Human beings are fundamentally driven by incentives. If our money and culture incentivizes us to consume lots of resources, then that is what we will do. Bitcoin can change this, if people choose to play the game of life by new rules.

Bitcoin introduces incentives that encourage people to save, be frugal, and take personal responsibility over their finances. Our planet is suffocating under the weight of human civilization. We have to make our economy more eco-friendly. Bitcoin offers people an alternative path. This is what our government, businesses, bosses, friends, and family all need to understand, otherwise the next 100 years will not be pretty. Portugal is a big place. Wouldn't it make sense for bitcoiners to all live in the same place? Then the local merchants would all have incentive to accept bitcoin as payment. Any suggestions? Submitted August 31, 2019 at 12:18AM by Leading_Zeros https://ift.tt/30ObHOC

[Lightning Network] Tippin Goes Mobile! Tip tweets from your own phone, with Bitcoin (Full wallet)

After a few months of hard work, I'm proudly announcing that tippin.me , the tipping platform based on Lightning Network that I released back in December, is going mobile. And mobile means a full Lightning Network enabled wallet on your phone. Some highlights: You will be able to send a tip to a Tweet, from your own phone, without any scanning involved! Just share the tweet from Twitter App, and you are all set. You own your keys, you own your coins. Send lightning payments to tippin @usernames from within the App, just by typing their username. An early alpha will be available for public testing this week, and Android will be released later. Thank you for your support! If you believe in BTC's cyclical nature

Then today I'd guess we're in a similar position as we were in October 2016. Roughly $500-600 range back then, or half of the ATH and right on the SF model value. Today the same price behavior is playing out but the SF model has btc at approximately $8700, thus we may be a bit over extended even still. You may hate this model but I for one am a believer in it. At least in so much as it being a solid indicator of where the bottom is. Would love to see a sharp move down to that $8700 level and as sharp a bounce back up. Long wick would be hugely positive in signaling the next wave up. Anything under 10k is a gift so relax and btfd. Submitted August 29, 2019 at 02:47AM by abalcs81 https://ift.tt/2HxB9jP

My own full node!

After yesterday's thread, I decided I wanted to run my own full node, partially to see how hard it was to do it, but more importantly to a) help myself validate my own transactions and b) help the network's decentralization. Well, I'm happy to say that it took less than an hour to get setup. I've used the script curl https://bitnodes.earn.com/install-full-node.sh | sh to get started. It literally takes care of 95% of the work, only thing missing is to adjust the settings in bitcoin.conf . Since I expected it would be much harder I decided to setup an Electrum Personal Server . It also took much much less than I expected, probably had it up and running 15 minutes from the moment I opened it's github page. I'm super happy to have my own node. It certainly isn't perfect since I'm using a VPS to run it, but I'll be getting a $50 Raspberry Pi and running it at home as soon as possible. If you have never looked into running a full node I very much

Paid our employees with Bitcoin, now we're sanctioned and closed.

Crypto payments to employees is the best for innovation, and a step forward to mass adoption, but as always, you need to be careful about where you make it, how, and also, who you let to know about it. Aware of Internet security risks, and because we're still inside and we don't want more problems if this information gets to the wrong people, in this case i'll try to hide things such as addresses, the name of our CEO and delicate info which can be used against us. I'm sorry if the post is too long... There's a lot going on and i really need to explain almost everything with detail, believe me, is important. We have to go into context here , since Hugo Chavez came to power he started to expropriate companies, simply because they were private sector companies, Ok hold on... Don't even try to convince me about the "fair" causes of his expropiations, that was a communist measure to get money from companies and destroy the private sector and jobs,

Bitcoin And Blockchain’s Effect Would Be 100 Times Bigger Than The Internet: Tim Draper

However, the Bitcoin bull argued that Bitcoin’s effect on industries would be as much as 100 times bigger than that of the Internet. With the Internet, information, communication, media, entertainment, and gaming were transformed. “Now we have new technologies and they start with Bitcoin. This is a magic technology that has somehow allowed us to have a trusted global currency that isn't tied to any political force and it's open, transparent, global, and frictionless,” Draper said. Global adoption of bitcoin will never happen until the complexity of the UX is abstracted away.

