Is there a scenario where bitcoin remains niche for a very long time?

I have a lot conviction on bitcoin and never sold any bitcoin. I continue to buy whenever I have extra funds. However, I've been having doubts about the conviction. I am wondering if bitcoin is truly broadly adoptable. Most of the people are aware of bitcoin but people who understand and self custody are very very very few. Maybe the adoption will take several hundred years? maybe it will remain a niche in our life time and it is risky to put high percentage of net worth in it. What do you guys think? Retire Bitcoin

How do you envision retirement with Bitcoin? I often see posts about when to retire and how much is needed for retirement etc. But now the question is, how do you handle that? Do you sell all Bitcoin and put it in an ETF? Do you sell per year, even in a bear market? I'm curious how you guys envision that. I feel like I’m crazy…

I feel like I’m in the 1700s, with my friends and family all outside on horseback and we all literally watched a person drive up to us in a car, explain how the car was built and then how it functions, drive away, and then every single person telling me that a car will never work out and horses are better at basically everything. It’s not going to matter what their opinion is and it’s not going to matter how great their current horses are. Those horses are going to be replaced. It is inevitable. It is unstoppable. It does not care what you think. Why doesn’t everyone just get it? Submitted August 29, 2023 at 06:53AM by SpaceToadD https://ift.tt/5MaZ9mi

Bitcoin Coding Jobs Advice

Anyone that has a coding job in the bitcoin space… I was wondering if you could give some advice to someone looking for a career change. I don’t know how AI will change the field im in. I may be wrong but it’s not looking super great. I have some time and resources to go ham on learning c++, python, whatever else is necessary. Also if there’s anything more worthwhile in life and close to a dream for me, it would be working in the bitcoin space. For someone starting to learn from scratch, who can devote 12 plus hours a day to learning, 6 days a week, for maybe 1 year, would this be enough time to get a coding job? Is there a strong demand? Is the market saturated with recent boot camp grads? What is the pay like? Any advice would be awesome. Thank you. Submitted August 26, 2023 at 10:10PM by Leading-Physical https://ift.tt/akJuVqL

Buying BTC on Cash App

Want to share my experience with Cash App in case it helps anyone. I was using Strike to DCA, but it has recently turned into a cluster f*ck. First, Direct Deposit stopped working, then debit cards, then linked bank accounts. I tried sticking it through with them bc I think what they're doing is awesome, but I decided to finally jump ship. Anyway, back to Cash App. Keep in mind, KYC was not really a concern. I gave up on that long ago. Also worth noting that I'm a HODL'er so trading features wasn't really a concern either. The setup was rather simple: Sign up Link debit card Had to provide my Address during this step Buy Bitcoin Withdraw Bitcoin Had to provide State ID and Face Photo during this step... I know, I know but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Also had to answer some basic questions about where I work and what I do. The verification process took no more than a minute or two Done Here's the breakdown on my first purchase I did from the trial run in USD: Purcha

A captain from Brussels took his passion for sailing and Bitcoin and set sail on his Sato Boat painted with a giant orange “B” !

Rémi discovered Bitcoin in early 2021 and has been on a mission to combine this with his longtime love of sailing. According to his own estimates, thousands of people have been exposed to the giant “B” sailing across the seas. https://preview.redd.it/czsfqv7j3akb1.jpg?width=1642&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8878a8c22c7769255a3ba5d574ab1a8af5ac3499 Rémi remarked that, in his opinion, the best way to bring new people into the Bitcoin space is through art — even art that is flying from the mast of a ship. He also pointed out that this experience has helped him draw parallels between the ethos of Bitcoin and that of sailing. https://preview.redd.it/2uvbwj2m3akb1.jpg?width=1156&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=38bf0bd23ad3a27714b5456e098e99cbe9a5e16f B-adorned sail helps him promote Bitcoin adoption in boat races, on beaches and across the Atlantic Ocean, where he has sailed for the past 18 months. Reasons for selling

