 karma which seems strange for a yoga studio?) So far I have made an entry on coinmap.org here but I have found this website very unreliable in the past and don't expect others to journey out of their way to my studio based on this alone. What other steps can I take to connect my business with the greater bitcoin community? I have found there to be precious little in my city. I would love to get the ball rolling in the Comox area for Bitcoin. My studio would be perfect for a meetup! If anyone reading is from the island, please feel free to contact me! Namaste <3 Submitted January 26, 2019 at 12:19PM by HolyCowYogaStudio http://bit.ly/2sKtW88

Samsung Galaxy S10 may come with cryptocurrency cold wallet : South Koreans account for 30 per cent of total cryptocurrency trading. Even corporations are building now !

"The HTC Exodus and Sirin Labs Finney have been pitched as blockchain smartphones, but the Galaxy S10 could be the first mainstream phone with blockchain support. Photos posted on Twitter by a user named Gregory Blake (via Ben Geskin) seem to suggest that Samsung plans to introduce a blockchain wallet in the upcoming Galaxy S10. Those leaked pictures of the Galaxy S10 show references of 'Samsung Blockchain KeyStore'. According to the images, Samsung Blockchain KeyStore is a "secure and convenient place for your cryptocurrency." As per one of the images, the Galaxy S10 will allow users to import a secure cryptocurrency wallet from another source. Previously SamMobile had reported that Samsung Galaxy S10 would come with a cryptocurrency wallet. But it shouldn't come as a huge surprise to see that the Galaxy S10 is going to come with blockchain wallet. You need to remember that South Koreans account for 30 per cent of total cryptocurrency trading worldwide.&q

The networks need to have separate fates.  BitDNS users might be completely liberal about adding any large data features since relatively few domain registrars are needed, while Bitcoin users might get increasingly tyrannical about limiting the size of the chain so it's easy for lots of users and small devices . In 2019, I am STILL paying almost $15 to send $1000 internationally....why?

Am I doing something very wrong? Here is the exact situation: I am a dual citizen in the US and PH, and I have bank accounts in both countries. Whenever I want to send money from my US account to my PH account (and also changing USD to PHP), I end up losing about 1.5% of the money transferred either in fees or in poor exchange rate, depending on my method of transfer. I have used bitcoin, ethereum, transferwise, xoom, and several other methods, however, it always ends up I lose about the same amount (1.5% to 2%) of the transferred amount due to fees changing fiat to crypto/crypto to fiat, and/or USD to PHP, or whatever. Is there a better way that I am missing? Is there any genius out there who can save me the money I pay in fees and show me how to get 100% or as close to 100% of my money without loss? Thanks. Buckminster Fuller predicted PoW, Bitcoin and it's consequences in detail on his book "Critical Path" from 1981. Relevant passage:

"In this cosmically uniform, common energy-value system for all humanity, costing will be expressed in kilowatt-hours, watt-hours, and watt-seconds of work. Kilowatt-hours will become the prime criteria of costing the production of the complex of metabolic involvements per each function or item. These uniform energy valuations will replace all the world’s wildly intervarying, opinion-gambled-upon, top-power-system-manipulatable monetary systems. The time-energy world accounting system will do away with all the inequities now occurring in regard to the arbitrarily maneuverable international shipping of goods and the top economic power structure’s banker-invented, international balance-of-trade accountings. It will eliminate all the tricky banking and securities-markets exploitations of all the around-the-world-time-zone activities differences in operation today, all unbeknownst to the at-all-times two billion humans who are sleeping. Not investing IS actually investing in a failed enterprise.

It took me over 30 years of living to understand that saving my money on a bank account is not saving them at all. It’s investing them into failed enterprise known as fiat, which in form of inflation brings annual loss of around 5% at best. I never bothered myself with investing because it takes extra time and effort until I realized that I had been already investing and investing badly, keeping all my money in a bank for over a decade. It’s hard to tell exactly how much I lost but it may even be half of my total savings as prices were taking a slow but significant rise through all these years. Don’t make my mistake. Invest into anything that protects from inflation and diversify: never put everything into crypto or whatever it is. $100 today may seem like the same $100 ten years later, but it never is. Just joined the 1 BTC club!

