The immutability of the Bitcoin blockchain cannot be underestimated. If truth cannot be undone, then the present cannot be used to control the past, and the past to control the future.

The thing that blows my mind about bitcoin that we should know (but not necessarily everyone else yet)

Bitcoin has dropped over 80% THREE times before this recent “crash”. Parenthesis around the “crash” because is 80% really considered a crash anymore to Bitcoin? An 80% decrease in other assets would really strike panic in at least US domestic markets if not global markets. Historical crashes are: 1) The Great Depression of the 1930’s hit a total of 86% percent down. 2) The 60’s to the 80’s saw around a 70% stock market crash. 3) The Dot Com Bubble of the 90’s saw a 40% crash. 4) The Sub Prime Mortgage Loan Crisis of 2008 saw a 50% crash.... Bitcoin has seen 80% “crashes”. This is Bitcoin’s fourth rodeo. I’m not sure what other stock (let alone, asset) can withstand 80% “crashes” and come back stronger. The first alternative asset I think of is the AMZN stock which fell 70%~ during the Dot-Com bubble. AMZN fell from $85~ to I roughly $20. Now each AMZN stock is worth roughly $1,725. Amazon did this once. Bitcoin has done this three times before. This is an anomaly of an asset. Pair

I have ascended to a Hodler

Let’s preface this: I have been in crypto for about 2.5-3 years now, mostly in Bitcoin. I dabbled in alts for a quick stint, lost a good amount of money, and got out. Over the years, I have hit a couple different phases. When I first got in, I was checking the price around 3-4 times a day. As time has gone on, I find myself checking less and less. This has gotten to the point that I just don’t really check the price at all. I remember opening Coinbase the other day to see the price drop. I just blew some air out of my nose, said “hmm”, and bought the dip. What I’m trying to say here is that I have hit the phases of buying and selling, checking the prices hourly, but at the end of the day everyone should be it for the long run. Price could drop again and again, but it won’t really matter in 20 years. TL;DR: HODL Submitted September 30, 2019 at 06:33AM by drockaferd https://ift.tt/2nF1AwN

Buyers Pact 👌 3:30PM Central Time Fridays

I would like to start a group purchase at $10 per participant at a set time every week regardless of market conditions. I know that it may seem silly at first but the $10 mark is something that most people can afford. It's not about any sort of market moving strategy it's more about a commitment to making Bitcoin a success. I think that we should view the $10 as doing our part to help Bitcoin continue to set a new higher low than every year before...I think it's possible that this group can grow to massive numbers and I do get excited when I think about 10,000,000 people buying $10 worth of Bitcoin at the same time each week. This would be bigger than Bakkt and bigger than institutions nothing against them but I have more faith in people and the power of their numbers especially the hodlers 👍 I'm open to criticism but please be thoughtful. "Quite honestly, I don't think we should be doing smart contracts on Bitcoin. Bitcoin doesn't do smart contracts, and it doesn't do smart contracts because it does security." - Andreas Antonopoulos

Taken from LTB #414 Live Q&A Stephanie Murphy: “Do you think Bitcoin will be able to shift from block rewards to transaction fees to maintain security as the block reward approaches zero?” Andreas M. Antonopoulos: “This is one of the fundamental misunderstandings and dynamics of mining for most people, which is the idea that something suddenly happens sometime at an undescribed future, either at the next halving or in 2141. The truth is on a daily basis, every single miner in the industry looks at six or seven different factors: the efficiency of their mining equipment, the price of electricity in their local fiat, the cost of their operation system, the current price of Bitcoin in fiat, the reward that's available as a block subsidy, the average amount of fees they can get, and the relative proportion of hashing power. They decide based on all of these factors. Do I leave this specific machine on at its current efficiency, or do I turn it off, or do I point it to another co

A work colleague is selling his house and car for bitcoin?! Is his theory true?

Hi all. I am no expert on bitcoin. I only purchase the occasional bitcoin sum, for deep web transactions. I was speaking to a work colleague who is in to investment. In total, I think he has 1 bitcoin, as he mentioned he's lost a couple of grand in the last week or so. I said, "Oh, if it goes to like $16,000 again, will you be selling?" and he was like "No." He said he's down sizing his house and also selling his car for a cheaper one. The money he'll make from this, he's going to invest in bitcoin. He said the reason behind him not selling at 16K, is that experts say that bitcoin will eventually rise to $100,000+. He said because more big businesses will be looking to take transactions in bitcoin and apparently there might be something soon, called a bitcoin pension. I've obviously not come on this sub to ask "iS tHiS GuNa HaPpEn?", but is there actually any theory behind this claim that it will eventually be $100,000+ per bitc

Venezuela WEEKLY UPDATE "living" here. 1 BTC is around 160,000,000 Bs (Bolivares). Three weeks ago it was 205,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is around 1.8 USD (it was 30 USD a year ago). 482 BTC were traded last week using LBTC (last week was 489) which is around 92,944,000,000 Bs.