I've been accumulating and HODL'ing for several years now. I've acquired several bitcoin and had no intention of selling. I never sold anything, not even one satoshi. But... my wife and I have been considering selling our current (first, small'ish, renovated) house and upgrade to a newly constructed house that ticks all our boxes. We now have the opportunity to do just that but it would require me to sell as 80% of our net worth is in BTC. Rationally I know I should just wait 2 years but... I'm living NOW. I'm 45, working my ass off and we deserve it. I would say real estate is a good longterm investment as well. Diamond hands or no? We are the early adopters

We are making history here people. Bitcoin is a return to hard money. Our world desperately needs hard money. We need a bitcoin standard to return to the prosperity that was had in the 19-early 20th century. Objectively speaking Bitcoin is superior to gold as a commodity. It is THE commodity that will absorb savings over time. As Bitcoin is superior to gold, it is only natural for it to absorb gold’s market cap over time. Even if that takes 10 years from now, that is still more than a 10x from today. Be proud of yourselves for being so financially educated! Let’s take back control of our own money! How long did it take you to go from worrying about how much Fiat your Bitcoin was worth to only worrying about how much Bitcoin you have?

When I first bought Bitcoin I was in it for a fiat gain and constantly checked my balance to see how much fiat I had gained/lost. However after a ton of research and learning about Bitcoin I am completely orange pilled and could not care less about how much Fiat my Bitcoin is worth, I only care about how much Bitcoin I own (.1 btc, .25 btc, .5btc, etc) When you first got into Bitcoin did you only do it for fiat gain and if so how long was it until you switched to only caring about how much Bitcoin you own? I actually work in finance but I’ve recently decided to write online to discuss financial markets and the global economy from an Islamic perspective (given that interest rates are not permissible). As a Muslim and as someone who has a very good understanding of macroeconomics, financial markets and Bitcoin, it’s safe to say that Bitcoin is actually more halal than any of the fiat currencies we use. Given I’m trying to move away from making money that involves interest rates (given our fund’s strategy), I’m fascinated by the solutions Bitcoin can create. Can anyone point me to the best builders, tools, applications, softwares that are being built involving Bitcoin? Hacked on Binance.US for $20,000 - bitcoin all gone - UPDATE

Hi guys, Thank you for all your help on my last post! I contacted law enforcement and they were able to subpoena information from Binance.US. For those who have not read the last post, please check my post history. https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/15oo97e/hacked_for_20000_on_binance_bitcoin_all_gone/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1 Binance.US provided a TON of information, including the API keys I created and all were read only permissions except one. One apparently had trading only permissions which does not make sense. 1) I do not ever remember making an API key with trading permissions and 2) the API key was unused for more than 90 days (I have evidence of this.) According to Binance.US, they turn off trading permissions on API keys if they have not been used in 90 days. Even though I have all the information, I can’t see which API key was actually used for the trading. Is this what I should ask for next? A

After almost 3 years of work, our small startup launched Chaindeck today! Introducing a new way to store and encrypt seed phrases using a unique deck of cards, completely offline and analog.

Hello r/Bitcoin ! About 9 months I made a post about a survey here, and got incredibly useful feedback from helpful redditors. I thought we were really close to launch, but it turned out were still many months away. I am so excited that the time has finally come to make this announcement post. Thank you for everyone who participated in that survey! We are Chaindeck, a small startup founded in 2021 with the goal to improve seed-phrase storage security. Just like Bitcoin, we wanted a product that would be accessible to all. Also, we wanted no electronics, no software, nothing hackable… It had to be relatively simple for the owner to set up but require significant time and effort for others to access the information. We are proud to launch our product today that strikes a balance between security and convenience: a meticulously crafted deck of cards that hides your seed phrase in plain sight. Chaindeck is a deck of 100 square cards that have been carefully designed so that any 3

Was there ever a better time to accumulate more BTC?

