Please don’t buy Bitcoin from Wirex! Wirex is a total scam please be aware of fraud

I’ve had Wirex since last October and was pretty pleased with the service as I could exchange foreign currencies with bitcoin and could use my Wirex VISA debit card literally anywhere in the world. As I slowly gained trust over the system, I have put a ton of money into my Wirex debit card (over 15000 USD) and even invested in their crowdfunding campaign. But then, this past month, all of a sudden, they’ve blocked my account miraculously and so I couldn’t get access to my funds in the card. I tried contacting customer service but there isn’t really a customer service hotline to call and they never once responded to my emails. So, I think I’ve lost 15000 USD in total. What I’ve read online (which I really should have done before) is they’re probably pulling an exit scam. Gaining good ratings through smaller accounts while blocking bigger accounts with larger $$. I’ve read other dodgy things about them. Reported this incident to the London Police and Financial Ombudsman. Hopefully, I

To all the WSB people scrolling through here for the first time. We welcome you and your diamond hands.

What GME did to hedge funds, BTC has been quietly doing to Central Banks and Governments for 10 years, they just don't know it yet. Thank you for waking up and becoming a part of the revolution, we applaud your efforts in fighting our ownership class. As you start interacting here know that we still love you, even if you aren't ready for things like a hardware wallet or private key storage yet. Some of us are just really hardcore about that. They are awesome people full of great information when you are ready to go down that road. As you get to know us you will find our hands aren't diamonds they are the collapsed star material that makes up a black hole. We use Satoshis to measure our wealth, not dollars. Telling us to hold our positions is like telling a fish to swim, we don't know anything else. Submitted January 31, 2021 at 07:04PM by RookXPY https://ift.tt/2Yv8ZOn

Why isn't anyone talking about how coinbase "accidently" disabled buy orders and tanked the price from 40k to 30k?

So the whole GME fiasco made me realize how vulnerable we all are to the whims of hedge funds and other financial institutions who rig the game in their favor. When brokerage firms disabled buy orders for meme stocks, it reminded me of when coinbase "accidently" didn't process any buy orders and tanked the price to 30k within days. This shows me that bitcoin is also susceptible to the same kind of bad actors as GME is. If hedge funds are shorting bitcoin, who's to say they won't influence bitcoin exchanges to shut down buying orders while leaving sell orders in tact? In fact, I'm starting to wonder if that "bug" in coinbase was really even a bug or intentional. I just found out hedge funds were shorting bitcoin in the billions, so maybe they were worried about the price going even further than 42k. To he honest, I find the whole GME situation frustrating. The system's corruption was exposed on Thursday and Friday, but I bet nothing will be don

Don't get me wrong, Michael Saylor and his company are the best thing to happen to Bitcoin in a long time. They did what those like myself who've been in this space for nearly a decade now did not expect to happen for at least another 5 years at best. Specifically, making Bitcoin their main treasury reserve asset. This is going to lead an example that will encourage other businesses to do the same. This is good for Bitcoin, but for all the little guys hype buying everything else right now but Bitcoin? It's very bad for them. They will miss the boat having sunk their fortunes into everything else they could have, while the largest rocket ship of their lifetime was just fueling up to take off. I know those of you who have been here as long as me often think "Screw the idiots then if they're too dumb to buy Bitcoin at these prices", or "People pay the price they deserve". But we came to Bitcoin because we know it is a better financial system, and p

To all the new comers, and the legends, get your coins OFF of exchanges! The name of the game is HODL! Until every exchange is publicly verifiable to be audited to 100% reserve requirements, not only is the risk too high, but the market manipulation opportunity in their hand is too high. Bitcoin’s value proposition has MANY aspects, mainly being better than every money on Earth in every aspect of money, but the most crucial element is the 21 million unwavering supply limit. Take your money away from them! Don’t let them have it! It is not safe in their hands! I like the coin. Submitted January 30, 2021 at 07:32PM by callebbb https://ift.tt/3r45RFj

Why Bitcoin remains and will remain the most valuable crypto currency.