As you probably know I'm a Venezuelan living here. AMA even if it looks dumb, you can also check my post history. Government gave some money bonus (free bonus) around 10 USD. Public services like electricity, gasoline and tap water are owned by the government and are free, service is really bad with blackouts daily. Biggest bank note is 50,000 Bs. which is less than 2 USD and less than a montly minimum wage. You need to use debit and credit, bank transfer, cryptos and USD to pay anything. This after 5 zeroes were shaved from the currency less than a year ago and 3 zeroes more 12 years ago. So it would be 5,000,000,000,000 Bs. Is a Zero-Inflation money good for the economy?

I've started to be interested in Bitcoin in the last few months and started accumulating some on a monthly basis. I was smart enough not to invest during the 2017 bubble and not in the months following, because I thought the leaders of the western world would simply make it illegal. I know that would be extremely unfair, but so does making Marijuana and Gay marriage illegal, and these issues took decades to change even in the "free world". I believe that the only reason Bitcoin is legal is because many politicians secretly own bitcoin and benefit from it, and that bitcoin will explode upwards when this will become public sometime in the next 2-3 years. Let's get back to the question. In theory, inflation is a way to push the people into lending their "unused savings" to people/businesses who need the money and are ready to pay interest. Imagine that you have 10000 people and each has $200k (and no other savings at all). Each one can decide to lend his mon

Google has created a 50 qbit computer and executed an algorithm in minutes where it would have ran for 20,000 years using a normal computer. Cryptography will soon (in maybe 10 years) be impacted by quantum computing. What kind of algorithm would you use to face that tremendous computational power?

I think in a relatively near future, Google will be able to solve any mathematical problem used in crypto in a matter of minutes. Bitcoin's mining system is based on a mathematical problem solvable in exponential time, which is comparable to a simple linear time algorithm for a qComputer iirc. How would you avoid the Google's supremacy over cryptocurrencies? What kind of algorithm is solvable in exponential time for a quantum computer? From a day job to a crypto job (a Bitcoin life-changing story).

I've spent most of my early 20s into getting a college degree. After graduation, I got a job in healthcare. The pay was great and working hours were horrible. I would spend 9-11 hours a day at work, not to mention having on-calls 6 to 7 days a month. The job really had no taste or any lifestyle in it. Before I got the job and right after graduation, I was introduced to crypto and was fascinated by it since day 1. I would take away 30-40% of my salary and put it into crypto, reading about it in my spare time. It was really March, 2019 when I decided to leave my day job for good. I went on a journey to explore cryptoland. I would spend most my time on Reddit asking questions and answering some about crypto. I would raise awareness in my own community, and help my friends set up their wallet and purchase a fraction of Bitcoin. I had no pay, I was living off my savings. I've left everything for crypto and crypto had nothing to offer to me. Later on, I came across a crypto exchan

Coinbase, Circle, etc... should immediately start pursuing opportunities to buy up some small state charter banks, small FDIC banks, or credit union, convert them to full-reserve US Dollar banks aka a dollar warehouse, so that they can continue to offer exchange services in a liquidity/dollar crisis

Coinbase, Bitstamp, Grayscale, Circle and other major Bitcoin institutions' exposure to the banking system will make them incredibly vulnerable if there is a liquidity crisis (the current Repo Madness is a bad sign)... At the very least, it's something for Bitcoiners to think about.... right now only the US Dollar is legal tender... Bitcoin can and will be cut off from the rest of the banking system/economy if the Banks close their doors on major Bitcoin custodians. If Bitcoin was legal tender, this wouldn't be a problem. Although, I guess the economy moves faster than legislation, so if the dollar does actually collapse, then Bitcoiners can quickly pivot to reprice goods and services in Bitcoin... at which point, we're sort of in a black market, because there is no way Bitcoiners will keep track of capital gains on their BTC transactions... Being a vendor that accepts Bitcoin automates your dip buying