I just can't wrap my head around the fact that we currently live in a time where we KNOW the big players (Blackrock, Vanguard, etc) WANT to enter the game, but can't right now, giving us time to buy more BTC. Also the next halving is right around the corner yet the price is super low, despite all the bullish news. Seriously, was there ever a better time to buy BTC? Sure, you could always argue the best time was when BTC was still only worth a few cents, but the project could've very easily have failed that that point. I genuinely believe the next few months are among the best for every dedicated sat stacker. Submitted August 21, 2023 at 12:23AM by JohnCena_770 https://ift.tt/Gwjc0A6

My Bitcoin was Taken

I have a hardware wallet with iCoin Technology. The Bought from the website, everything was sealed. The device itself cannot connect to the Internet but you use the app on your phone to check balances and create QR codes for public addresses. When I first opened the device I printed seed phrase and put it somewhere in the house that's not visible and told no one. No one has broken in, only family has been over a few times but again no one knows where the phrase is. I've had the wallet for almost a year. Never had a problem with it. Today I was checking my address to send more to the wallet and it showed zero. When I checked the transaction history it showed everything was taken two days ago on the 16th. How can this happen if someone doesn't have the seed phrase? Submitted August 19, 2023 at 03:34AM by Afro_Senpai_AI https://ift.tt/p5SAvGw

How far are we away from bitcoin backed mortgages becoming popular?

As bitcoin increases in price and reduces in volatility, I imagine we start to see more mortgage companies accepting BTC backed mortgages as BTC holders will not want to sell and incur capital gains taxes. Curious if anyone has done this so far and how much farther we have to go before it’s a more popular approach to buying a house. How much would it cost a government to have a big impact on Bitcoin

As talked about in this debate at 16:15: https://youtu.be/zA5jnK4v884 Mike green argues that it would cost only 7 billion dollars to “shut down” the bitcoin network by mining empty blocks, to which Pomp didn’t really have a rebuttal. Let’s say if the US has a lot of bitcoin and China does not, China would then be incentivised to try to break the bitcoin network and tank it’s price. Cash out 401k and buy bitcoin?

Hi folks. I'd like to get the opinions of the experts in here. I'm considering cashing out my 401k, taking the penalty, converting what remains into bitcoin and moving to cold storage. I don't know enough about Bitcoin IRA's, but if I can't self custody my private key, I don't think I'm interested. Not my keys, not my coins. I simply do not trust this financial system in any way, shape, or form to look after my long term well being. I want to be my own bank and my own custodian. What's your opinions, good people? Thanks! Edit: currently looking into unchained for self custody BTC IRA solutions. Submitted August 16, 2023 at 07:31AM by RedDelPaPa https://ift.tt/AVDOEm5

Forget The Price & Fight For The Future

The frame through which I view things effectively eliminates "price anxiety". It's based on the belief that I am casting my vote for a future I wholeheartedly believe in, and I'm prepared to defend that vision. A future without Bitcoin is not one I'd want to be part of, so if necessary, I'd gladly stand by it to the very end. I realize this might sound dramatic, but I liken Bitcoin to a digital version of the American Revolution. Just as the colonies grew weary of oppressive taxation and chose to revolt, citizens today are tired of their currency being devalued and are turning to Bitcoin as a way out. I am genuinely investing in something I believe in, so the price is of little consequence to me. Submitted August 13, 2023 at 10:13PM by NaiveEstablishment19 https://ift.tt/QSgs2re

Hacked for $20,000 on Binance - Bitcoin all gone

I was hacked for $20,000 on Binance on Sunday. All my Bitcoin… gone! I was left with $4,900. The hacker accessed my account, apparently using a ‘leaked API’ and made hundreds of trades. Sold low and bought high shitcoins. I only ever made 3 API keys. One with Cointracker, one with TaxBit, and one with Zenledger. All three API keys are set to READ ONLY. I made sure when I created these API’s that they were READ ONLY. When Binance gave me back access to my account it was READ ONLY permissions. The API keys did not have trading permissions. Binance have took 0 responsibility and have just said it was due to an API leak. Even if the API’s were leaked, they did not have any trading permissions so I am confused as to how they were able to trade. This is a warning to all of you to remove any API keys even if they are read only to prevent your Bitcoin from being stolen from your exchange. Does anyone have any idea as to how this occurred with READ ONLY api’s? I believe this was Binance’s

Bitcoin doesn’t need to replace banks, it just needs to be a payment option.