With new comers into this space everyday, there's a lot to learn. One of the common questions is why is Bitcoin the most popular cryptocurrency? What gives it value over others despite the fees and speed? I started typing this as a reply and then realised it probably should be its own post. There are many factors why Bitcoin remains popular despite the competition, some more obvious than others. First. Being the first means it has the strongest network effect. The Bitcoin name is on the news regularly, this is free marketing and has become widely known. Any newer crypto will have a hard time to compete for this air time. Solid fundamentals. The other networks are either under used, hence why fees are low. Or the claims made by other networks regarding improvements over Bitcoin come at a compromise of one or more of Bitcoin's strengths. Decentralisation. No company or people are in charge of Bitcoin so it can't be sued or taken down). And the rules can't chan

[PSA] Robinhood Insolvency Dangers

I posted this over at r/wallstreebets as well. Robinhood appears to be on the verge of insolvency based on a few data points: To continue operating, it drew on a line of credit from six banks amounting to between $500 million and $600 million They had to raise an emergency $1 billion from investors today. They stopped allowing users to buy GME and other meme stonks for a full day yesterday. They have severely limited or blocked 50+ stocks , including lots of non meme stonks. More are likely. They are not allowing people to exercise their options, instead they are automatically selling them at a price of their choosing . There appears to be a bank run on Robinhood as people are fed up with the restrictions, this is a negative feedback loop. If Robinhood goes under the SEC will freeze all the accounts. The SIPC protects up to $500k in accounts. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, IF YOU HAVE CRYPTOCURRENCIES AT ROBINHOOD, IT APPEARS YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING! I am not bullshitting. L

After GME I finally understand Bitcoin

The /r/wallstreetbets GME retail investors vs the 0.1% situation has lead me to a place of clarity. The game is rigged, and the owners of the system will react with haste and break any laws they must to protect their cartel. For those not following the event - Retail investors, realised the shares of GME and some other companies were heavily shorted and in short supply, so they started buying in the hope of forcing a short squeeze (whereby the holder of the shorts will then have to buy more stock to cover their shorts, sending the price through the roof, an example is Volkswagen [VW] in the 2000's). This is perfectly legal. - the plan worked, GME went from $2 to $470 in a short space of time. - Melvin Capital, a Hedge fund took a massive (likely $6 billion) short position in GME and faced closure if the bet went against them, they were losing money at a fast rate and got a bail out last week by other wall street Hedge funds. - Melvin Capital then went on CNBC and other networ

FUCK YOU. I hope that the class action lawsuit is so nasty that multiple hedge funds declare bankruptcy and personal assets are seized — because, to be clear, the effort by shorting GME 140% of the shares was to put 50,000 people out of work in the middle of a pandemic by shutting the business. It feels personal. It should fucking hurt, really hurt, the perpetrators. “Retail investor” is such a demeaning phrase — as opposed to “Inside trader?” Suck a fat 🍆. Look, I’m writing this in Bitcoin chat not because BTC is incredibly equal amongst its owners (it clearly isn’t), but it Absolutely is an alternative. We need to prepare ourselves for the day big banks try to lock Bitcoin investors out, like they did with $GME and others

The day we are all waiting for when mass adoption of BTC and altcoins is coming. These past weeks have shown the faults of our financial system to the masses. However, it has also shown the lengths the banks will go to in an effort to lock out unsophisticated investors. I urge you all to move the majority of your crypto to cold storage or at least secure wallets. The day will come when the banks lock crypto investors out of popular apps like Robinhood and perhaps even Coinbase, just as they shut GME and AMC investors out today. Don’t get caught unprepared when the day comes TLDR: own your own keys, the institutions have shown they will screw you if you don’t Submitted January 28, 2021 at 09:29PM by ergs_should_float https://ift.tt/3ad8FJx

This is good for Bitcoin

Restriction of a free market trading will be good for Bitcoin short term. It's centralized control of a trading market based on a fiat currency supported by debt. What we are seeing today is not a free market. The game is clearly rigged. And it's being advertised more then ever. This will be good for Bitcoin short term. You can't shut down restrict a decentralized market. Long term Bitcoin is still good, that continues to be unchanged. That's all. Why You Must Buy Bitcoin Now More Than Ever

