Positive thoughts towards BTC

(Im 16 and this Is after having a small convo with my father about BTC, if im wrong please correct me) Recently i've noticed with the world having a lot of s*** going on, such as wars, terrible world leaders, financial crisis etc, all I see from this is the beauty of bitcoin, and the thought of being away from it all, and safe with bitcoin. I love the thought of the government who I more and more start to dislike, don't get access to what I do with my money. I pray BTC comes back to where it used to be, the beauty of bitcoin and capabilities are huge, and im so glad i'm alive to witness it all. Would a 51% attack work if most of the hashing power was with malicious hands, but most nodes (inc. non-miners) were still honest?

If this was the case, wouldn’t most nodes just refuse to enter the double-spend into the mempool? So, to attack you both need most of the hashpower AND most of all the nodes to be controlled by you. Or does the former give you the latter in the current circumstance? Submitted October 30, 2022 at 04:36PM by Leading-Fail-7263 https://ift.tt/xvMt9Ci

I hodl but the argument about average housing cost surpassing wage growth is really not the great argument. If you build a house the way people used to build in 1930s, you can probably build it at one's average annual household income or at a small multiple.

Bitcoin distribution trend makes it suitable to become a world’s currency

Consider the inherent characters of fiat and Bitcoin: - Fiat starts distributed, then over time, concentrates around the entities that are close to the source of printing and lending. Fiat world already concentrates more than half of all value on 1% of people. These 1% of people will never want the system to change and currently have the political, military power and media power to keep this system going. - Bitcoin starts concentrated, but distributes over time, the distribution at this exact moment is not “ideal” in many people’s view. However, on its way to become ever more distributed, it offers billions of “fucked” people in the fiat world a choice to “opt-in” to a safe financial place where their wealth is much better protected. I look forward to seeing Bitcoin concentration lowering after every 4 years, make no mistake, this won’t be overnight, just as the world that maxis envision: gradually, then suddenly. destroying bitcoin

Given all the bitcoin network stands at 14k nodes, and they are all open locations, is it possible that governments could band together and cooperatively find and destroy all the nodes on the network, and therefore destroy bitcoin? Today I got paid in Bitcoin for the first time and I feel great about it.

There's this colleague of mine who told me they have some Bitcoin while we were having a conversation during a coffee break. They had their Bitcoin on one of the well known exchanges and I explained them that Bitcoin on an exchange is the equivalent of fiat currency in a bank account. The usual "not your keys, not your coins", you know the drill. Surprisingly, they knew that very well but they had been postponing the withdrawal because they were afraid that something could go wrong as they are way far from being a tech savvy person and easily scared to do anything that is not sending a message via WhatsApp or checking their emails. I offered to help but we didn't really manage to schedule a day and time to do this for various reasons up until last week. This colleague came to my desk asking for help with some IT issues related to their company laptop and told me that they are going to leave the company in January to focus on a different career path as a freelancer.

Bitcoin is designed for separation of money and state

Just like before w/ separation of church and state. We now have merger of corporation and state. The only way to break free is through UNREGULATED Bitcoin. Don't be so short sighted. Lowered interest rates and regulation will make you fiat. Is that why you're in this? B/c that fiat will eventually turn to fucking dust whilst you're at the mercy of entities that tell you when and how you can spend your precious CBDC's. Unregulated Bitcoin will SMASH the corrupt system to the point where there will be no need to return to fiat. Submitted October 23, 2022 at 07:36PM by scottonfire https://ift.tt/Z6j2ofu

The hard truth

The global economy is heading towards the worst recession/ depression since the early 1900s. Cryptocurrency right now is the riskiest asset to have. I know a lot of people think that this will be a “mild recession” but all of the facts point otherwise. Crypto will be the first thing that people dump once everybody realizes what’s really going on. I Hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but there’s a LOT more room to fall. I’m all for bitcoin and Blockchain technology, I’ve been in the space since 2017, been through multiple bear markets, and a recessions, and I honestly believe that this will be the worst one of our lifetime. Don’t hold on in hopes for crypto repeating previous chart patterns, because it has never been put against the type of test like the one we’re about to face. Save your capital and buy when there’s actual blood in the streets. Down vote this post IDGAF, but all I see is Hopium and delusion from 99% of people. Trust your gut and Look at the facts. The dollar is surging compared to other currencies AND bitcoin.

I’m not an economist, but as an American it feels really weird for Bitcoin to be dropping in value at a time when the dollar is being diluted through massive inflation. What I think I figured out today, is that because Bitcoin is a global currency, and because the global economy is horrible at the moment, people around the globe are selling Bitcoin to survive. That’s the major driver; not fear of Bitcoin being a bad investment. They just need cash right now. Now that sell off may have triggered some fear as the price dipped, but this makes me believe that it could come back really strong and really fast as the global economy stabilizes. Especially when combined with the massive inflation of the dollar. Thoughts? Submitted October 19, 2022 at 02:47AM by RobKAdventureDad https://ift.tt/yeFXnJt

Why is the argument often brought up that people will not want to pay for coffee with BTC, because they expect its price to appreciate?

I don't get it. Let's say a cup of coffee is $3. That's 15675 sats today. What difference to your future wealth potential does it make if you pay with sats or dollars? If you pay with sats, you have less BTC and will miss out on the gains from its future appreciation. But if you pay with dollars, you have $3 less to invest in BTC and benefit from its future appreciation. If spending BTC on coffee is stupid, so is spending dollars on coffee, because every dollar spent on coffee is a dollar not invested in BTC. A more interesting argument to make would be: in a world where Bitcoin exists, why would anyone buy a cup of coffee and NOT invest the same amount in BTC? The short answer: the existence of a store of value like Bitcoin can lower people's time preference and make them consume less. Still, they will continue to buy coffee, because, well, they like coffee. That, however, has nothing to do with the form of payment used. If you've already decided to cough up

My journey to start understanding Bitcoin

At first, I thought in order to understand bitcoin, I needed to understand blockchain, hash rate, complicated mathematical problems. Turned out, the thing that taught me the most about Bitcoin is my further understanding of the phrase “My money in the bank”* - Digging a little deeper I realised it’s not in the bank - Then I realised it’s not my money - Then I realised it’s not even money *I got this analogy from a twitter post, I couldn’t find the post again to give the original author credit but this journey really was what opened my eyes to Bitcoin Submitted October 18, 2022 at 12:39AM by JunoKat https://ift.tt/jxIkhCy

Hi guys, just posting this to keep the tradition! Hope you are doing good. As I always do, this is my update of the stats here in Venezuela (Venezuelan living here). Nothing excitng this week, 1 BTC less than last week. So monthly average is around 120 BTC. These stats are only for LocalBitcoin (because they make them public), other exchanges are Binance, Airtm and Reserve. Binance is king with P2P even with Bolivares! One BTC trades at 167,000 Bs. (Bolivares), remember that since 2007, 14 zeroes have been removed from the currency by law. Monthly minimum wage still under 16 USD and average around 100 USD. Crypto has been used for years so people would exchange their Bolivares as soon as possible! Some people use them to send remittances to their families here and also people mining (house electricity is free, here mining with GPU is still profitable hahaha). https://www.reuters.com/technology/venezuelas-economy-regresses-crypto-fills-gaps-2021-06-22/ https://en.wikipedia.org/

I need some help with cold storage!

Hi everyone! I plan to set up a cold storage wallet and I would like to hear your opinion if described method is safe enough. I have an old phone which I would use to download blue wallet, disconnect it from Wi-Fi, turn of my Wi-Fi router, generate wallet, write down seed phrase and import my public address to my new phone for watch only wallet. After that destroy my old phone and store the seed phrases. I’d use this wallet as my vault, only to store bitcoin. So only depositing, no other transactions whatsoever. Then when and if time comes to withdraw I’ll import the seed phrase and withdraw. Is this considered safe enough? This would be my retirement wallet so I don’t plan on using it for a long time. Thanks! Submitted October 16, 2022 at 03:20PM by marko0062 https://ift.tt/cXftOZU

Failed at buying Nuts at the Fair with Bitcoin, Disheartening

Every year at the NC State Fair, there is a nut seller who proudly displays Bitcoin Accepted sign. The only one, mind you, of 200+ vendors at the fair. Every year I make it a point to spend my most prized physical possession on random nuts at this tent. My kids, who were born shortly after I discovered Bitcoin, were there with me also. I am raising them to be Bitcoiners and these moments are important for that purpose. Selections are made. Time to pay. I got the Mycelium wallet on my trusty Oneplus 6 at the ready for a lightning transaction. Upon hearing my Bitcoin payment selection the guy manning the register looks puzzingly at the crudely arranged payment system that resembles an Ipad with some sort of card reader attachment (not Square). He throws a question to a lady at the back who comes up to help. She can't figure it out after flailing at the screen for a couple minutes and gets on the phone. She calls somebody (the owner presumably) and they get her to a screen that show

I just exited a country with a million dollars worth of Bitcoin.

So many people just get stuck on the fact that bitcoin is intangible. But I say thats a good thing. Just like you cant hold what you cant see, you cant confiscate what you cant see either. I got on a flight with my seedphrase on me and there was absolutely no way anyone couldve known about my bitcoin. There isnt a single asset that couldve let me do this freely. Sure there are shitcoins and stablecoins. Other than them being centralized, they arent even built to be money. They are all promises or straightup monopoly money. My conviction about bitcoin is higher than ever and even if people dont like bitcoin now, they will surely need it as some point in their life. And it might be too late then. Ill continue to buy all the bitcoin that the paper hands sell to me. P.S : This is a throwaway account. Youll have to do a "trust me bro" on this story. Sorry. Can we stop stacking the chips so high against us?

Every time I see something about BTC replacing big banks or USD, or curing all our energy problems any time soon I just want to smh a little. This is why people laugh at us and so many people have this comical internet money type of perception to this insanely disruptive tech. The reality is BTC can play a huge role in the way mankind transfers and holds value but its not replacing USD any time soon. I don't need to go over the properties, I've read Bitcoin Standard etc. and undeniably BTC is not going anywhere and will continue to click for people but BTC needs to coexist with other financial vehicles first. If we keep claiming it as this magic money that will replace everything else it just sets us up for failure imo. Let people believe it on their own by educating them on reasonable attributes Instead if "BTC will replace USD", I like to say it can't be debased like USD and cant be confiscated. You arent forced to use it and the people who chose to only do so

Brazilians, the time to adopt Bitcoin is now. RIGHT NOW.

First of all, I’m Brazilian. Summing up the situation, Brazil is currently going through the period of presidential elections, and is in the second round, where two candidates are running for president. Maybe you've already seen one of the two somewhere, one of them is Jair Bolsonaro, and the other is Luiz Inácio (known as “Lula”). I will not go into details about Jair Bolsonaro, he is a candidate with international support for Trump and avowedly on the “right side”, he has served as president for the last four years. The problem is about the other candidate, Lula, who is winning in total number of votes. Everything indicates that, in fact, he will become president of Brazil. His party ruled the country for many years before Jair Bolsonaro, and ignoring all the corruption scandals, it has always been a party turned to a socialist side, benefiting the poorest with financial assistance and other means. The government of Jair Bolsonaro, as much as it had its flaws, was always more f

I mean, how can you sleep with that ? By the way, Alex Mashinsky barely just lost 15000$ https://celsiusnetworth.com/Alexander-Mashinsky.htm Very, very weird. Is it legal in the US to open for example a restaurant that can only accept Bitcoin as payment?