People I know can barely remember their passwords for sites they use. I am also sometimes guilty of this. Now they are supposed to remember a seed phrase, etc? Not gonna happen. Like it or not, to paraphrase Carlin, there are some dumb motherfuckers floating around. I'd consider myself in the mid-tier in terms of technical knowledge. I still answer basic questions routinely. People take their car in for service. The service is magically completed. The person doesn't understand how, what was done or even how a car works to begin with. H/she turns it on, pushes a pedal and it takes them to get their next burger. Most people do not understand how the internet, email or anything else works. They upload cat videos or of themselves being idiots or ugly, simple people and are called "influencers - Kardashians" Bitcoin must be made so simple that a Kardashian can use it. They are the epitome of American indulgence and stupidity. Until it's made idiot proof, bitcoi

Saudi Arabia Warns its citizens from trading crypto and threatens a shitty coin.

https://i.redd.it/0l7lbkz6shi31.jpg Ever since Dec, 2017. The Saudi Monetary Authority (SAMA) which is basically the central bank of Saudi Arabia has issued a public warning on Cryptocurrency trading stating anonymity as a reason. This has been an issue for Saudi citizens since everytime money is wired through a Saudi bank to any known exchange, the transaction gets rejected immediately, some banks even close accounts, and all credit card purchases are instantly denied. This leaves the Saudis with the options of Localbitcoin.com and personal meet-ups. Just 1 week ago, SAMA renewed their wanring from Crypto trading and specifically mentioned a shitty coin called CryptoRiyal http://cryptoriyal.io , since it is using the Saudi's flag and currency's name. This has made the crypto situation in Saudi Arabia even more complicated. Even though a neighbour country (Bahrain) has opened its official, licensed, and first crypto exchange, no Saudi wire transfer was ever allowed to

A very sad and expensive lesson to learn

Yesterday night, I had my bitcoin stolen. I had about ~.32 btc taken from my Exodus wallet. I'm unsure how it was taken. The transaction showed up on my Exodus wallet when I signed in, so I'm unsure if my recovery key or my private key was taken. It was about 95% of my crypto "portfolio". I had recently (03/19) been hacked, and nearly subject to a ransomware attack via my vnc server. Luckily, I stopped it before I lost anything. I'm unsure if they managed to get my wallet that way, or something, and just waited until now to take the funds. Or maybe someone's gained remote access to my PC now, although I wouldn't be able to tell. I had about 1 ltc in there as well, and that wasn't taken, so I'm unsure what to take from that. I thought I'd been very careful in general. I generated the wallet, and kept the recovery key on paper, and backed up the private key onto a usb. I 2FA everything online. I actually looked into 2FA for Exodus a while bac

Bitcoin is NOT easy money.

Despite promises of "get rich quick," Bitcoin is NOT easy money. In truth, there's an epic opportunity in front of all of us - it will reward whoever studies it and has the conviction to practice it. IMO, Bitcoin has won the battle of ideas. The topics range from: computer science, applied cryptography, game theory, distributed systems, infosec, opsec, behavioural economics, psychology, hardware/software engineering, energy production, monetary history, market mechanics, and Austrian economics in the context of the systematic failure of our existing financial system. I believe in everything it represents (separation of Money and State, financial freedom for the people, taking power away from the corrupt elite, privacy as a human right, etc.). The financial rewards are fair for those who dedicate time to understand it, and contribute to make it better. Submitted August 24, 2019 at 03:20AM by lobt https://ift.tt/2zhqULI

Splices and Liquidity in the Lightning Network

When talking about the Lightning Network, it is often said that money is “locked up” in payment channels. The reason for this expression is that when you have money in a payment channel you cannot use it outside the channel. In this post we explain what are splices, what is needed for them to work and how can they change our perspective on liquidity. https://medium.com/muunwallet/splices-and-liquidity-in-the-lightning-network-1d4bd4bc7575 Submitted August 23, 2019 at 10:33PM by florravenna https://ift.tt/2TWaSAA