Let me start of by saying this is not at all driven by technicals. In fact, the underlying properties of bitcoin, its potential, and the way our society/economy is doing is what created this. All of this going on with WSB and Gamestop just makes my conviction on bitcoin stronger. People are starting to revolt seeing that the stock market has always been manipulated by hedge funds/institutional investors. Now that retail investors are joining in, they want to move the field posts around to benefit their positions. I'm not saying the market is in a bubble, but valuations and returns have been through the roof the last few years. Quantitative easing and all of the stimulus has been destroying the dollar and propping up our market. Wall Street doesn't care making money at the expense of retail investors and the narrative is starting to turn. The currency for all of this has been the dollar which will continue to suffer as all of this occurs. The perfect mix of a pandemic, money

There are way too many bullish developments coming soon to let go. To name a few: PayPal is about to open Bitcoin purchases to their millions of users and merchants (settled in fiat) Michael "Mega-Chad" Saylor is hosting a conference to share their playbook with institutional investors early Feb. A wall of institutional money might very well be coming later this year. Janet Yellen clarified her views as to Bitcoin during her confirmation in a positive way. Yeah, regulations are actually a positive for large institutions, who hate regulatory uncertainty over anything else. The new SEC chairman is pro-Bitcoin. The rumored new head of the CFTC is known to be crypto-sophisticated too. If that's not bullish, I don't know what is. The S2F model, which has an historical accuracy of 95% suggests a major bull run is due this year. Central banks around the globe are printing money like there's no tomorrow. The truth about earning interest on your Bitcoin

I just realized this, Yeah many of you must already know and think this is obvious, but I've never seen anyone talk about this so I'll post It anyway. The truth is the bitcoin you put in a savings account is being loaned and being used by short sellers, there is no other use for borrowing Bitcoin with a collateral other than shorting It. So if you think that by holding your Bitcoin in an exchange savings account you are doing your job as a holder, think again. It is quite obvious when you think about It, your Bitcoin is being actively used by short sellers to short Bitcoin, in the best case scenario you are just making their loans cheaper. So If you are a true Bitcoin maximalist and believer, you will take all your Bitcoin out of any exchange or lending platform. Submitted January 27, 2021 at 06:51PM by AtlasNCz https://ift.tt/3aarrRM

How I spent 1.3 Million dollars on A Pizza 🍕for a friend.

So I was told I needed to post this story on Reddit. So here you go when Bitcoin was just over a dollar, ($1.13) I played an Online game With a friend who lived in Norway, the game was EVE online. We had been playing that game since 2004, and one day me and my roommate who also played EVE ordered pizza one day after work, and our Friend, will Call Him "Griff" he Wanted one too. So me and my roommate pitched in to buy him a pizza as we just got paid and felt generous, but it was hard to do a currency exchange with no fees and without waiting, so I found a website that sold Bitcoin, but minimum was 100, a total of 113$, and then convert BTC into viking bucks, then into intercontinental space pizza 🍕... And it ended up costing around 43 Bitcoins to accomplish that.. so in total. 43btc x $32.000 = $1,376,000 😅😅 But Here is the kick in the teeth for the one time use of the bitcoin purchase.. I never used the other 67 Bitcoin ... that's sitting in a wallet on some website

Don't be the person who doesn't see the iceberg

You are probably checking the bitcoin price, sweating. Maybe you bought this month and are down, maybe you bought a few months ago and until recently, you were up big. I hope you aren't selling. I'm not rich, but I had a condo and sold it. You know what I bought? Bitcoin. And guess what-I'm not selling because this is just getting started. Most people want to keep you down, to not reach your full potential. To be part of the system, but need the system. Ask yourself: what are the rich doing? I'll tell you what they are doing-they are buying bitcoin, gold, and luxury real estate. The system has taken it's logical course and it's worked for a while-about 70 years. Can we break covid and go back to "normal". Sure. Debt will be 30 Trillion. By 2025 50 Trillion and debt to GDP at 200%. And by 2030, the game has fundamentally changed. There's a huge demand for all the cash in the world, and it looks like bitcoin is going to be one of the exits. Most

Since Bitcoin was 1¢ in 2010, it has gone up by a factor of 10 over 6 times. The next 10x gets us knocking on the door of gold's current market cap. Bitcoin is not "risky" or "early" or "unproven". It is an unstoppable freight train that will eat all imperfect stores of value, far beyond gold.