Ever since I became interested in Cryptocurrencies, just before the golden bullrun of 2017, I've had it as a goal to have one single Bitcoin. Seeing that zero before the decimal really annoyed me. I'm a poor student, so I set aside some money that I could miss every once in a while to slowly scrape those partial BTC towards the 1, and today I finally reached it! Feels good, just wanted to share it with y'all. On towards the 10 now! Since I'm now theoretically a future millionaire, does anyone have some tips on how best to light cigars with 100 sats? BTC has been instrumental for my experience working in China

So I'm a European teacher working in China, my gf and I came for a bit of adventure. Having a great time, but something that we didn't anticipate is that the Chinese government makes it insanely difficult + expensive to make bank transfers to foreign banks. So sending our salaries home is a real pain. Or it would be, if we didn't have BTC, which we can use to totally bypass the Communist bureaucracy and the convoluted banking system by buying BTC with our Yuan. Then HODL / Sell for fiat, the choice is up to us. Financial autonomy FTW! Submitted January 22, 2019 at 03:15PM by sabiansoldier http://bit.ly/2R6Rw8I

Coinstar Machines Selling Bitcoin is Probably the Biggest News in the History of Bitcoin

In the United States presently there are approx. 2400 Bitcoin ATMs. The average sales volume is 30k per month per machine. So 72 million dollars a month. Coinstar has over 20k machines in 4 countries. Most of the machines are in the United States. The key to why this news is enormous is where those machines are located. A typical Bitcoin atm is located in low to average foot traffic areas. The typical Coinstar machine is located inside of a WALMART. Super high traffic and ultra-convenient for the majority of the United States population. They don't have to go find some machine in a comic book shop somewhere. It's where they buy their groceries every week. It's everywhere they ARE. (haha everwhere they want to be is Visa slogan) Before people start complaining about KYC and AML being a roadblock for people they should look at the amount of business that Western Union does per year all with KYC required each time a transaction happens: Last year, Western Union completed 2

Turning a dairy farm into an eco-responsible cricket farm that use ASIC machines for heating =)

We are exited to announce that we have purchased our farm ! The project is to turn an old dairy farm into a cricket farm. We will also be working to make a mining operation (ASIC/BITCOIN) to heat our farm. Stay tuned for daily publication regarding our progress. Why did we start a cricket farm ? Crickets are a much more eco-friendly than traditional meat. In fact, crickets have a much lower impact on the planet. Its production requires 12 times less fodder resources and about 2000 times less water. Finally, it is also responsible for 100 times less greenhouse gas emissions ! Offers better nutritional qualities. Cricket powder contains 2 to 3 times more complete protein than beef steak of equivalent weight. Crickets will also bring you more iron, more vitamins, and more fiber. We want to help end world hunger. Copied because the rest of the article is about shitcoins. Crypto Mogul: Bitcoin Will Beat Gold’s $7 Trillion Market Cap Bitcoin The twin owners of the US crypto exchange Gemini are standing by their bullish outlook on Bitcoin despite the bear market. In an ask-me-anything on Reddit, crypto mogul Tyler Winklevoss, who runs Gemini with his twin brother Cameron, said he believes Bitcoin is well on its path toward surpassing gold’s market cap of more than $7 trillion. “Our thesis around Bitcoin’s upside remains unchanged. We believe Bitcoin is better at being gold than gold. If we’re right, then over time the market cap of Bitcoin will surpass the ~$7 trillion market cap of gold.” If Bitcoin’s market cap surpasses gold, one BTC would be worth about $333,333, once Bitcoin’s total supply of 21 million is in circulation. Computer scientist and cryptographer Nick Szabo recently explained why he’s on the same page. “There’s going to be some situations where a central bank can’t trust

Shower thought: Higher Bitcoin price increases LN's value

At any time the Ligtning Network's utility is limited by the value the channels can carry, which is determined by the amount of bitcoins used to set them up. Currently the channel capacity on most nodes that route payments is somewhere around $25 to $250, which means it's ideal for small purchases like tipping, buying a beer, or even buying a t-shirt. However, we have a lower reliability for larger payments like buying a laptop or renting a car for the weekend, because there are less channels with larger capacity. However, if Bitcoin's price goes 5x - 10x, suddenly the capacity of the very same channels will increase to anywhere between $125 to $2,500, which means LN will become reliable for larger purchases. This in turn makes LN and the Bitcoin network in general more useful and reliable giving it more value, which will give the bitcoins an even higher valuation too. It's a self reinforcing effect. So, as LN spreads Bitcoin's price will actually be a useful me

Rapid rise in Bitcoin adoption among foreign students in Russian universities.