Paxful takes 0.0005 BTC (5 bucks) to send outgoing transactions, yet sends them at 12 sats/Byte

Paxful takes 0.0005 BTC (5 bucks) to send outgoing transactions. They batch 12 transactions together, so 12 * 5 = 60 dollars. They send the transactions at 12 sats/Bytes, paying 0.0004 btc for the total transaction (4 dollars). So that's 54 dollars profit on the detriment of regular people who have wait 1-2 hours before their transactions confirm and still pay top dollar for it. Why is this allowed? Why is nobody talking about it? I made a post about it on /r/paxful , they deleted it a few hours later. Edit : Actually, it's 37 transactions batched together, which makes their profit 185 dollars instead of 60. I make about 1300 euros a month, which means it would take some months to afford 0.5 bitcoin, however by the time I save up the money the price is most likely going to change... Should I ask a bank loan to invest right now or do I save and risk? Any other suggestions? I'm 19 and live in Italy. Thanks Submitted August 19, 2019 at 03:25AM by cccc1255 https://ift.tt/2MoIl5T

Bitcoin. The last month

We may look back at the last month as monumental for bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. What was once a fringe idea has now hit the mainstream. The evidence: The U.S. Congress held hearings on crypto in both the House and Senate. The U.S. Treasury Secretary held an emergency press conference to discuss the state of crypto regulations. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) put out a report calling digital currency the “future of money.” And then there’s Facebook’s plan to create a stablecoin and digital payments system through Libra. While it looks like Libra may never get off the ground, it sparked a worldwide conversation around digital currencies and the future of money. People are finally waking up to the fact that government-controlled money likely does them more harm than good. So they’re seeking out better money, like bitcoin. And it’s spreading like a virus. If Capital appreciation is the sole source of wealth, why does the government want to make it illegal/impossible to save money?

Under the fiat system, the government treats all economic problems as resolvable with low interest rates that shift capital from investment to consumption. This is exactly like a farmer who has a poor harvest due to a drought, and decides to resolve it by eating through his seed crop and growing fat(which convinces himself he's doing very well), but leaves nothing to plant the next year's crop. What is true for the farmer is equally true in the economy -- the more we consume today, the less we will have tomorrow. When many people "hoard" money, they increase its value, which allocates capital toward those who are best able to invest it, but does not force anyone to spend or invest for the sole purpose of escaping inflation. The result is a continually increasing capital stock, and prosperity. Contrast this with Japanese perpetual zero interest rate policy, where money, unable to earn a return, flees the country as fast as it is earned, and you will understand the e

Venezuela UPDATE from the ground. 1 BTC is around 150,000,000 Bs. A month ago it was 85,000,000 Bs. (Bolivares). Monthly minimum wage is less than 5 USD (it was 30 USD a year ago). 591 BTC were traded last week using LBTC (last week was 562) which is around 76,492,000,000 Bs. (ATH)

I'm a Venezuelan "living" here. AMA even if it looks dumb, you can also check my post history. Biggest bank note is 50,000 Bs. which is less than 4 USD. You need to use debit and credit, bank transfer, cryptos and USD to pay anything. This after 5 zeroes were shaved from the currency less than a year ago and 3 zeroes more 12 years ago. So it would be 5,000,000,000,000 Bs. Sources: https://coin.dance/volume/localbitcoins/VES/BTC https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2016-venezuela-cafe-con-leche-index/ https://dolarsatoshi.com/ About the minimum wage https://www.venezuelanews.net/news/260700087/the-president-of-venezuela-raises-the-minimum-wage 40.000 Bs. per MONTH plus 25.000 Bs. as food bonus, total 65.000 Bs. Got My First Full Node Running

I hope it is okay to post this here. If not let me know and I will delete. I just needed to tell someone who could appreciate it. I took one of my old computers from like 2008 and put a new 1TB hard drive in it. Installed Linux and Bitcoin core from bitcoin.org and started downloading the blockchain. She'll only take 4GB of RAM max. I have it cranked down on number of peers, so that it does not consume all of my bandwidth on the initial block download. I'd say that I have a little more than half of the blockchain in about 4 days of downloading off and on. I mostly let it run over night while I sleep. I am now officially part of the solution. W00T! Why does the average person hate Bitcoin so much?