Michael Saylor - How to never pay Capital Gains Tax

His latest interview articulates this strategy the clearest way I’ve heard him refer to it.. https://youtu.be/BoVlCnZe5vQ?t=3378 He makes a compelling case to never sell, his logic about Debt / Equity ratio is sound.. What I still can’t wrap my head around, is the argument goes.. “you need money to live”, don’t sell your BTC as you’ll incur capital gains tax. So say you take out $200K on the $1M asset.. a. What happens if the asset goes down in value? b. How do you pay back the $200k without selling something? I get that as the value of your asset goes up, the percentage you owe back in relative terms shrinks.. But whoever loaned you that money is still gonna want it back.. how do you pay it back? I’m guessing the answer is your asset has gone up so high that you do eventually have to sell, but you’ve benefitted from holding the asset for much longer therefore when the loan is called eventually you sell a much lower percentage of your asset.. Why aren't you running a node ?

Serious question, why ? We're all familiar with Not your keys, not your coins , but many seem to forget Not your node, not your rules . The nodes are what keep the rules and miners in check. If you're using someone else's node to validate blocks with your transactions, you're basically trusting the rules that that node chooses to enforce. In addition to that, running your own node increases your transaction privacy. You're not letting third parties know which transactions you're interested, i.e. every time you lookup your transaction on Blockcypher, Blockstream etc., you're linking your IP or PC-fingerprint to a specific transaction in their logs. I do realize that some people won't be able to afford the hardware, though it is getting cheaper to get, and others have connectivity issues. This isn't directed at those people, but at those who have the ability to do so. It's becoming increasingly easy to run your own node, there are some good pr

Family member's landlord wanted hiked rent to double what she was paying. He did that in the middle of a pandemic; her savings were depleted, and was facing exorbitant prices to move into a new place. PANIC. BTC was made for this, I thought, so I offered to help with the cost of moving. When she said yes, I suggested using BTC. Helped her open an account with a local exchange. It took a total of 30 minutes until all transactions were completed. By the next morning, she had the $ in her bank account, in the local currency. It was Saturday. The cost for all this, $2,30 USD. I knew this was possible, but I couldn't believe it. She had never heard of BTC, and she couldn't believe it. Now we both know, that if she ever needs financial help, it is literally 24 hours away, at almost no cost. Consider the alternatives: A wire transfer costs $25 USD. Would take days/weeks. Buying Bitcoin with Cash App - Purchase Fees & Tier Structure Explained

Thought this might be useful information to the community. I’ve personally been using Cash App for almost a year and have had a truly positive experience. Below you can find their Fee Structure for both Purchasing and Selling Bitcoin using the Cash App “App”. Surprisingly, Cash App has become extremely competitive offering some of the lowest fees available to purchase Bitcoin, especially on higher purchase amounts. It currently comes in less expensive than Coinbase, and while services like RobinHood offer 0% fees; Cash App unlike RobinHood, allows you to withdraw and deposit Bitcoin in and out of the App. The Cash App “Fee Structure” for the Purchase and Selling of Bitcoin is tiered based on the amount of the purchase. Larger purchases and sales incur lower fees. One FANTASTIC feature about Cash App is they do NOT charge fees when withdrawing Bitcoin from your Cash App wallet to another wallet address. So all you pay is the purchase fee. This alone is a huge plus in my book. If y

I’m currently thinking around $160,000 BTC. I’ll post again in a couple of months time. Keep stacking brothers! Edit: to be clear $99k drop was on my total stack. I used $90k of the loan to buy 3.547 BTC (kept $10k as cash reserve) which is currently valued at $115,600. So I am up $25,600. I just finished "The Bitcoin Standard" Audiobook. Everything Hal Finney said is coming true...

