My wife is my best market indicator

Been in the space since 2017. Lost a lot of cash then started learning. Hodl is the way my friends. Interestingly my wife seems to be the best indicator of the market to the general public. Whenever she asks me 'how's the bitcoin doing?' I answer "why?" And she's like 'elon something,' or 'i read its up, what's it worth?' I know its time to expect a dip. Conversely when she says ' I heard it crashed again, should have sold ' I know its time to buy. Its hilarious. Its like having public sentiment in my house. Bitcoin blessed 💯

I simply do not feel comfortable talking to anyone I know about this nor do I think anyone I know could relate. My hope is someone here understands. This recent crypto correction has put me near 30% off the top of my portfolio... and this is by far the most money I’ve ever had in my life. And what I can’t believe is that I can still fall asleep at night and make it to the gym in the morning. How am I numb to my portfolio swinging more money than I’ve made in my entire life.... in a matter of a couple days. I feel blessed to say the least. 🙏 Submitted March 01, 2021 at 01:12AM by Geee-Bee https://ift.tt/2MwWUpu

Only 83 BTC were traded last week in Venezuela using LocalBitcoin (lowest since July 2016). That amount was 7,299,000,000,000 Bs. (Venezuelan currency). Right now one BTC reached 84,000,000,000 Bs. Monthly minimim wage at 1.25 USD.

Hi guys happy hodling and trading! Hope you are doing ok. As I always explain, I'm a Venezuelan "living" here. Lower volume in BTC but still around 5-6 million USD weekly, that is way, it is constant in USD not BTC. So many years since we are under 100 BTC weekly, I think some people that use LocalBitcoin are moving to Binance, that is just my explanation without any proof. People that usually trade are mostly miners, people sending remittances and store owners getting rid of their bolivares and even the goverment/military as well. Considering the low minimum wage, forget that people using crypto, it is impossible for them. If you want to know something ask me anything. Here the economy is a mess, so many poor people and a lot of people surviving! I have gotten even puntual work from some redditors since I started posting here, what a great community. And MOONS (cryptocurrency subreddit), wow, have helped me a lot (Sadly I have to cash out). Sources: https://www.u

Any other Canadians buying bitcoin because there is no alternatives?

Canadian home prices have 3x since 2006. In markets with jobs for young people houses have more than 5x in that time. Anytime asset prices in Canada are going to fall the Bank of Canada is ready to step in and lower the short term interest rate and purchase long term bonds to suppress the long term yield. Despite low unemployment, low inflation and a booming economy they wouldn't even raise rates past 1.75% in 2018/2019. This has been great for people born before 1990 as they can use their assets to get loans to purchase more assets while the debt is inflated away by the Bank of Canada. But unfortunately for people born after they have not had the same opportunity to enter the asset market because wages haven't kept up with asset inflation let alone CPI. The Bank of Canada has cheated an entire generation. They expect us to now spend 45% of our income on housing to give boomers a golden parachute to retirement. Even as rates rise they will just implement yield curve control

Shower thought: You don‘t sell BTC, you just convert it to a weaker currency.

People think ‚oh i‘ve made profit, imma sell‘. You are not selling, you are most likely converting from a limited currency to a currency thats being printed on the day. It‘s like profiting on a Argentine Peso -> USD Forex trade. No point converting back to Peso‘s, just hold the USD it‘s much stronger. Today I did for my brother something that nobody did for me

So today is my brother's 13th birthday. He is pretty tech savvy and he looks up to me a lot so I did what someone never did for me on my 13th birthday.I bought him $50 worth of BTC and gave him his very first bitcoin address.Considering I am now 21,if someone bought me this amount in 2013 and taught me what bitcoin and crypto is all about,I would now be in the 5-digit mark, just from that $50 alone. So for anyone out there with younger relatives, give them the gift of bitcoin. They will definitely appreciate it sooner or later. The months and years ahead will be so interesting

The economic landscape in the United States and around the World is currently in a fascinating place, and it seems as if a perfect storm is brewing: Massive economic growth potential driven by tech acceleration Record government money printing and stimulus Loose monetary policy High unemployment concentrated in the underserved Record high asset prices Anticipated inflation Accelerated information sharing A widening gap in innovation between government and private industry Regulation that simply can't keep up or doesn't make sense I have no idea what will happen next. I have no idea where Bitcoin fits into all of this. We are living in one of the most interesting times in human history, and the story still has many chapters to go. STOP DEFENDING BILL GATES

I am tired of people defending Bill Gates and saying things like, "Microsoft uses open source development and accepts crypto" or "He is looking out for small investors by warning them against volatility". Microsoft is adopting these things because their attacks against them failed. Where was Bill when small investors were getting wrecked in the stock market or losing their pensions? Where was his love for open source when Microsoft attacked open source licenses? Let's take a look at the history of Bill Gates and Microsoft regarding open source and crypto: 1998 United States v. Microsoft was a set of civil actions filed against Microsoft Corporation by the United States Department of Justice and 20 U.S. states. The plaintiffs alleged that Microsoft abused monopoly power in its handling of operating system sales and web browser sales. Microsoft won their right to continue breaking the law. 1998 leaked internal Microsoft documents state the following "OSS

When did bitcoin become about simping for billionaires?

Andreas Antonopoulos brought this up in a recent podcast. Bitcoin's narrative has shifted a lot from banking the un-banked, and replacing old corrupt institutions. Now, the community is simping for these same corrupt institutions, as soon as they started pumping the price. I can guarantee, these institutions do not care about Bitcoin's censorship resistance, decentralization, or about banking the un-banked. They've just bought Bitcoin, then created hype so that their own investments can go up. These institutions will not support changes that improve privacy, as that makes it harder for regulators. They will try to "normalize" Bitcoin into traditional systems. For example, Michael Saylor has said that Bitcoin isn't meant to be used as a currency, he said its just a store of value and a gold replacement. He's trying to make it fit into traditional systems. So called "normalization of Bitcoin" is bad. People are trying to make it fit into the sa

To the man at the grocery store...

Saw an elderly man (maybe 65-75) today at the grocery store in a Bitcoin shirt. Didn’t say anything the first time I saw him but told my wife and was like “adoption, that man gets it”. Later seeing him at the checkout, I told him I love the shirt and he replied “keep stacking”. That’s why I’m a believer in Bitcoin bc if the older generation is starting to get on board and adapting then we have even more growth in our future, so from the guy at the store, Keep stacking. Don't even tell your parents you have bitcoin

I have a very good relationship with my parents, but they're a bit nosy especially when it comes to finances. I told them about a small amount I had in bitcoin many years ago, but now that it's in the five figures they have gone and told other people, and pressure me every single phone call to sell. It's commonly repeated here to not tell anyone you have bitcoin, but you can trust your parents, right? Maybe you can, but their knowing will possibly change the dynamic of the relationship such that you no longer enjoy talking to them. Just don't risk it. Keep it secret. Spouses and Bitcoin

I see a number of posts on here about people hiding bitcoin purchases from their spouse (married significant other). Or how people are upsetting their spouses with their bitcoin purchases. This is not a bitcoin issue. This a marriage issue. Take the time to work an intentional plan with your spouse. Set goals. Make a monthly budget. And decide what to do with your money together. Your financial life is much more than just bitcoin. And you and your spouse should be working as a team. If you disagree on allocation into bitcoin, talk about it. Set a plan where you achieve your financial goals together, and teach your spouse how bitcoin might be part of that. And be open minded enough to understand that your spouse has goals that are more than just stacking sats. Submitted February 27, 2021 at 06:32AM by byb9069 https://ift.tt/3uEGYmc

Why I don't care about the volatility

1) I did my homework...I know where this is going, so day to day or even month to month values mean next to nothing to me. I have literally gone months without even looking at the current value. In 2018 I had no clue it had dipped below 4k. 2) This was always a long play for me...buy and hold...for years...not weeks or months. This isn't a get rich quick game for me...that being said I will likely be able to retire a few years early because of it. 3) Bitcoin isn't going to zero at this stage. If you don't know why that's true, then you don't understand network effects and Metcalfe's law. If it's not going to zero its going to go a LOT higher. 4) It's not going to get banned in the US. It will get regulated. Thats a good thing. That will bring in even more institutional investors. Regulation means "legitimacy". 5) Central bank digital currencies are coming. They will have no negative impact on BTC...they will likely drive it even higher by

To everyone panic selling their BTC

You’re gonna feel really stupid in about a week when BTC hits 60k and escapes these price levels forever. We’re in the middle of a bull market with price targets of $150k+ literally by EOY. Enjoy the discount you’ve been asking and wishing for. Stop spreading FUD just because you’re scared and have been into crypto less than 2 weeks. If you actually understand what you’re buying, you’ll realize the WORST play is to sell. End rant. Submitted February 23, 2021 at 10:22PM by slidingdoor5 https://ift.tt/37Gqd0e

This is why I like bitcoin (and have HODLed since 2011)

There's a lot of new-blood coming to this subreddit in light of recent events and so I wanted to write a quick post explaining a bit about how bitcoin works, in hopes that more of you might understand why we're so excited about Bitcoin! Most of the mainstream media just talks about the price and investing. Bitcoin is a great opportunity to invest, of course! We're still quite early in the adoption of this fantastic technology and it's bound to grow a great deal over the coming years, in my opinion at least. But even beyond that, bitcoin is designed to appreciate over time. It is deflationary by design and so holding onto your bitcoins will always be a smart investment. However, bitcoin is so much more than an investment tool! Bitcoin was the culmination of decades of research into cryptography and economics. The white paper is a beautifully succinct solution to a problem that had existed in all previous attempts at an electronic cash system. The double-spend problem

Using Bitcoin to Escape my Shitty Country Currency

I live in a third world country, as many of us. Started working a couple of months ago, and I've been putting a bit of my almost worthless salary in bitcoin. If bitcoin does change the top 1% of wealth just wanted to share a few thoughts

Those that mined and invested in the early days (dont id yourself please) you are potentially going to be in the 1 percent if btc still goes up. You have most likely experienced not being im the top echelon and if you do i wish you the best. The only thing i ask is that you dont forget how things were and try to help the community and those around you. Right now wealth is causing fights, poverty, and just a lot of trauma. A lot of these people can’t even begin to understand that they are privileged but i hope that if you attain that spot you can. In addition, please educate your kids on what this privilege is so that we dont get rich people who do the absolute minimum and charge the poor till they are evicted. I’m sorry if this isn’t my place to talk, i just see this change in power as an opportunity to really change the world for the better, to really end world hunger, to bring back privacy, and to put all people first, not just the 1%. By all means get your yachts and huge house

Andreas Antonopoulos explaining Bitcoin in 2013 (May 18th) at The Bitcoin Conference in San Jose, to an empty room. Can you imagine giving this talk to an empty auditorium with a straight face like this? So humiliating but he believed so strongly. He did this for years and deserve our gratitude.

Hello. I just wanna share since people have been sharing their little victories. I'm a 19yo college student in a 3rd world country, so 0.01 is a pretty big deal for me. I've had BTC for about 3 years now, but I never really held it since I used to accept it as a form of payment for an online service, and would regularly convert it. I regret that! Now that I know better, I'm going to be in it for the long run. For my new years resolution, I promised myself that I would use the money I spend on vape to buy BTC instead, but when you have an addiction it's not really easy. My half arse working out: When bitcoin reached 1 trillion dollars a bitcoin cost around £37,124. gold's market cap is currently at 11.3 trillion dollars. I'm quitting smoking and buying Bitcoin every week with what I would've spent on cigarettes.

I tried this a while ago, though I was throwing the money at options on robinhood, just to give myself something to do. Needless to say, it didn't work out. I blew a bunch of money and started smoking again just a few months later. Now, though, I feel like it's different. I'm honestly looking for a way to give myself a comfortable future. I'm a felon bartender with a useless degree, and the pittance of a contribution to my 401k my paychecks provide is just mathematically insignificant. What's clear to me is that I'm perfectly happy literally burning my money, so I shouldn't have any trouble spending the same amount on something with real appreciating value -- my future well-being . And Bitcoin, of course. Wish me luck. Submitted February 21, 2021 at 05:59AM by hippoctopocalypse https://ift.tt/3se9Wr4

Bitcoin in a 3rd world country

Hi guys, I'm really new to Bitcoin. I'm from Honduras and I put up all my savings to buy Bitcoin recently in Feb, 2nd. I really don't know why I did it but I thought it was a good investment because here in my country keeping your money in the bank is useless (like 1% annual interest rate) and is not convenient to keep large amounts of cash due to the high crime rates. So I put up all my savings, even convinced my mom and family to buy and they did it!!. And to my surprise in less than 1 month it went from 37K to 56K USD. This is mind boggling and a life changing experience for me and my family. Maybe I'm dreaming but if it goes up even more I'll be able to buy a house or start some business here. I really see now that BTC is the future, sadly not every one I talk about BTC understands or trusts it. Thank you for this awesome community. I'm a Hodler from 2011 and have some words for newbies

I have literally been holding these coins for 10 years 10 fvvvking years. Do you know the emotional toll it puts on a person to hold through three bear markets!? DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE COST??????? For new bitcoiners & pre-coiners: Don't feel bad for not understanding bitcoin immediately, it takes a long time. You're not late. Everyone including myself felt late. It is still e-a-r-l-y. HINDSIGHT IS 20/20. The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now. Seize the day and it's time to go all in. This asset is now de-risked and a 10000000 times better buy now than back in 2011 from a risk adjusted perspective. I've watched this god damn internet project grow from literally being mocked 24/7 including by holders and now it's being adopted as a treasury reserve asset by Publicly listed companies. Bitcoin ETF will change everything

My boomer parents just bought close to a full bitcoin through the new canadian bitcoin etf that started trading today. They would never have bought any if it wasn't for the etf. What a great way for everyday investors to buy bitcoin and not have to worry about exchange fees, wallets, keys, custody, etc. Not only for retail investors but also companies, pension funds etc. The fact that people can now hold it long term in tax saving accounts and retirement plans is amazing and will truly change everything. In fact, any new buys will probably be through the etf personally. I know a lot of people here lean to the libertarian side (myself included) and will state, "not your keys, not your coins", but honestly, 99% of people are going to buy to hedge against inflation and invest in this new finance instrument and aren't trying to screw central banks. Just my 2 sats, once a bitcoin etf opens in the US, you will want to make sure you bought some before that happens. S

I sold 10,000 World Of Warcraft gold for 5 bitcoin in 2012

I logged into wow for the first time in years on Monday. The first message was from my old guild master. He welcomed me back, gave me some help getting up to speed, ect. Then he says man if you saved those bitcoins I traded you for gold the would be worth thousands. I had forgotten that I had done this deal. I immediately started looking for my wallet. And I found it. Along with a Google doc with the login info. And there they were! So, I call my tax guy he says he can help me with that end. I was able to sell them fast. And now i am looking for a house as soon as the funds are in my bank account. Also nothing is stored on any cloud anymore. Submitted February 19, 2021 at 04:43AM by salajomo https://ift.tt/2Nzkzpv

How Bitcoin saved my life.

I posted this on another subreddit, and its gotten a lot of response. Just thought I'd share it here so newcomers can see how I used DCA strategy to invest in Bitcoin monthly over the last 8 years. I'm a taxi driver in a European city and in December 2012 I picked up an American customer who wanted to go to the airport. The traffic was chaotic and what would usually be a 30 min journey, took approx 90 min. He was cool with it though, as he had plenty of time for his flight. We had a really good chat, he told me about BTC and how even if I didn't want to put money into it, it was important to know what it was. Needless to say, I was intrigued, and a bit confused. Over the next ten days or so, I read as much online as I could and decided there and then that I would quit my 15 cigarettes a day habit and put the money I would have spent otherwise into BTC. I made my first purchase of BTC on Jan 1st, 2013. Every month for the last 8 years, I have bought €250 of BTC. I

To those asking if you should buy now...

If you’re asking if you should buy now you’re not going to buy anyway. When price goes up you’ll say you should have bought the last time you asked and will ask again if you should buy now. You won’t. When it dips you’ll be too scared to buy because you’ll think it will dip more and you won’t buy. When it comes raging back to all time highs you will repeat this cycle. I remember reading an old r/relationships post about a woman who was furious at her husband for his "cult like" belief in bitcoin and mocked him for thinking he was "in at the ground floor". She goes off on a diatribe and mocks him every chance he gets for his "foolish" beliefs and how he spends his money on buying and holding bitcoin... she consider any bitcoin that he holds to be "lost money". I actually saved this when I read it back years ago to see one day how it would age... man talk about the worlds biggest I told you so. She had zero faith and respect in her husband. Thank you Bitcoin, I finished saving for my daughter's college tuition and she is 1.5 years old

I'm a long term hodler and in January 2020 I started a non-tax exempt brokerage account in my daughter's name to start saving for college. I did this as opposed to a 529 so I could buy GBTC since I thought it would more than offset the tax benefit. In less than 14 months I was able to save enough to pay for 4 years of tuition at a private university because of the dramatic rise in Bitcoin's price. My assumption is that I will get a 9% average return from now until she goes to college and that the cost of tuition will rise at 3%. I obviously still need to deal with paying taxes and want to build a buffer, but it is a nice milestone to hit. Submitted February 17, 2021 at 07:31PM by nonamesleft314159 https://ift.tt/2Zp7QZ5

Me telling my dad to invest in bitcoin in December 2017 😭

I remember very well how it all went. December 2017, bitcoin prices skyrocketing, me being a minor and having no money to invest, my dad clueless as a bird. 1 Bitcoin was about $15.000 back then, so i tell my dad all about Bitcoins and that the price is going up so rapidly and how it’s definitly a “safe” investment. I get him all excited and sure enough, he makes an account, we buy some bitcoin and we wait patiently while watching the price keep going up.🚀 A week goes by, all seems good. Another week goes by and the price just starts tankin’📉😭 So here i am, telling my dad not to worry and explaining that we’ll just have to hold. (Or even buy more while it’s low.) But why would he believe me when 2 weeks after i tell him to invest everything just crashes. BUT, now February 2021, my dad is still a proud and happy bitcoin holder. And i finally get to say “I told you so”. Moral of the story: HODL 🙌💎📈🚀🚀🚀 Submitted February 17, 2021 at 05:26PM by SankaStones https://ift.tt/

Lessons I have learned in the last 8 years.

Back in 2013, I saw a once in a lifetime opportunity in Bitcoin. So I wired $3000 to Mt Gox, bought at $125 at the peak of the bull market (like a sucker!). I day traded and learned exactly why you shouldn’t day trade before withdrawing what remained 1 month before Mt Gox collapsed. Then I decided to HODL, because I knew I was so far ahead of the adoption curve. Then I suffered my first bear market. I had bought at the peak and my $3000 was now worth a fraction of that, but thankfully for me I had only invested an amount that I was prepared to lose. That’s lesson #1 in investing. Later that year, the price exploded to $1000, I had suddenly made multiples of what I initially invested. But lucky for me I had a stable job and didn’t feel the need to cash out anything. I was in it for the long term and still saw an extremely asymmetric upside. I didn’t want to sell until it could make a meaningful impact on my life. The HODL mentality started to make sense. Then we went through a long

Turning Weed (my addiction) into Bitcoin

Im a 19yr old and after many years of being a stoner I’ve always thought back on how much money I’ve wasted on something ill never get back. Some might say you can’t put a price on memories but the truth is for me that I don’t remember 80% of the shit I’ve done while high. At the beginning of this pandemic I was a little happy I now had an excuse to just stay at home and smoke my weed but I quickly started to see things differently. I was now wasting away my days and gaining absolutely nothing. So around New Years I decided I wanted to take a break and just breath and see if I could do more or even be just as happy without weed. After just a few weeks I understood that all it did was make my mind foggy and take away my time. Recently I became very intrigued by crypto currencies and it boggled my mind how bulletproof Bitcoin seemed to me. I do believe it can be a major asset in the future and if not Bitcoin it self it’ll at least pave the way for the others. So I’ve decided I will n

I recall it was the time where Mt Gox was the only real exchange around and we crowded on IRC channels as well as bitcointalk.org. In 2012 I cashed out 120 bitcoins for a grand total of 1.6k usd - which will remain the worst 'investment' ever for the remainder of my life time. On another note, today I was scanning all my old wallet backups and found 0.04 bitcoin, worth about 2k USD!!! Submitted February 15, 2021 at 08:20AM by Cautious_Love9797 https://ift.tt/2LRsaiN

I have some wealthy friends that are starting to worry about having no bitcoin.

I told them about it years ago and they ignored it. This morning they asked me where I thought the quickest place they can buy from is and they were telling me how there would only ever be 21 million. I think the rich are starting to fomo. Mexico's richest man updates his Twitter bio to include Bitcoin

The third wealthiest man in Mexico, Ricardo Salinas Pliego, has updated his Twitter biography to include Bitcoin. This move has picked up a trend among high ranking investors in the cryptocurrency, including BTC whales such as Michael Saylor and  Anthony Scaramucci." Who do you think will be following in their footsteps? Will these steps promote mass adoption? Your thought?! Submitted February 14, 2021 at 09:36PM by Jenny6688 https://ift.tt/3dczPTT

It took Apple 42 years to reach a 1 trillion market cap, and just 2 years after that to get to 2. Just remember that this is an exponential curve, not a linear one. We're in for a rocky road, so hold your keys tight!

Price expectations on ARK research

So, first of all, do your own research (DYOR) and don't take this as financial advise in any way daradaradara... Yesterday I came across this report from ARK (thanks u/lavazzalove for the link), I'm invested in mutual funds with like 30% exposure to ARK ETF's so I receive the reports on my mail but haven't read it untill now. Spoiler: It's stupidly bullish. Page 37 to 50 talk about Bitcoin economic studies they did. Long story short, they say an "optimum" point for hedge fund is an exposure betwen 2.55% (minimizing volatility) to 6.55% (maximizing sharpe ratio) on Bitcoin, the risk reward ratio of it is ridicolous. Also they hipotesise on 2 possible outcoms in terms of adoption by institucions: Corporations on the S&P500: A : Every corpoation there put a 1% allocation of their cash reserve in Bitcoin B : Every corporation there put a 10% allocation of their cash reserve in Bitcoin Institucional Investors (High Net Worth Individuals,

a rant

I am in my mid 30s and have been lucky enough to see three major cycles-housing, tech, and crypto. Disclaimer-not investing advice, yada yada yada I will tell you one thing-the people I know with real money are buying bitcoin. The people will kind of real money-well, they are buying bitcoin, and trying to buy more. And the people without money but with good income-well, a lot of them are waiting to buy bitcoin. And, they will blame everyone but themselves when bitcoin goes to $200k, or they will not dollar cost average, yolo in at 55k, see a 2k drop, panic sell, etc. For the younger generation that had the guts to buy this when it crapped the bed-good for you. I wish lambos, mansions, and wealth upon you and your families. The real challenge is most people with a higher than average income think they are smart, that they can time markets, etc. It is the most ridiculous thing-but I am starting to realize it's very common. Bitcoin reminds me of housing in 2014-2015-at this poin