I have accepted Bitcoin payments for my business for several years. I noticed a pattern... When Bitcoin is dips people tend to get rid of their Bitcoin by buying stuff. The number of Bitcoin payments I receive during a dip is more than four times that of when the value of Bitcoin is moving sideways or upwards. So... That is a hidden benefit of accepting Bitcoin as a vendor! It's sort of uses the hive-mind to react to dips and receiving those payments is just like automated buys. Hodl on my brothers. People continue to leave their bitcoins on the exchanges who are backed by the Banks and financialize bitcoin via rehypothification, commingling, OTC markets, and APIs that allow for their bots to trade back and forth with each other at whatever price they want at any time they want. The solution is simple. Move every single Satoshi into wallets where you control your private keys! This is absolutely the only way to take control back. Bitcoin price may be down right now but it's adoption is definitely up

Amid the recent price fall, let's not forget all the achievements bitcoin has seen lately. Bitcoin has a presence in almost every sector now. You can buy plane tickets, real estate properties, donate to charities, there is even an option to pay your taxes in bitcoin in some US states. Thanks to payment processors like BTCPay Server , Blockonomics , CoinGate and many more that are enabling online merchants to spread this adoption. Soon, France will enable thousands of merchants to accept bitcoin at their stores with big names such as Foot Locker, Decathlon, Conforama, Sephora, and Intersport all ready to accept the digital currency. This is a major step forward for bitcoin and digital currency landscape as more people will have access and an opportunity to use bitcoin as a form of payment. Bakkt launched this week opening doors for institutional investors to invest in Bitcoin. As for Bitcoin ATM's, they have crossed almost 5659 in number and growing everyday, although 75%

I keep seeing pissy comments from crypto ‘veterans’ leaving shitty “you know nothing” responses to commenters in this sub that very explicitly state they are new and still learning. Usually these newbies will leave a comment saying something like “hey I’m still pretty new to this” followed by either an opinion or theory they have depending on the type of post they are commenting on. I have noticed that a lot of times the responses to those types of comments are usually not very constructive and instead just tend to be dismissive or just a simple ‘you have no idea what you’re talking about’. So look I get that bitcoin has this internet following and I know people on the internet don’t tend to like it when ‘normies’ try to adopt something that they have shunned or made fun of in the past. HOWEVER, this is one of those cases where new people jumping on the bandwagon is good for all of us! I know that when somebody comes into a comment thread acting like they know what they are talking a

$10 is a good deal, so $8.5K is an even better deal" long-term, big-picture perspective

Was Bitcoin a great deal at $10K? Yes. Therefore, at $8.5K it's an even better deal. Did something fundamentally change with Bitcoin in the last day or so? No. Are central banks still engaged in endless "money printing"? Yes. Are central bank fiat currencies doomed? Yes. Is Bitcoin the "hardest" form of money ever invented? Yes. Are the bailed-out banking criminals who created 2008/9 still out of jail and committing financial crimes with impunity? Yes. Is debt at all levels, government, corporate, and private at unsustainable levels and growing? Yes. Are there trade wars and currency wars? Yes. Are there asset bubbles (real estate, stocks, bonds)? Yes. Will they pop? Certainly. Will Bitcoin become the de facto global reserve currency? I believe so. Should you own Bitcoin? That's up to you. But note: I've barely scratched the surface of the dire economic situation facing the world. Submitted September 26, 2019 at 08:11AM by Mark_Bear https

PMC Bank in India restricts all account holders from withdrawing more than $14 for the next 6 months

The reserve bank of India put this restriction on PMC bank. People are distressed. Many have their life's saving in their bank account which is in this bank. Look at this man raging because he cannot pay dialysis bill for his mother who is in hospital even when he has enough money in his bank account. The bank officials say he can withdraw max $14 for the next 6 months. The bank called cops on that man but the cop was smart enough to back up. Another woman in background says that she lost her husband and needs to withdraw money from the bank to meet day to day expenses. Another man says that he needs to pay bills for his sister's wedding. This is why we need a decentralized financial system. PMC Bank: Customers file police complaint against chairman, directors for misappropriation of funds RBI imposes restrictions on PMC Bank; withdrawal restricted to Rs 1,000 per account Update - RBI Raises Withdrawal Limit To Rs. 10,000 For PMC Bank Account Holders You can now with

I used my self managed superfund (SMSF) money to take roughly 4BTC out of circulation.