My uncle has a bakery and he initiated this question what if we accept both cash and crypto? Then this question came into my mind what if we "only" accept Bitcoin? I remember a long time ago a person told me as a fact that businesses in the US can not deny cash/card payments but I might misunderstand. I am sure someone has asked this type of question before but I just wanted to also know more details about which law exactly will be violated if such a thing is illegal. What BTC Did: Is BTC Privacy Possible With This New Tech?

What Bitcoin Did is a podcast hosted by Peter McCormack , and in this episode he is joined by Nicholas Gregory , the CEO of Commerce Block , the company behind Mercury Wallet . They discuss how statechains can enable privacy, how to onboard BTC Lightning users, and look at the interface of Mercury Wallet. Read our notes below to learn more. Background In the past, he worked as a TradFi developer for banks. In 2012 started to get into BTC. Went full-time around 2016. Statechains on Mercury Wallet Mercury Wallet produces statecoins in which BTC can be put in and then transferred. An address with two private keys is created, where one private key is with the user and one with the recipient. To transfer it to another wallet, the recipient should create a statecoin address in Mercury. There is cooperation between the sender and statechain server to tweak the sender’s private key and generate a new private key for the recipient. With the two private keys, you’re creating one

PSA: Get your Bitcoin off any exchange supporting "BSV" due to insolvency risk

As many are aware, the infamous faketoshi scammer Craig Wright has been on a campaign to use harassment, intimidation, barratry, and fraud to attempt to steal some 1.1M coins that belong to Satoshi and others. In furtherance of this scheme his company just published code for directing the seizure of third party coins in the BSV blockchain. BSV is a scammy bitcoin knockoff that is proprietary software controlled exclusive by Wright and his agents. Users of BSV are only permitted to run the software he approves so they're able to foist their coin stealing code onto their users which would be impossible for legitimate cryptocurrencies. Because of this I believe any user of the BSV altcoin is in serious risk of exposure to network consensus instability or outright having their assets frozen or stolen out from under them. This would be of no direct relevance to Bitcoin users except some Bitcoin exchanges support BSV and so far whenever an exchange has gone insolvent they've pool

I just poured all my spare cash into bitcoin. Wish me luck.

I like to make my calls public. I just put all my spare cash into bitcoin and will continue to do so as long as it stays below 20k. It’s money I can afford to lose, but obviously I don’t want to lose it. It is enough for a house deposit. Stock market looks like shit. Interest rates will smash real estate. Bitcoin is the only place I see with room for growth at the moment. We are a long way from the top, it makes sense to me. Wish me luck comrades. All centralized exchanges are vulnerable to a bank block

All centralized exchanges are vulnerable to having their bank accounts blocked by regulators or simply because of bank compliance and risk departments arbitrarily deciding that they are "high risk". Decentralized exchanges (DEX) like Bisq, P2P exchanges like Paxful and other decentralized ways to buy and sell Bitcoin do not have this problem. Don't keep your Bitcoin on exchanges! Buy and sell Bitcoin in a decentralized way! Submitted October 02, 2022 at 05:46PM by flix2 https://ift.tt/NXTkPSp

Who else invests in Bitcoin not because you like it, but because there isn't anything really better?

Seriously! Let's look at the alternatives: Crypto not named Bitcoin (shitcoins): Too centralized/captured, or they're a less used/ill conceived version of Bitcoin itself but worse, or they track the $ which is basically fiat. Shares of publicly traded companies (stocks): The management team controls the issuance and buybacks, the prices go up when the central bank lowers rates, and down when the central bank increases rates. What if the management teams mismanages it or commits fraud. Also they can be taxed by government and regulated to hell and back. Corporate Bonds: Same issues with management team as with stocks. Also controllable by the central bank as they will go up when interest rates decrease and vice versa. No guarantee they will pay higher interest than inflation, and if the corporation goes bankrupt you lose. And if they are TBTF and go bankrupt, you still lose (see automaker bailouts of 2008). Government Bonds: These are by far the most controlled investment b