I just noticed an exciting trend among foreign students here in Russia. I recently carried out a little survey in one of Russia's leading universities in Saint Petersburg, Russia. And I found out 70% of the male foreign students whom I surveyed have very good knowledge of bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. Furthermore, 40% percent of them actually actively use bitcoin to receive money from their family and friends back home, then either spend the bitcoins in stores that accept bitcoin here in Saint Petersburg or turn them to fiat through peer to peer exchanges. I don't know how significant this is but I think it's really good for bitcoin because the increase in adoption around the world is really healthy for bitcoin and crypto in general. Have the regulatory floodgates really just been opened? Wyoming just introduced a bill allowing banks to officially store and handle cryptocurrency UNDER SEC REGULATIONS. Those Banks can act ALL ACROSS THE UNITED STATES.

Being a regular cryptopanic reader I am used to shady, clickbaity or wannabe price-tweaking posts. When I read " Wyoming drops biggest crypto regulation news ever. " as headline I was like: yeah, sure. M00N S00N. But as it was tagged Cardano, which I like a lot, and Cardano moved to this very Wyoming recently, I figured: why not treat yourself to some decent trash read. And seriously, having been in crypto for some years, I was thinking: is this it? Is this really it? Can't be. Long story short: I think it is, actually. It's just hidden in the worst headline in a repost (and overlongest twitter-monologue in original). My sum up would be: bill legitimates banks as official crypto storage and handlers. One twist of the wording of the bill is that it also gives crypto the same currency "rights" as fiat currencies in Wyoming. Other twist is that, the way it is put, it allows for the facilities, as they are defined as banks, to act all through United

Ledger wallet store continues to use Bitpay despite repeated outcries by community users

One of the poster boys/innovator of bitcoin community Ledger has been adamant to keep using Bitpay. This inspite of letting them know of options/alternatives by the community for the last one year Thread1 , Thread2 and Thread3 . Sad to see big bitcoin company like ledger cannot setup their own node/systems for bitcoin payment / fiat conversion through exchanges. Bitcoin longterm price chart

Hi, this is my first post here on reddit. I've been in bitcoin since 2013, haven't posted a lot though. I am however quite active on tradingview, and would like to share my view on bitcoin longterm price growth, so that people might learn how the BTC cycles work, and that the fundamental bitcoin price drivers are: 1. The halvings Metcalfe's law and network growth That's why I think we've almost reached the low in the current bearmarket. It sure could go as low as 1500-2500, but that's just random noise in the long run. Anyways, here's one of my charts from 7 months ago, which seems to be quite accurate so far: https://www.tradingview.com/chart/BLX/uYKn9Nrx-Bitcoin-longterm-chart/ Price growth follows a square-root function in the logarithmic chart. Longterm target 2030+ : 1million USD per BTC ;) There will be many more bull- and bearmarkets. It's normal and part of the growing process. Submitted January 15, 2019 at 06:21PM by ScifiInst

Blue Wallet Bitcoin Lightning Network Wallet Review

I've been testing Blue Wallet on main net for almost a week now. I tried every possible service with incoming and outgoing payments. I converted BTC with zigzag back and force, I tipped here, I used yalls, I played multiple games, and used maybe a dozen other things multiple times. I tested with anything and anybody I could find. The LN payments worked every single time, never failed once. On average payments took 1-2 seconds, feels much faster than a credit card. Scanning QR codes was painless and fast. I didn't have to fill out anything, like with credit cards, I didn't have to worry about my information stolen, or the amount to be incorrect. I could pay as small amounts as fractions of a cent. It was a really pleasant experience overall every time. I know Blue Wallet is custodial, but the objective of the testing was to see if LN can be a reliable method for everyday spending. And I can categorically say that it is. It's better than any other payment method in many

A moment of silence for Gerald Cotten. We lost a true Bitcoin hero today.