In Australia, employers are forced into matching and paying 9.5% of your yearly salary into an employees superannuation fund. I've noticed there is a whole scam industry built around this where the third party that controls your money invests into stable investments that make less money so they keep siphoning my money into their own pockets as management fees. After a decade of not making any money I recently did a lot of paperwork to roll all the money into my own SMSF so that I could invest 90% into BTC. I would rather do 100% but the law states I cannot have more than 90% of my funds in one asset class. The rest I reluctantly put into buying gold. I see Bitcoin as a much more secure form of retirement than anything the government can offer. I've encouraged my sibling to do the same and every year from now 9.5% of our wages will go to our SMSF and 90% of that is buying Bitcoin until we reach retirement age. I personally think everyone should be doing this. Even if you don

Guys things are changing. For the first time during a dip my friends are asking me about Bitcoin instead of calling me a sucker

For the first time during a dip every friend who is messaging me about Bitcoin is messaging me that they think it will be the new world currency and ask me how they can invest. This has never happened, not in the past 10 years of me telling my friends about this have they ever come to me looking for advice during a down turn. Exciting stuff! Cause they're finally asking to buy at the right time when it's down and not the most idiotic time when it's up where they're most likely to temporarily get hurt. Yet another company [NameCheap] runs away from BitPay-like services. It's time to go Noncustodial

In the past months, a lot of merchants have been opening up to Bitcoin as a payment solution compared to the fiat currency but are struggling to find a solution that offers them a seamless solution. Companies/Customers ( Amazon Watch , NameCheap , Hong Kong Press ) have voiced there concerns about growing scrutiny and stringent regulations they have to follow to accept bitcoin payments. Just last week a 'customer' had to do KYC to make a payment using BitPay. Such rules are not even heard of in the traditional fiat world. This article very well sums up why such rules are bad for the crypto community and does more harm than good. Most merchants end up going to top companies like BitPay, CoinBase only to realize they along with there customers have to jump through hoops to make a simple transaction. Not to mention getting there accounts closed or frozen. What they need is a non custodial solution that provide you with complete control of your funds without any interference

Venezuela UPDATE "living" here. 1 BTC is around 190,000,000 Bs (Bolivares). Two weeks ago it was 205,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimum wage is less than 2 USD (it was 30 USD a year ago). 489 BTC were traded last week using LBTC (last week was 550) which is around 104,006,582,000 Bs. (ATH)

I'm a Venezuelan living here. AMA even if it looks dumb, you can also check my post history. Government gave some money bonus (free bonus) around 10 USD. Public services like electricity, gasoline and tap water are owned by the government and are free, service is really bad with blackouts daily. Biggest bank note is 50,000 Bs. which is less than 2 USD. You need to use debit and credit, bank transfer, cryptos and USD to pay anything. This after 5 zeroes were shaved from the currency less than a year ago and 3 zeroes more 12 years ago. So it would be 5,000,000,000,000 Bs. MONTHLY minimum wage IS 40.000 Bs. , which is LESS than 2 USD per MONTH. Official rate (Venezuelan Central Bank http://bcv.org.ve/ ) is 19.715 Bs. per each USD. So 40.000 / 19.715 is 2 USD. To help everyone out, I wrote up a brief script which will connect to the websocket for any major exchange and start streaming price data from the exchange. It's so easy to do anyone could do it. All you need is Python and the ability to copy and paste code. Let's quickly walk through how we can get started. Banks and their own Crypto currency is just putting lipstick on a pig.

I’m getting really frustrated and wanted to rant. I hate seeing China, Wells Fargo and others as of late talking about making their own cryptocurrency. It literally does nothing to benefit the consumer. We already don’t trust banks, so then jazzing up their already crappy ledger system and calling it “crypto” means nothing. I don’t even understand why they spend the time financing it, it’s literally no different than having a bank account and then managing the ledger. It is not trustless like bitcoin. The concept is just dumb. Screw banks. Submitted September 20, 2019 at 03:28PM by TheCrownedPixel https://ift.tt/305TKhp

I make weekly purchases of bitcoin, grateful for the little dips below 10k.

It seems like bitcoin has been dipping below 10k once a week. This has been the time I buy my $100 worth of bitcoin weekly. I mine bitcoin and I also purchase it. So my stack is always increasing. I've missed one week, it was the week that bitcoin hit $3100. I was a little bummed out. The following week I doubled up on my purchase, to catch up. This approach has worked out well for me. I believe that with in the next year, anyone that got in under 10k will look like they got in at the bottom. So I feel blessed when there is a little dip like today. I usually buy on Friday, but I'm going to go ahead and bump it up to today. Stay sober, get bitcoin Submitted September 19, 2019 at 05:41PM by N8twon https://ift.tt/2LFme9q

To anyone who make argument 'Gold have value because it can be made into jewelry'

You make jewelry from gold because gold have value, not gold have value because you can make jewelry from it. why not use glass as jewelry? it looks shiny too. gold real value come from scarcity and liquidity . (just like bitcoin value come from) the use in electronic is very tiny that contribute to the price, if industry usage is what make element valuable, then why steel is very cheap compared to gold? it literally used in almost everything. Also imagine if space technology keep improving and asteroid mining is happening, they can mine a shit ton of gold from asteroid, then what will happen to the price? but still, gold hold real value, for now the scarcity and liquidity is very good. space tech still long way to go, and liquidity is the best because historically we use gold since long time. "It's unprecedented, at least in the post-crisis era," said Mark Cabana, rates strategist at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. On Tuesday morning, the NY Fed launched what's called an "overnight repo operation," during which the central bank attempts to ease pressure in markets by purchasing Treasuries and other securities. The goal is to pump money into the system to keep borrowing costs from creeping above the Fed's target range. Bitcoin is my ONLY path towards financial freedom.