I recently tried buying an ancient coin from Germany for $300. That was on Monday. As soon as I made the purchase, my bank called me for fraud protection. I confirmed that this is an actual purchase by me. Today is Thursday and I just found out that they canceled my purchase completely and never allowed it to go through. I gave them a call and they told me that I need to try purchasing it again … Three days later I’m emailing the company to send me a link to repurchase the coin that I ordered in the first place. I’m still waiting… If the company just accepted Bitcoin everything would had been fine and completed within minute, I wouldn’t have to keep dealing with this shit three days later. But here I am. I get fraud protection is a good thing but this is ridiculous and it’s a nuisance. It slows things down within the economy immensely. Again, I don’t need Bitcoin to replace banks, I just need it to be a payment option. I’m smart enough to use Bitcoin, I’m smart enough to send it

How often do you ask a business if they take Bitcoin? And what is there response?

So I just finished a summer long road trip with the family, driving up and down the US (CA, AZ, NV, ID, CO). Any time we stopped at a business (non franchise/corporate), more specifically small businesses, I would ask if they take Bitcoin. While there were a handful of businesses that said they do, I found the majority of time the response was "Not yet!" or "I want to". Continuing the conversation and asking variation of "when" or "why not" , the answer 80% of the time was related to their POS system. "When my POS can do it." Was the most common answer. There was also the handful of businesses that gave the "Absolutely Not!" Additionally, I noticed of those that did take Bitcoin, or showed interest, were mostly under 50 years old, and those gave a hard no skewed to be over 50. This is all purely observational. I was curious how many others do the same thing and what the usual response is, or additional observations you ha

What would nearly free energy do to the price of bitcoin?

I’ve heard the Michael Saylor’s of the world compare bitcoin to energy and that it can be thought of as stored energy in a financial sense. Let’s say energy becomes close to free and mining can more efficiently scale operations, does that increase the value of bitcoin OR does it drop it to near zero, as it is near free ‘stored energy’? Bitcoin is frustratingly calm and volatility is near historic lows!

Such flat behavior in ‘Bitcoin Annualized Value’ was last seen over three years ago in the months after the March 2020 COVID-19 cross-market crash! UK wants to regulate all cryptos including Bitcoin as gambling, wouldn’t it be fair if it was taxed as gambling too?

So UK FCA and Treasury Committee wants all cryptocurrency including Bitcoin to be regulated as gambling. I personally don’t really have a problem with this as cryptocurrencies, even Bitcoin, have high risks. My question is then this: if cryptocurrency is regulated as gambling, then surely it should be taxed as gambling too? Winnings from gambling is not subject to taxation at all here in the UK. So I believe by regulating crypto as gambling, the government would have to tax it as such too and that could actually bring a lot of Bitcoin trading into the UK and would actually benefit the UK crypto industry as a whole. What does everyone here think? Edit: I have been informed that the Treasury has rejected the proposal to regulate cryptocurrencies as gambling since it would potentially create overlapping in jurisdictions between the FCA and Gambling Commission and also create discrepancy in regulations with international crypto regulation eg EU MiCA. Still, it was interesting to think

Balancing BTC and Relationships: Seeking Your Perspective!

I'm in my late 20s, and I've been considering starting a family with the woman I love. Currently, my savings are all in BTC, and I'm determined to hold onto it no matter what, as I believe in its long-term potential. While I want to marry her, I'm facing a dilemma as she seems to have a different approach to money. I've had experiences in the past where I let my emotions drive financial decisions in relationships, and it ended up costing me both financially and emotionally. So, this time, I want to prioritize financial security and logic without compromising on love. However, I find it challenging to discuss my views on BTC with her without sounding stingy or overly cautious. I fear that explaining my perspective might push her away. I've tried before, but it seemed like she didn't quite grasp the significance of investing in BTC. I understand relationships can be emotional and complex, but I believe that as a man looking to build a family, I need to ens

Regret of not Accepting 150 worth of Bitcoin in 2010

Back in 2010 i was freelancing and helped some guy with his assignment and he opted to pay me 150 Bitcoin instead of actually money. I insisted he should pay me money for the work through my bank which was roughly $380 for what i had done. Kind sir If you are reading this i have since grown and changed my ways and I'm now a believer, I will even accept 1 Btc for more work and extras. Damn, i missed an opportunity to become Rich due to Ignorance, smh. Submitted August 06, 2023 at 02:41AM by KidNextDoorNumber1 https://ift.tt/lURCTPj

Are there any other former-silverbug-now-Bitcoin-maxis, like me? Just trying to find a kindred spirit in the pain that physical PMs have caused while the hope that Bitcoin continues to provide.

For the loooooongest time I was literally banging my head against the wall, just not understanding why the price of silver (and of the other precious metals), would NEVER go anywhere. (Bought my first silver bar at like $30 in 2011, it's like $24 today) And then after learning about Bitcoin a couple years ago, little by little, gradually, gradually...I began to see why. And while it didn't relieve the pain of having made the wrong major financial investment decision, it did at least broaden my perspective on the world, it forced me to study history, and it enlightened me about human nature. I realized: - It's not that silver and gold are bad investments per se, but they're really no different than any other commodity, in the sense that they won't be money again. You may as well stack copper bars or tungsten or something. Just, commodities that are mined out of the ground, have been available since forever, will remain so. - The people saying "we will go back

After searching on google I was reading some posts on here and realized ive messed up. I just used blockchain.com because they looked reputable on the app store and now here I am with a pending bitcoin withdraw stuck in review for a few days now. After reading the horror stories I don't know if i ever expect to touch that bitcoin again. I fucked up. Submitted August 04, 2023 at 01:45AM by brute505 https://ift.tt/gFP6vjH

Bitcoin is Truly Different

I came across a post from r/wallstreetbets on the front page showing a bunch of posters there YOLOing their life savings into options. I imagine that these guys are hoping for a 10x return on their gamble. And for a moment, the thought seemed tempting. It would be nice to get a 10x return on life savings. I then imagined how I would feel if Bitcoin 10x’d, and the feeling was not the same. Why? Well because knowing that even at 10x, Bitcoin would still be at a serious discount from its long term cost to buy, I would not want to sell. So despite having the same “gains,” I don’t imagine having the same kind of high feeling as with a 10x options trade. Now I suppose they aren’t exactly comparable, but it occurred to me that Bitcoin gives me a low time preference without me even having to try. I believe that alone is an incredibly powerful tool for anyone who can finally see what Bitcoin actually is. Submitted August 04, 2023 at 05:45AM by DayStroller79 https://ift.tt/LT3cEIC

500,000 sats

I keep my coins on multiple different wallets for diversification and security. One of my wallets is on an old laptop and the battery has recently given up. I'm struggling to get another battery and it's the only wallet I don't have the seed phrase for. Its got atleast 500,000 sats on it - anyone want to help me recover them? I'm happy for people to give me hell for this too by the way. Although my other wallets have more on them and are very much backed up. If they're lost.. you're welcome. Profitability of validation after all BTC is mined?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but I wanna know the answer. Obviously the low transaction cost is only one of a number of key factors pushing people to BTC/crypto, but I don’t see how it’s sustainable. The way I understand it now, is that miners are given rewards for validating transactions. Similar to how Mastercard and visa collect a percentage of the transaction cost for validation/execution of the transaction. But what happens once all the BTC is mined and the profitability of the mining industry plummets? From there I can only see two things happening. Miners/validators simply become the new visa/Mastercards of the world collecting ever increasing fees to maintain the network, or there is a massive fall off in the power of the proof-of-work network as miners take there operations offline since they can’t earn anything from being miners anymore? What does the community think will happen once the final coin in mined? I apologize for my Ignorance on the subject in advance maybe t