I've used Quadrigacx since Gerry launched in 2014. Despite some heavily publicized unavoidable delays over the years, it has been by far my favorite exchange and the only one I trust particularly because of Gerald. He was a true Bitcoin believer from the beginning and was more intent on helping people learn about Bitcoin than to make a buck. A rare breed these days. He was also the first person to tell me about Bitcoin. They recently won a 22m lawsuit against CIBC(big cad bank) who was holding our funds hostage for several months as Quadriga and Gerald largely took the blame. Quadriga has always paid out through thick and thin. This man died fighting for Bitcoin and will be greatly missed in the Bitcoin community and especially in Canada. Edit: People have given him alot of crap over the years including me with regards to delays etc. I'm so sorry for that, you were the rare honest type. RIP Gerald https://i.redd.it/q27mbmf5cha21.jpg https://i.redd.it/yjzv1k71eha21

I Gave People In The Office Some Bitcoin

So over the last few weeks I have given about 15 people in my office some BTC. All on paper wallets, laminated. Told them that there is a couple bucks worth of BTC on each wallet. I told them to put it somewhere safe and one day, when the time is right to them, pull it out and use it. Some looked at me like I am nuts, some thanked me, some have been asking me questions everyday since. Some have asked me how to get the money off, I tell them "you have to figure it out for yourself" every time I get a question I tell them to try to learn how to answer it themselves. It's been fun. It has certainly gotten 15 new people intrigued, started a lot of conversation and two of them have gone down the rabbit hole hard, one sending me links at 11:30 pm on Sat night "Check this out" with a link. I love it. Submitted January 15, 2019 at 01:00AM by CentralParkTurtle http://bit.ly/2Cjk6hW

Ross Ulbricht has moved to a new Prison (USP Tuscon)

After almost 1/3 of a year spent in solitary confinement aka 24 hour lock-down, aka Administrative Segregation, Ross was moved to Oklahoma FTC for about a week, and has now been moved to USP Tuscon. While it's still a high security prison like his last home in Florence, USP Tuscon was also Ross' 2nd choice for a permanent prison after he was sentenced. This is because Tuscon has a high percentage of sex offenders receiving treatment there, making it much safer than a regular high security prison for a person like Ross who's not a sex offender. At and immediately after sentencing he had asked the court to waive the Public Safety Factor part of his BOP security designation which automatically put him in a high security prison, instead hoping for FCI Petersburg, which is a medium security prison, and somewhat close to his extended family. But his 2nd choice was USP Tuscon, so he should hopefully be content for the time being. His mother mentioned that the BOP may be able to

This is a bitcoin mainnet lightning Crowdfunding page created as an app via BTCPayServer: My Crowdfunding page (5 days left) In this campaign you can fund my node as a kind of crowdfunding demo. The goal is to collect 0.021 BTC to open more channels on the lightning network. The funny part - you can just start with 1 Satoshi. When you click contribute - please switch the payment method from "bitcoin" to "bitcoin lightning" - and you are ready to pay via lightning. See here: https://imgur.com/QDn81q4 Fixed: you are now automatically paying via lightning. Every time a donation finds its way to the wallet a sound plays and the screen flickers. Thanks to developer MrKukks (his crowdfunding page) and of course to btcpayserver.org Submitted January 13, 2019 at 07:10PM by quitebeyond http://bit.ly/2RJAKRz

Hi guys, Venezuelan living here. Things are really hard here, even if you have some BTC or USD prices are increasing. Basically I have to support (or at least try) my whole family. One monthly minimum wage is around 50,000 satoshis. Daily that would be around 1,700 satoshis. All of this is calculated using street exchange rate, but even if you use the "official" exchange rate the situation is almost the same, monthly minimum wage would be 5,22 USD PER MONTH. 2018 inflation rate was around 1,700,000% https://www.brecorder.com/2019/01/10/464580/venezuelas-annual-inflation-surges-to-1-7-million-percent/ https://coin.dance/volume/localbitcoins/VES/BTC https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-venezuela-cafe-con-leche-index/ AMA. Here's why I believe using the term "free speech money" to explain bitcoin is important.

"Bitcoin is an idea. An idea which, in its current form, is the manifestation of a machinery purely powered by text. Every aspect of Bitcoin is text: The whitepaper is text. The software which is run by its nodes is text. The ledger is text. Transactions are text. Public and private keys are text. Every aspect of Bitcoin is text, and thus equivalent to speech. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” — First Amendment to the United States Constitution Although the final battle of the Crypto Wars has not been fought yet, it will be very difficult to criminalize an idea, let alone an idea which is based on the exchange of text messages. Every time a government tries to outlaw text or speech, we slip down a path of absurdity which inevitably leads to