We begin to see the narrative of "Digital Gold" becoming true right now. However, I strongly feel as though we are only beginning to get in to the "banks holding bitcoin" stage of things. He had even predicted that banks would be creating their own stablecoins or "self-minted" sort of stablecoins. EDIT: I worked for one such exchange that made their own stablecoin for the USD determined in satoshis before. Submitted January 23, 2021 at 12:50PM by sgtslaughterTV https://ift.tt/3ohiHP2

So, as the title suggests. I Fucked up big time. I've been in crypto since 2017, been putting all my extra cash into the markets since then. Been active in communites and definitely confident about the future of crypto. Ill skip to my fuckup. I had recently decided to trade using leverage, started small and "did my research". Today, I saw an opportunity with bitcoins sideways pullback and supports, and I was confident. Too confident. i bought in at 20x leverage, things were going well, i bought a bit above the bottom, and then bought in again nearly perfectly getting the reversal. Here is my series of mistakes that turned into a big fuckup: Normally ill judge the bounce and buy in again on the ride up if im confident, small fluctuations in price wont get me liquidated, wait, not get too greedy and close. I decided to use 125x leverage on my last buy. Dumb i know. but still, it was my smallest buy and i was confident in the returns, if theres a fluctuation i'd j

Bitcoin is not threatening banks, Bitcoin threatens Central banks.

I know that banks have a bad reputation, but they are in charge of a crucial economic task in a healthy capitalist system: they connect lenders and borrowers; they canalize resources (savings) from people that don't have ideas, to people that have ideas but need resources to implement them. They move the capital trhoughout the economy from those who create it to those who put it to produce wealth. The success of Bitcoin goes through banks integrating with bitcoin, custodying bitcoins from investors, transferring value using bitcoin's network (instead of shitty SWIFT channels), embracing bitcoin in a regulated, secure, mature finantial network that everyone already trusts. We don't want to substitute banks by unsafe, unprotected, phone applications that can bankrupt tomorrow like Celsius, Ledn, etc. And no, not everyone wants to be his own bank: some people wants to pay someone else to do that job. And yes, DeFi is promising, but it is just that, a promise. Bitcoin is a

This Time its different /s

I see more and more posts about how this bull run is completely different compared to the previous ones. I heard „this time its different“ in 2013 and 2017. people where so euphoric seeing bitcoin go up and up that they thought they are the next warren buffet cause the price will go up and never go down. Then the drop happens and you can see posts saying bitcoin is their worst investment ever, how they lost all their money and crypto going to zero. This is when we enter the bear cycle. And this bull run is no different. We will hit a peak 100k? 150k? 200k? No one knows but it won’t go up forever we WILL have another bear cycle and then the next bull cycle after the halving 2024. Now I’m hearing a lot „but what about the institutional investors. They will change everything!!!“. Yes it’s big that let’s say grayscale buys huge amounts of bitcoin but institutional investors are holding longterm! They know the price will be in the millions in 10 years, they don’t care when the Price Hits

I wanted a basic web-based bitcoind status page for my node at home, but didn't want to install something as heavy as mempool . I found this , but it hasn't been updated in years. I made my own status page ( screenshot here ) using Python and Flask. This is my first Flask app, so it's definitely NOT production ready, but I'll take any feedback anyone can give! "Bitcoins are essentially computer files that are stored in a "digital wallet" on your device" - We're still so early...

Saw this in an article on CNN, written on Jan 15 2021. Bitcoin is so much more than many people know. Submitted January 18, 2021 at 07:12PM by plumberoncrack https://ift.tt/38Ve3BS

Lamborghini U.S. Dealer Says They Now Accept Cryptocurrencies As Payment

What’s that saying, “there’s no such thing as a coincidence?” Well, here’s Lamborghini of Newport Beach stating that they now accept cryptocurrencies as payment, during the most massive bull run in Bitcoin history no less. Although, you will have to call them and see which coins are accepted and which are not – Bitcoin is a given, and probably a few other strong ones as far as market cap. This isn’t the first time somebody would have or could have bought vehicles using cryptocurrency. In fact, it’s not even the first time for this particular dealer. Back in 2013, somebody paid in Bitcoin for a Tesla Model S, acquired from Lamborghini Newport Beach. https://www.carscoops.com/2021/01/lamborghini-u-s-dealer-says-they-now-accept-cryptocurrencies-as-payment/ Submitted January 18, 2021 at 07:02PM by BitcoinWide https://ift.tt/3oUxlgc

I just set my best friend up with a software wallet and bought him $50 in BTC so I have an excuse to bond with somebody over my quite possibly unhealthy crypto obsession.

I get the feeling when I try explaining Bitcoin, cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to people, they nod and smile and say "thats cool!" but people dont really get it. I feel that its one of those things that you have to experience for yourself to really understand it. So rather than ceaselessly rave about my new obsession all the time (as I have been doing to everyone lately), I decided to just buy one of my good friends $50 BTC and told him to sit on it and watch the balance slowly increase over the next few months. No better way to catalyze someone giving crypto a little more critical thought than by forcing Bitcoin upon them in the most literal way possible. I at the very least wanted to get him set up with a starting balance to keep in a cold wallet that would basically be his own swiss bank account that essentially accrues ~300% interest every year. I then told him if he digs it, he could use it as a savings account if he wanted to keep throwing money at it o

The first mention of Bitcoin on a mainstream TV show happened 9 years ago this month.

It came just three years after bitcoin's creation and aired when the price of one Bitcoin would set you back around $6.90 (the price was already double what they recorded it as). The TV show that mentioned bitcoin was The Good Wife , and the episode was called ' Bitcoin for Dummies ' (yes, the entire episode was dedicated to Bitcoin). In the episode, Alicia (the protagonist) takes on the case of Dylan Stack (played by Jason Biggs), a lawyer who has refused to reveal the identity of his client who is wanted by the U.S. Treasury Department for creating a new digital currency called Bitcoin. The episode features a surprisingly good explainer on what Bitcoin is, and how it works. You can watch it here . I wonder how many people this episode sent down the rabbit hole, leading them to the greatest investment (or regret) of their lives. If bitcoin ever hits $2 million, the richest bitcoin wallet owners would start entering the Forbes Richest 100 list.

There are over 100 wallets with over 10,000 BTC ( source ). If the bitcoin price were to reach $2 million, each of those wallets would hold over $20 billion worth of bitcoin. According to the Forbes Richest 100 list, the 100th richest person in the list is worth $18.6 billion ( source ). Assuming some of those top 100 wallets belong to individuals who still have access to their coins, if bitcoin were to hit a price of $2 million, those individuals would be rich enough to be on the Forbes 100 list, just from their bitcoin holdings alone. Just a thought I had, thought I'd share. Submitted January 18, 2021 at 04:22AM by haddock420 https://ift.tt/3ir6HsH

PSA: bitcoin.org is untrustworthy and newbies should not be directed there

Yesterday I learned that since July bitcoin dot org has linked, on its front page, to a scammy site "MoonPay", which among other things advertises that it supports over 80 shitcoins advertises that it is supported by the scam site bitcoin dot com has exhorbitant fees uses "crypto" as short for "cryptocurrency" edit appear to be the same entity as the bitcoin dot com exchange (search "bitcoincom" on that certificate listing) It used to be that you could point newbies to this site, being assured that it would provide a neutral source of information about the Bitcoin network, free from exchanges and their broken incentives . If it were to link to some exchange this exchange would need to meet an extremely high bar of trustworthiness, privacy preservation, and support for safe and sane Bitcoin usage. This site fails to meet even an extremely low bar, and I think it's reasonable to conclude that Cobra, the site's anonymous owner,