A little about myself.. I'm a millennial who just entered the job market in a high cost of living state California. I am making only $50k a year. I put whatever I have leftover after Rent, food, bills, taxes etc into investing in BTC because I feel like it has the best ROI of any asset at the moment. I'm lucky to not have any student loans and I'm not willing to take on further student loans to increase my education because I believe that is risky. Higher education does not guarantee higher income. With the constant rises of home prices I'll never be able to retire or own a home at this rate. The average 4 bedroom home in California ranges near a million dollars in relatively safe neighborhoods. With my income i'll be retiring in my 70s with no social security (i'm guessing it may run out due to government reckless spending). It may be a risky to put it all in Bitcoin but I feel like this is a chance worth taking. If it doesn't work out, I'll be able to

Sold a few grand worth of Bitcoin on Local Bitcoins - someone reversed a transaction and now Barclay's have ruined me. Can't get mortgage, overdraft, mobile phone etc for 5 years.

Throwaway account as I'm still dealing with this. Background: I saw an opportunity for arbitrage between Coinbase (buy) and LBC (sell) in late 2018. From memory I think I bought about 2-3k worth (GBP) and sold in small batches (to ID and phone verified LBC customers). I first knew something was wrong as I couldn't log in to my Barclays mobile app, it provided a code and I called customer service who wanted to discuss a transaction. I was 100% honest and sent correspondence and statements. About a week later I receive a notice telling me to take everything out of my account (had the account since childhood) and find a new bank. This was stressful enough and I lodged a complaint with Barclays, that was not upheld, then asked the Financial Ombudsman Service to step in and help me. Turns out that one of the transactions for less than £200 was reversed by the buyer, so Barclays took this money from my account, and returned it to the account holder. Fast forward nearly a year an

You are in the early days!

If you don’t think you are in the early days keep these things in mind. People aren’t completely aware of bitcoin and/or what it exactly is. They never have heard of it when you mention it. They think it’s a typical programmed numbered system the bank uses when you explain the basics. You are in the early days! Amazon stock still rises and everyone knows what it is yet it still rises and it’s just a product website. They have added or copy cat many online services since books like music, tv, data storage, web servers, and photos etc. Amazon is a little over 20 years old. Bitcoin is a little over ten years old. When amazon was 10 years old I remember people didn’t know what amazon was. Stocks in general and for instance amazon stock does not seem to stock split anymore. For those that don’t know what a stock split is this occurs when they need people to afford a share because people can’t afford 1500 to 2000 dollars for one share. They take the total available shares do something l

Bank: So what's your purpose of international bank transfer....

So got tired of buying BTC with 5% debit card fee. So I called my bank to unlock international bank transfer. They asked a lot of questions. What's your purpose of international bank transfer? "Securities" Is it more than 1000 USD per year? Yes Is it more than 10000 USD per year? Yes Is it more than 15000 USD per year? Yes Do you have a regular savings? Yes but not with your bank. etc etc. Well I hope the bank wont cancel my transfers, It is really scary that the bank can stop me from using my own money. I've been trying to convert all my assets into bitcoin for a while now, it is not easy and it does happen over night. Short the bank, long bitcoin. Today, my bank suddenly blocked BTC purchases. They cancelled my cards and locked my account.

I've had the same bank forever, and have regularly made BTC purchases over a period of 2 years with no problems. Then suddenly today when I tried to buy some more sats, they just straight up cancelled my cards and blocked my account with no warning. I have no cash and it's friday, so I'm basically fucked until at least monday, as they said it would take a couple working days to resolve the issue or whatever. This is bullshit. I've seen a lot of posts saying shit like this, but I never had any trouble. I'm pissed. Edit: forgot to say which bank. It's Danske Bank (Danish Bank), I live in Norway And I'm talking about debit card. Never had a credit card in my life Danske Bank even stated last year that they won't stop users from investing in crypto. https://danskebank.com/news-and-insights/news-archive/news/2018/23032018 Submitted September 13, 2019 at 12:10PM by Anything4Bitcoin https://ift.tt/2AgIoIU