I can understand why those who benefit from the current financial system hate Bitcoin as it is a potential threat to them. But why do some many average people hate it? The current system offers them wage stagnation at best and a lifetime of being in debt. Actually, not only being in debt, but millennials are drowning in debt with little hope (besides Bitcoin) of escaping. Bitcoin offers a better alternative, but most people still have a negative opinion on it. Edit: Why is it when ever someone asks a question on this sub, they are always downvoted? Am I not allowed to ask questions? Submitted August 16, 2019 at 01:23PM by ThatOtherGuy254 https://ift.tt/2TDmHvo

I'm considering accepting Bitcoin/Lightning payments for an online only business.

Bitpay.com looks pretty sleek. I understand it gets a lot of hate in this sub. Could someone explain why, and also make recommendations for who I should go with instead? Thanks Edit: Thanks for the help guys! Submitted August 14, 2019 at 01:16PM by davidcwilliams https://ift.tt/2Zb6NOc

U.K. Bank Santander blocks all payments to Coinbase

Just got off the phone with a Santander rep in the U.K. who informed me they will no longer be allowing their customers to deposit money to Coinbase. After I put in a complaint their “complaints department” confirmed to me that I should move to an alternative bank if I wish to make the payment. They went on to say this is likely because of an increase in fraud related to Coinbase. EDIT: Santander is a Spanish bank, but I use them in the U.K. Submitted August 14, 2019 at 04:48PM by iCheat69 https://ift.tt/2Z3qROn

Im bored so here is my 5 year plan for Bitcoin and how I will retire young.

First off this is probably going to age very poorly but it also could be prophetic at the same time so you can't blame me for at least having a plan. At least with this I can avoid getting greedy. Lastly, this is for fun so don't tear me a new one about using past performance for future predictions...i get it. Anyways next year we are going to see the halving event which, in the past, slowly signals a new bull run within 6ish months. Using a stock to flow model which has been pretty accurate so far, we can expect to see btc reaching 100k and higher. My plan is to reach 1btc by the halving and then "tether up" at that 100k mark and wait for the drop. Again, using past indicators, the bottom is typically found at -5x the ath. Hopefully, it will peak slightly above 100k, so when it goes down to ~20-30k I can buy back in with 4-5 btc accumulated. Then in~4 years repeat the process with the new ath is 500k and the dollar value for my wallet is around 2.5 mil. (At most). I

Venezuela UPDATE from the ground. 1 BTC is around 150,000,000 Bs. A month ago it was 85,000,000 Bs. (Bolivares). Monthly minimum wage is less than 5 USD (it was 30 USD a year ago). 562 BTC were traded last week using LBTC (last week was 433) which is around 68,000,000,000 Bs.

Around 4 USD at street rate and 5 USD at official rate. AMA! Submitted August 13, 2019 at 01:19AM by WorkingLime https://ift.tt/2OVk7SK

Bitcoin salary payments legal and taxed in New Zealand (as of 1st September)

There has just been a ruling by the head of the NZ tax department that clarifies the legality of paying employees in Bitcoin and how it should be handled on an accounting level. It's a pretty dry read; however in short it's an endorsement of paying staff using Bitcoin... Example: Employee paid part of salary in bitcoin Ken is employed by Cryptowonderland Ltd. His salary is NZ$10,000 per month before tax. Half Ken’s salary is payable in NZD direct credited to his bank account. The other half is payable in bitcoin transferred to Ken’s bitcoin wallet. PAYE should be calculated on the $10,000 gross payment and withheld and paid to the Commissioner (in New Zealand dollars). The net amount is payable to Ken. If Ken is a Kiwisaver member or is subject to, for example, child support or student loan deductions, the Employer’s Guide (IR335) and the PAYE calculator (both available on the Inland Revenue website www.ird.govt.nz ) can be used to assist with calculating these. https:
