Are we just lucky?

I was wondering what percentage of the developed world has an eye on Bitcoin and what's going on in the world (apart from what the mainstream media pushes). I personally know maybe 2 or 3 friends who are interested in Bitcoin and the rest are totally blind and deaf to even friendly discussion about it. We live in the same society, same world, right? How can some of us see the importance and life-changing potential of this technology while the majority don't even want to hear about it? Are we just lucky? With a relatively small investment (0.1-0.2 BTC) you can potentially create luxury in 10-15 years. How do you ignore this? Can't wrap my head around this. Bitcoin is STILL relatively easily accessible at 35k, in my opinion. It should be a lot more by now. Submitted October 29, 2023 at 06:33PM by marosszeki https://ift.tt/SeK0FH5

How do people still not believe in bitcoin?!

I don't know if I am having a rant or if it's a question with a genuine answer. I just don't understand how people still do not believe in bitcoins technology and potential capability to transform not only our monetary system but our daily lives. I do not class myself as being a super smart or an intelligent person, I have an interest in technology and studied economics in school, and I can see clear as day how beneficial the bitcoin network is. Most of the time when I mention bitcoin to friends, family etc they see it as kind of a joke. I assume they see it as a pump and dump scheme due to the price fluctuation and media scrutiny. I'm starting to question my views on bitcoin, maybe i'm wrong. People generally don't like change and the desire to learn something new, could this be it? is bitcoin just a niche for tech minded people? Do people in this sub know about nostr?

Like the title says. Just curious if you know that nostr exists. In case you don’t know, nostr is very similar to Bitcoin as in it’s not a company, but a protocol for communication. I jokingly call it a Pleb-to-Pleb communication network. While on the surface, it now looks like any social media platform, its inside mechanics are much more interesting. What makes nostr a Bitcoiners heaven, is the fact that the lightning network is baked in the design. You can tip (they are called Zaps) people directly for the value they bring, of course you will be Zapped for sharing good content as well. It’s really fun. It’s no place to farm Sats, as you will probably be spending everything you get tipped on other people 😅 but that’s the fun part really. I sometimes think of it as the Bitcoiners Contact list. Almost everyone there has a Lightning address willing to receive Bitcoin. Any way check it out. This site gives you a glimpse of the users, how many Sats they sent/received and their gen

Does anyone else feel like that?

For me, Bitcoin stopped being an "investment" an became a moral obligation. We all know money is time. You sacrifice some of your limited time on earth to work and make money you need to live. So when the government starts printing more money, they aren't simply stealing your wealth, no, much worse, they're stealing your time. Time you could have spent with your family, friends, pets or whoever is close to you. So with that in mind, I kinda feel like I owe it to everyone I love to make sure no one can steal my time. Because if I don't do that, that means I don't respect my time and therefore don't respect the time I could've spent with them. Bitcoin is arguably the only asset that can be compared to time in regards to scarcity. So, I owe it to my future wife and kids, my animals, my friends, my siblings and parents and of course myself to stack as many sats as I possibly can. Money obviously isn't everything. But time is. I think it's har

Today is day 365 of my $5/day experiment

Hi everyone, I see posts all the time of people saying ‘Is it worth buying BTC if I can only spent X amount a day/week/month. I decided to put it to the test and set up automatic purchases through Strike app of $5/day. I tracked it all separately from my original portfolio. My goal is to make it to 1000 days. Here is my current data for 365 days! Day 365 Total Stack: 0.07569918 Average Price: $24,108.58 Current Price: $34,158.20 Total Spent: $1,825.00 Current Value: $2,585.75 Net Change: +41.68% Highest Purchase Price to Date: $34,999.30 Lowest Purchase Price to Date: $16,115.52 All of my purchases include the 0.5-1.0% spread that I have to pay. I have turned what is most people’s daily Starbucks into a small portfolio of 7.5 million sats or ~$2,500 at current value. So to answer everyone’s question. YES. It is absolutely worth it to buy Bitcoin even if you can only contribute minute amounts. Submitted October 28, 2023 at 09:39PM by Gorillahair2000 https://ift.tt/Ujydgl

If you have been through 2022 and are still here reading this post, you are the top 0.1%.

There are 7 billion people in this world and most (if not all) of them are CLUELESS about money. Their knowledge about money is limited to: (1) their monthly pay cheque (2) their shopping and gas (3) their savings in dollar terms Those who know how to navigate the mortgage market is already considered “top notch”, yet many of them still have little idea about the whole fundamental concept of money. So congraz, you ARE the winner in this game, it is not apparent but the truth is you are, we all are. Is this ETF too good to be true?

A few years ago Larry Fink was saying none of Black Rock clients were interested in crypto. He said this during the bear market and a great time to buy which seemed to have been a perfect opportunity to scare regular peasants and have big money investing. However, now he sounds a lot more positive and the ETF is all over the news. Could Black Rock still have some trick up their sleeve to crash the price or is it simply impossible to hide their ETF application? Bitcoin is such a large idea its hard to wrap my mind around it

Bitcoin is such a large idea its hard to wrap my mind around it. I studied cryptography in Uni & database design , and then as of lately when im stoned i've been watching tons of videos on the proof of work mechanism , SHA 256 , growth of the hash rate. I think overall I have a pretty solid grasp of what bitcoin is and where it's going. Take a objective look at this technology... The largest computer network in human history (bitcoin network) , rules based, globally accessible , verifiable , ability to send value nearly instantly across the globe through a decentralized public ledger system. ^ keep the above in mind. The average "fiat money" lasts anywhere from 20-30 years based on history, the average world reserve currency generally 100'ish years. The US is nearing this end, the only reason it hasn't happened is because in the fiat system we really don't have a viable competitor, if we did the market would instantly reflect that. Beneficiaries. I have been in this space since early 2016. One thing that has always bothered me is if something were to happen to me, my wife and son would have to manage my cold storage wallet. They have access but I would prefer to just let them get my brokerage account handed over to them. It’s easy to set up in Schwab and other brokerage accounts. Edit: some great comments about diversifying between cold storage and ETF. Definitely an option. Edit 2: The ETF’s are not approved yet but validating BlackRocks holdings will be a lot easier than say gold. They will be forced to link their cold storage wallets with Coinbase in the financial disclosures. I totally get that it’s not really the whole point of BTC. I am totally bought in but sometimes you have to do what’s right for your family and let others carry the torch. Submitted October 26, 2023 at 04:23PM by Flat_Establishment_4 https://ift.tt/BcRJDz1

You Haven't Met the Real Bitcoin Yet

From Stackhodler on Twitter/X: https://x.com/stackhodler/status/1716752338319221207?s=61&t=lLhz6aVjTMg32k45MWOhZg You haven't met the real Bitcoin yet. 93% of its supply has been issued over the past 14 years. What you think of as "Bitcoin" is what you have experienced as 93% of all Bitcoin that will ever exist was dumped onto the market. But during the next 14 years, buyers will fight over new issuance that is a mere 6% of the total supply. And after that? Less than .5% of new supply will remain. Bitcoin's true scarcity hasn't even kicked in yet. What happens early next year when it becomes the hardest money that humanity has ever known? And what about when understanding of this new monetary technology grows at the same time new issuance goes from a flood to a trickle? People are terrible at projecting into the future. Borrowing against your BTC

I'm not sure if you guys follow British Hodl on YouTube or X, but he made an excellent point recently. Blackrock is coming for our bitcoin. They will have no problem buying it from you for a million a coin. But you can't sell it. If you own a house, you don't sell it to generate liquidity, you take out a loan against it. That said, this industry is too new to securely loan BTC as we've seen with Block-Fi and Celcius. Nobody in this space is trustworthy enough; not Unchained, not Nexo, and not River. However, I believe Blackrock will incentivize us to put our BTC into the ETF. Then borrow at Fed rates. But even borrowing against BTC with its volatile nature, might cause a margin call. The only safe way is at the 200-week moving average, from a company with a LONG track record like Fidelity or Blackrock. My problem is I don't like the idea of giving my keys up or transferring my "hard" BTC to "paper BTC" I really want to hear/read some good though

Just capitulated 37% of my stack to buy my first house during a shitty real estate market

I love BTC, but I hate renting. I have been (inconsistently) DCAing BTC since April 2020. I’ll now have a mortgage payment that is 44% higher than my rental payment (which increases annually in June). I’m now wondering if I’ll ever own that many Satoshis again. Maybe not, but I’m going to try! EDIT: The way I see it, right place, “wrong” time. Waiting a while would have meant not living at that house. It’s a unique property that received 7 offers in the 48 hours it was listed. It checks all of the boxes we needed it to check, as well as some we never thought we could check. It’s on the lower end of our budget, a great starter home, and even sits on a surprisingly large lot relative to what surrounds it. I know the timing might sound absurd to people, and that’s fine. I made an informed decision. I may not ever reclaim 100% of my stack, but I genuinely think I can get close if I play my cards right. EDIT2: In 2015 I spent almost exactly the same amount of BTC on fake IDs for me

Bitcoin help me understand why the banking system is garbage

Bitcoin help me to finally see what the banks are and how they have been lying to us all this time. I always believed that holding money in the bank meant that it was mine that day all changed when I wanted to pull that money out to exchange it for Bitcoin, they stopped me.. refused me to use it for this.. My money refused to be used.. I later on came to understanding inflation and how the dollar just keeps getting weaker and weaker but yet the government just prints more money regardless of what it is doing to its people. Money in the bank is not ours.. its borrowed! Why Bitcoin? This month, two years ago, six zeroes were removed from the Venezuelan currency, the 3rd time in 15 years, at midnight 1st Oct 2021, prices and bank accounts were slashed six zeroes. 1,000,000 became 1 by law, since that day as today accumulated inflation is 800%

Hi, as you know I'm Venezuelan living here, have been posting for years! In October 2021, two years ago, six zeroes were removed from the currency by law, one USD was 5,000,000 Bs. (Bolivares). Everything was priced in millions, a big purchase at the supermarket could be 1,000,000,000 Bs. (200 USD). This was the 3rd time they did that. First they removed 3 zeroes in 2007, then 5 zeroes in 2018 and the 6 zeroes in 2021. So a current "Bolivar" would have been 100,000,000,000,000 Bs. before 2007. Since that day inflation has reached 800% and the exchange rate went from 5 Bs. per USD to 35 Bs. per USD. I did post here two years ago and posted the before and after in my bank account, Went from 70,473,434.12 Bs. to 70,47 Bs. Before After Some people have the balls of blaming the usage of crypto even living in these kind of countries. Any question let me know! Submitted October 10, 2023 at 10:13PM by WorkingLime https://ift.tt/ItQhCmU

Is there a totally bulletproof non-hackable cold wallet or do all of them have some sort of weakness?

Been on the hunt for the most ultra-mega-giga secure cold wallet but the more I read the more I noticed that none of them is actually totally safe against everything. There is always some kind of weakness that could get exploited. I myself have a ledger nano but I want to see if I've missed anything and if there is a cold wallet that is unhackable or where there is a risk of you losing your assets. People hate what they do not understand...

People hate what they do not understand! Remember this. Bitcoin time and time again has proven itself not only useful but saving to people. Take the example of countries like El Salvador, with there current currency they had it was terrible, since introducing Bitcoin they have gotten better. Bankers, investors (Stock Market) and old farts (Not all but the ones that chose to keep there minds closed) have all blocked the mind from learning about Bitcoin. If you even mention Bitcoin I guarantee you will either get laugh/mocked or get raged at, whether it be online or in person. Trust your own judgments, do your own research, be the person that takes charge of what they do, STOP FOLLOWING THE CROWD! Everything has risk in life, I could be wrong as well, Bitcoin could go to zero for all we know (I highly doubt it though ), but you know what life is about leveled risk as well, whether you get up in the morning and take a shower, you risk slipping in the shower and cracking your neck, whe

Lyn Aldens new book 'Broken Money' opened my eyes to the invention of the telegraph being a major part of monetary history.

It seems that there were four main systems of money or four main epochs of money in human history. The first was ledger transmission, where people kept a mental record of who owed what to whom, or a ledger carved into a cave wall was updated to represent who owes what to whom within a tribe, or a rai stone's ownership was transferred without it moving. This was a system of recording who owes what to whom using a record of account usually overseen by an entire tribe. This has been used since humans could communicate roughly 50,000 years ago. The second was physical transmission. By this point tribes and trade had become too vast for one record in one location, so humans adopted commodity money where the most saleable good was used as money, over time gold became the one constant everyone on earth could agree on. This has been used since roughly 5,000 years ago. The third was message transmission. The telegrapgh was invented in 1837 and allowed humanity to communicate instantly o

Be Very Wary Of Buying BTC From PayPal

Hello all, I've been a PayPal user for about 10 years, give or take. Used it over the years for buying & selling, mostly buying and, at most, 5 transactions per month. Never had any issues, not one, until about 2 weeks ago when I realized I could buy BTC at a decent rate quite easily through the platform. Over a week's time, I bought ~$500 total in BTC in 3 separate transactions. Why the separate transactions? I was getting my feet wet & making sure everything was on the up and up. So a few days ago I transfer $215 worth to an online business based in Canada that accepts BTC. Everything went through fine, no problem. So yesterday I try to buy a $25 item with PayPal, and no matter how many times I try, it won't go through. So I manually log in to PayPal, and waddya know...my account has been indefinitely suspended and all of my assets on the platform frozen. (No USD, about $250 in BTC). I've tried and tried to get some type of explanation, but to no avail. It mu

Getting harder and harder to keep 💎 hands (just a rant..)

Got pretty lucky and discovered/completely bought into btc in 2013. I invested all that I could afford to lose, which has been the reason that I've been hold for over 10 years. I'm 42 yrs old, 2 daughters, live a pretty modest life, still renting my home, zero assets other than BTC. I'd love to start enjoying life and the time with my daughters more during these best years of my life. I've pretty much accepted the fact that these coins are no longer mine but my daughters' and that they'll be able to enjoy generational wealth with them. That warms my heart and keeps me going through the dark days, knowing that my legacy will be providing for generations to come. But goddammit! I'd like to stop struggling and enjoy some things, too:)) That is all. Stay strong, everyone:) Submitted October 06, 2023 at 08:45AM by idifacs311 https://ift.tt/JqWOZKR

Absolute scarcity

I honestly sometimes believe no one in this sub truly understands absolute scarcity, including myself.. it’s something humans have never witnessed. We still havnt. The effects of absolute scarcity have not kicked in yet. When 15-30% of the world starts to regularly hodl satoshis.. we will then begin to witness the effects of absolute scarcity. There are over 55+ million millionaires on this planet today. There are only ever going to be 21 million bitcoin. That means if every millionaire wanted to buy a full bitcoin… they couldn’t. They couldn’t even get half of 1. There are over 8 billion people on this planet. There’s is estimated to be anywhere from 3-6 million Bitcoin lost.. forever. So let’s say 3 just to be modest. Satoshis wallet has 1 million btc in it. That’s one wallet…. That means 1 million less people will ever be able to own a full Bitcoin. There’s, ark, micro strategy, the pioneers, Tesla, pay pal, and many more companies that own 100k plus bitcoin… So idk the exact

US debt interest

According to the Office of Management and Budget, the net interest payments on the US national debt are estimated to total $395.5 billion this fiscal year, which is equivalent to 6.8% of all federal outlays. In the last quarter of 2022, the Treasury Department paid a record $213 billion in interest payments on the national debt, up $63 billion from the same period a year earlier. The surge is due mainly to the Federal Reserve raising interest rates by 4.25% between March and December 2022. The central bank increased the rate another quarter point in February 2023. The Peter G. Peterson Foundation, a nonpartisan organization that seeks to raise awareness of America’s long-term fiscal challenges, estimates that the higher rates could increase the net interest cost on the national debt to about $9 trillion over the next decade. That’s up from the record $8.1 trillion that the Congressional Budget Office projected in May 2022 and the $5.4 trillion it projected in July 2021. Submitte

The SWIFT system is nothing but a giant antiquated fax machine.

I recently watched a documentary called billion dollar heist about the bangladesh central bank being robbed of one billion dollars. https://youtu.be/4zv56MUXgw8?feature=shared Its an interesting account of the events of that robbery, but the funniest thing was when they showed how the SWIFT system for transferring money around the world is nothing but a giant antiquated printer that literally prints out paper messages of money transfers. The central bank system we use for transferring money around the world is nothing but a giant fax machine that sits in the office of a central bank. How is it 2023 and we live in a world where bitcoin can transfer money anywhere instantly and for free, but central banks use an antiquated fax machine to send money around the world that takes days if not weeks to arrive. I got banned from Late Stage Capitalism for mentioning Bitcoin

I've heard about people getting banned from different subreddits for even mentioning Bitcoin, but of all the subreddits to get banned from, for simply bringing up reading The Bitcoin Standard to understand why fiat has led to the disgraceful situation we're in now, I cannot even comprehend. I didn't say go out and buy Bitcoin. I didn't say Bitcoin is going to fix everything, I said read The Bitcoin Standard to understand the history of money and understand why we have such an inflationary system where the government can print its own money and why that's a problem. It's really sad that people who are struggling so much under this system are still so blinded by propaganda by mainstream media (that they often claim they know isn't true), that they won't even educate themselves on Bitcoin, a currency designed to break away from our abusive financial system. I've never been banned from a subreddit before and I think it's pretty shameful that sugg

During the next bull-run we need to tell people something besides "Have fun staying poor." It is a smug & somewhat toxic and very juvenile message that turns people off to the idea of having any conversation with people about Bitcoin.

In my particular situation, I view bitcoin as a "savings and remittance" vehicle. I've borrowed money from family members and used bitcoin to pay them back since I live in a different country from them. I've also paid people to do some tasks for me using bitcoin over the years, mostly to do with my youtube channel. That's just my take... However when you have Max Keiser standing on stage cursing the name of the world's largest EV company's CEO, tearing up dollar bills on camera and saying, "It's going to zero." it kinda gives me really thick "maniac cult vibes." The core message, "Have fun staying poor." although toxic is a "binary" 1 or 0 choice. I'd rather ask people, "Do you know what money is?" Or "Do you know what gives money its value?" Or "Is inflation really good for you?" Or even, "What our governments do with money now was tried in Rome thousands of years ago. H

Black Rocks US spot ETF will be the closest equivelant to bitcoins IPO.

I cannot say a spot ETF will be bitcoins IPO (initial public offering) moment because there are many differences between a spot ETF launch and an IPO. However, a spot ETF will be the closest equivelant to an IPO for bitcoin. This is because it will be the first time anyone with a brokerage account can buy bitcoin with one click, and the exact same thing happens with an IPO. Most of time after an IPO there is whats called a whipsaw effect where the price pops massively then dumps hard before obtaining relative stability. Then the subsequent years usually see a massive increase in valuation. That is what I expect to happen upon the launch of a spot bitcoin ETF. Add to this the effects of the halving and you have an environment where the newly issued supply of bitcoin will be cut in half right as bitcoin is having the closest thing to its IPO moment. This could create fireworks over 2024 and 2025. The spot ETF is a big deal because it is the closest equivelant to bitcoin having an IP
